  1. Bump I'm thinking about getting a bass VI, if anyone's got one going to seed and wants to talk turkey...
  2. Just ordered a set of these, extremely helpful guy is Mark. Interestingly he is selling the Sweetbass variety of precision pickups to those interested, they're just not available directly through the site. They're supposedly a more vintage voiced affair than the Saltbass. Hand made just down the road, what could be better?!
  3. Hi, does the gap mean the contents are visible or is it just the aluminium strips that don't quite meet? Cheers Dave
  4. Bought a cab from Neil, Couldn't have been a more easy and pleasant transaction, Neil was really helpful and the packaging was really really good. thanks! Dave
  5. Zombie thread alert! Just bought a new set of picato 45-100 flats and on comparing them to the supposedly identical set I bought at the end of last year already on my primary P Bass I notice that the construction of the strings seems different. It looks like they are using much finer windings and now have black silk at the top and bottom, after installing them I also realised that they have significantly less tension than the initial set I bought. Its weird because they really remind me of the status hotwires I bought for my jazz, same windings, comparable tension and black silks on the top and bottom. Not massively bothered as I still have the great first set but its kind of weird that they should change, and that they should so closely resemble the status strings. Anyone else with experience of the brand noticed a change recently?

  7. Fantastic service from ishibashi, they couldn't do enough to help and their description of the instrument was very accurate. If anything I was expecting it to be in worse nick than it was as the description mentioned scratches and marks on the body and tarnishing on the hardware but on inspection there was a tiny bit of tarnish on the pole pieces which came of with zero effort and a few really minor tiny dings on the body which are in the usual places, below the controls, by the strap button at the bottom etc. It shipped from Tokyo to Coventry in 3 days, unfortunately once in the hands of parcelforce the brakes went on and I had to wait around for their glacial customs clearance process. Still got to me in less than 4 weeks, which included a whole week twiddling thumbs waiting to hear about customs charges and then another week waiting for them to dispatch it after they failed to deliver it on the day the said they would when I paid the charges. Feckless douchebags.
  8. Oh cool, never thought of that
  9. Hi guys, just received a fender Japan pb62 from ishibashi (after a load of messing about on behalf of parcelforce), really happy with the bass, plays like a dream after a setup. Only odd thing is the configuration of the serial number, never seen a CIJ with a sans serif font and the number on top, anyone got any thoughts about this one? I've no reason to suspect it's not legit, given ishibashi's reputation and the quality of the instrument, just curious i suppose, Dave

  11. Yeah, this could help me justify buying one for my pet jazz neck... Measure away!
  12. just bought a fiesta red precision from japan and NOW THIS! if they bring out a surf green version i may jump in the river.
  13. Personally I think there's a strong correlation between wherabouts you stand on the stage, or would like to stand, and the kind of bass you want. I'm a stand next to the drummer, classic precision/jazz kind of guy as opposed to an up-front soloing kind of chap with some wacky modern alien-sh*t shaped french polishers nightmare of a thing, although i did own a lovely sounding Yamaha RBX something or other donkey's years ago that i had to let go because it looked gross. The simple truth of the matter on such a personal topic is: it's horses for courses and if we all liked the same thing the world would be a more boring place, albeit one in which properly fitting spare parts would be easier to obtain.
  14. Yeah, sadly the neck pocket is too small so the search goes on for a suitable p style body for my 80s squier jazz neck. GLWTS!
  15. No, don't take it to bits solely on my behalf, just curious if it was something you've experimented with yourself.
