1. I also have Feedback from Reverb (Feedback? Reverb? Ho ho! Musician jokes aplenty!) for both orders, saying what a jolly good boy am I for paying immediately. They also asked if I would kindly leave them feedback. Oh no ye don't - you'll get hee-haw feedback until I receive my two tuners, laddie!
2. I ordered two, at separate times. No emails from Reverb yet but I've had confirmation from PayPal that my orders were processed. I logged into my Reverb account, and, reassuringly, there are two separate transactions, both in My Orders, and both are showing as being In Transit along with a DHL tracking number for each - but, in typical DHL form (like my last bass from Thomann) these numbers appear not to be recognised by the DHL tracker. I hate DHL more than you. I hate DHL more than anything.
3. Ah, but squire, I referreth unto the attachable tuning device for the headstock of mine lute.
4. I made my purchase on the 8th and have received no such emailery as yet. Mayhap I have been hoodwinked.
5.
They sent me 5 email's, 2 of which were to say my order has been shipped.
When didst thou receiveth the aforementioned emailery?
6.
No. I suspect the whole thing is a money-laundering exercise.
Please don't say that!
7. God knows how they're making anything other than a loss at £2 with free delivery!
8.
If this is real opportunity, a band that you really want to join and you've done your research on the band and your pretty sure your a natch, then I'd say learn it. If not cancel the audition. Blue
I agree with this. There's certainly an element of "Let's see how good you really are" to this, though. I'd get the relevant songs down quick and then have a right good go at the tough one. Never shy away from a challenge, it'll make you a better player at the end up.
9. Yeah, plus it'll give us a good idea of how long delivery takes!
10. Apologies, gentlemen, I meant to let you know that I tightened the pot successfully by following your advice and now it's good as new. Funny how some things seem daunting until you try them, and then you realise that some repairs and maintenance tasks are well within your capability. Thanks for your advice, and apologies for not replying sooner. Bad form on my part. The shame
11.
I had a Gotoh bridge arrive in the post the other day. My wife is off on maternity so she answered the door. Postie said "tell your husband he owes me a pint". No extra charges at all, even though it had a customs £11 charge sticker on it. Well. When I'm off next, he'll get a big bottle of beer. Nice guy.
Interesting. I'm just about to order a Gotoh bridge. Good to know.
12. It's the pickup that's the problem. I can't decide. One demo sounds good, and the next sounds not so good. Hard to get a true read from YouTube. I like the tone from the Fender Nate Mendel Precision, Scott Devine is rocking one with flatwounds and it sounds heavenly, but it's hard to find a decent demo of the SD SPB-3 online. Also, Lollar is in the mix as a possible option. Trying to source a better quality pickup second hand, eBay isn't cutting it and I don't know where else to look other than here on Basschat. Think I will bide my time and wait until the right pickup comes up second hand.
13. Tonerider pickup - £35 Wilkinson tuners - £25 Gotoh Bridge - £27
14. Haha, nice one. I had been thinking of this:
15. So much of this project hinges on whether standard Precision replacement parts will fit a Jim Deacon P Bass. If this involves additional routing, I'd be loathe to continue. Swiss Cheese bass!
16.
For £35 you could also get a used Fender or Seymour Duncan and shift it on for the same price if you decide it's not for you. Place a wanted ad and you're bound to get one quick!
With Ki0gon's loom, I could just yank the pickup out and pop another in anytime I liked with no wiring, too - is that right?
17.
If you did one per year... In 4 years you could have a lovely set of Hipshot Ultralite tuners on it.
Yeah, one per year is right at that kind of money! Would be nice to trim some weight off this bass actually, but that's a tad steep.
18. Leaning towards the TR now, purely as it would open up m'budget.
19. I have the utmost sympathy for the OP. I buy all my strings from the States and have never once been charged at this end. And, for an employee to turn his name badge backwards - well, he knew exactly what he was doing. Probably does it every day. Go back down there, try and get a manager and see if you can describe this flange and get him dealt with.
20.
Tonerider refuse to confirm they make the pickups in CV guitars and basses... most probably due to a non-disclosure agreement with Fender but many others have confirmed that they even use the same part numbers for the units. Apparently the only difference is the Toneriders have vintage cloth cable, the CV only have plastic covered cable.
Aha! That is quite telling. £35 for that pickup is a damn bargain. They do a really nice, authentic-sounding Precision tone - some will question the balance etc but for £35 it wipes out a few competitors at double the price imo.
21. I also need to get someone in the know to look at/measure my Jim Deacon and tell me if a standard Fender Precision style bridge, pots, tuners etc will just plop straight in nicely or whether additional jiggery pokery will be required. I hopes not.
22.
For a vintage sounding Precision pickup I`d recommend the Fender Custom Shop 62, which comes as standard in US models. Within budget, just, and worth it imo.
I have Custom Shop pickups in my Jazz and I'm very impressed. The 62 was the leading candidate until I heard the Bareknuckle, but I would have absolutely no qualms about putting the CS 62 in my bass. Talk about a Rolls Royce engine in a Kia!
