1. Sorry moncky, I need the money from it unfortunately else I would definitely take you up on that offer.
2. Seymour Duncan PhatCat SHP90-1 is the bomb. My mate has one loaded in both of his Les Pauls (1 Gibson Les Paul Custom and 1 Epiphone Zakk Wylde) in the neck position. They can go from really sweet cleans all the way through to blazing solo tones and they sound exactly like normal P-90s. I'm eventually going to put one in my Explorer to pair up with the Seymour Duncan SH-4 JB as I love the combined tone of the SH-4 and the SHP90-1 but they're equally as good as a bridge position pick up. http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/specialized/specialized-instruments/sph901_phat_cat/ There's 3 videos on there, one guy has got a pair of them in a Les Paul (think it's the top video, should show a red LP?) and demos loads of tonal variation from them. I can't recommend them highly enough.
3. Thing about the Lomenzo video you've linked to there is that he's running an Aphex Exciter pedal, Aphex Compressor pedal and it's all run in to an Ashdown pre amp so it's very hard to get that sound from it. I know you'll think i'm stupid for saying this but I just got given a Boss SD-1 (yes, the guitar pedal) for christmas by a friend and it's what i've been searching for for years tonally. It adds a nice crackle to the string sound and doesn't make your bass sound fuzzy. You can pick them up for around £20 too! I've got one for my bass board and one for my guitar board. That's my recommendation any way. It's worth checking it out, especially to get that sort of tone you linked in the first video.
4. **MODS, I HAVE TRIED TO CHANGE THE LISTING PRICE TO £50 BUT IT KEEPS REVERTING BACK TO THE OLD PRICE OF £24** Hey guys Few more bits from the box of goodies. One pick guard made for a Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass in white pearloid. Has been pre drilled for a pick up cover too. Looks amazing on a black jazz bass (cough Geddy Lee cough). Looking for £12 for this with £3 postage. Next! Line 6 Pocket Pod Express. This is a wicked little tool for sitting in your room and jamming along with. You can plug your iPod or whatever MP3 device (or CD/Cassette/Vinyl if you so do wish) in to the 3.5mm input, plug your bass or guitar in to the guitar in and then choose to either plug in some headphones or run to an external amp and jam along. I've used it a few times for the chorus and flange effects on recording my bass. There's 5 gain stages all selectable, a tuner, 3 different effects (chorus, flange, tremolo), guitar/bass volume and a variable reverb selection. Also has a clip on the back of it to clip it to your built or what not. Can be powered by a 9v adapter or 6 AAA batteries. Your choice, yours for £25 plus £5 postage. Last in line, Stagg 9V pedal power adapter with a 5 point daisy chain cable. Only selling this because my friend gave my his Dunlop DC Brick so i'm using that on my pedals. Looking for £12 plus £3 postage. Paypal or bank transfer accepted. Paypal only as a gift though. Pics: Cheers!

6. Haha exactly. I was going to build a geezer butler "tribute" bass all in black and have the black sabbath fallen angel inscribed into the pickguard but I'm thinning out some of my gear and this project isn't going ahead so I thought best to sell the parts I collected
7. Hey dude, what scale are these basses? and is it chambered body or solid mahogany?
8. Vintage Modified Jazz 77 or Vintage Modified Precision. Reason I say the 77 Jazz instead of the normal one is because of the pick up spacing, i personally prefer it. Both come in at around £250 new
9. I use switchcraft jacks in all my basses. Always swap out what ever is in the bass for one and they've never failed on me.
10. Squier Vintage Modified Precision Bass V. Really good quality and worth double what the RRP tag is on them. Well worth a look
11. I just use an A/B box as my live basses are both passive Precision basses so there's no need to worry about draining the battery. I have both of them left plugged in, leave one on a stand with it's strap on and cable in then just swap it over and hit the button on the A/B box, no pops or crackles that way either. When I start using wireless again, i'll keep the A/B box with 2 cables in my set up as a back up in case of a wireless failure (i've had it happen, such a pain in the backside!) *edit* it's easy enough to build an A/B box too, I did it myself and i'll happily supply the wiring diagram i used
12. Hey folks, got a whole load of parts here from a project that isn't going ahead so it's best to ship 'em out! All parts are black unless stated! 1: Jazz Bass bridge cover (comes with screws) - £12 2: Jazz bass pick up cover (comes with screws) - £12 3: Jazz bass control plate (comes with screws) - £8 4: 4 bolt "Fender" stamped neck plate. Comes with bolts and plastic bit to go between the plate and the back of the neck pocket. Protects the paint and the plate - £10 5: Jazz or Precision bass round string tree (comes with screw) - £5 6: BBOT style Jazz or Precision bridge (comes with screws, will also fit most 5 screw mounted basses) - £7 7: Standard style thumb rest (comes with screws) - £5 i'll upload some pics later on today. Postage will cost extra but shouldn't be more than a couple of quid and if I manage to find any other parts from this project, i'll stick 'em on this thread. Edit: Picture uploaded, pickguard no longer available Thanks Steven
13. Aye it is a large inductor, sits in the centre of the board. I don't know if i did it when i accidentally dropped the pedal off my desk. I've tried heating each solder point (there's 4 legs on it) on the board and pushing it down as far as i can but it still has the same problem. Cuts in and out very intermittently.
14. Hey guys (and gals, we're all pc round 'ere) I recently bought a Jim Dunlop g**tard wah, the GCB-95, for £20 2nd hand with the intention of doing the true bypass which i've done BUT when i first used the pedal, i noticed it cut out once and instead of making a "wah wah" sound, it just changed the volume. I didn't really take much notice of it to be honest and did the true bypass mod (replaced the SPDT switch with a 3PDT switch and fitted an LED indicator) which worked an absolute treat. No longer does the pedal suck the tone. Once I had put the pedal back together, i used it a few times and it did the drop out thing again, just turned in to a volume pedal essentially so being a thug, i kicked the top of it and it worked again perfectly but a few minutes later, it happened again. I opened the pedal up and wiggled the torodial inductor in the middle which made it cut in and out. From what i've read, if they do this, it means the inductor has gone bad and it on the verge of giving up but I wanted to make sure this is right before I go spunking £15 on a Fasel one. Any help will be appreciated

17. Hey guys I've got a Maple precision bass neck that I'm going to want amber vintage tinting and lacquering but I haven't got the tools or equipment to do it with. I bought a bottle of amber vintage tint lacquer stain to go on the neck which I'd happily supply to whoever did it too. Basically, I want the finish to replicate that on the Fender Steve Harris bass which is amber vintage tinted nitrocellulose. Thanks!
18. If you're having output balancing issues, you could change to a vol/blend/tone config. Personally, that's how I'd run it. That way you can bias towards which pick up you want more from or find that sweet spot that matches the 2. As for the buzzing, sounds like a grounding issue. Check all your ground wires are connected up properly or it could be down to the jazz pick up. Being a single coil, it will buzz quite a lot which is why I'd prefer to use the STK-J2b pick up in a P/J bass as it's hum-cancelling. Again, those are just my personal preferences Sounds like a gorgeous bass though. You should post a picture up
19.
Well done... you come on here and ask a basic question and then you post that. You know exactly what you can do next time you post something.
I asked a basic question and you didn't actually reply to it, you just basically suggested the equipment I have is crap, went all elitist on the situation and said i need a different cabinet. Nope, no thanks to that. I'm quite happy with my cabinets cheers! So in future, please don't reply to my questions.
The OP asked a specific question and got a "steam rollering". I can see why the reply caused a reaction. The OP likes his sound, whether he gets "deep bass" or not so slagging off his choice of sound doesn't really fall under the heading of "good" or even "friendly alternative" advice.

To be fair, the question he was asking was about the validity of using different speakers, so the suggestion that he use a different cab altogether without any reference to the limited excursion of these speakers and the risk to them might have seemed completely off topic. The response of these cabs falls off a cliff at about 100hz so no, the won't produce any real bass but they do have a strong response in the low mids. I've used the same Marshall 4x12 for about 30 years and in that time only one speaker has gone - and that was when I lent it to a friend's rehearsal studio for six months. It sounds great for what I do, but I've learnt I don't go for a lot of bass.
Thank you, I'm glad you guys agree with me. The reply was totally off topic. I was purely asking about mixing speakers, not whether or not my cabinet is right for bass or not. Gah! But yeah, i have a 2x15 for if i ever want that real sub bass sound anyway which i barely ever do. I cut everything below 50/60hz anyway so it's not a problem for me losing a little extra. But as i said, thank you for your replies guys.
Hello, I've owned a few Marshall bass 4x12s over the years (I think the current VBC412 is the best they've ever made) and have always enjoyed the sound in rock bands.
I agree mate, the VBC412 is a structurally awesome cabinet but was just a bit on the heavy side for me. Do you know how i'd identify which cone I have on my current G12T-75s please? Also, thanks for the advise, it seems like it won't be worth putting a 30 in there. I'll just keep an eye out for an old 75 somewhere and leave the no namer in it for now. I believe the g12t-75's it's loaded with run at 97dB and have a frequency low point of 80hz running up to around 500hz so they're perfect for the range I sit my bass in as I use a lot of low mids, cut out some high mids and a fair amount of treble to get that rock/metal tone. I very rarely use a 5 string and the lowest tuning I drop to is Drop C on the odd occasion too!
You are being a little unfair on BFM and JTUK. there are all sorts of issues about using speakers like these for bass and it is only right to warn people They blew all the time in the 70's and farted out at high levels and unless used carefully still will. they were never designed for bass. It's a shame to blow vintage gear and my instinct would be to trawl eBay for a replacement G12-65 to keep it original....
Thanks for the information there mate, that's actually helped a hell of a lot. Makes sense that the dB difference would cause a dominance between some of the speakers. Probably why I get a stronger sound from the 3 Celestions that are in there. Me and a friend recorded a couple of tracks with my cab, got a wicked sound from the proper speakers but it was lacking in power slightly when recording on the no namer (we tried all 4 for a blend) As i've said on a reply, i'm not going to get the 30s now, i'll just hold out and keep searching for another G12T-65 so go in it. That'll hopefully do the job! haha Cheers for the replies
