Ah okay i didn't realise the QC on them could be a bit... naff! I should probably invest in a DI to have in my rack case any way for such situations. To be fair, a lot of the venues i've played normally have DI boxes there to hook up to if needed but it probably is sensible to have one myself. Cheers for the tip dude!

Hey guys and girls I've got a Hartke LH500 head that if i'm honest, i'm bored of. With my band, i've been practising in a studio that supply an Ampeg B2-RE head an i've been really enjoying using that thanks to the switchable Graphic EQ along side the Parametric EQ. As you all know, the LH500 only has a 3 band parametric EQ which doesn't give me enough options. It sounds really good but just falls a bit short for me because of the lack of Graphic EQ. So, as is, I would say my budget to replace it with is £220 so i was weighing up a couple of options. Obviously I would love to get an Ampeg B2-RE and i've seen them going around that price but the other options I found was the Bugera BVP5500 (SVT-3 Pro copy) and BTX3600 (SVT-4 Pro copy). i checked out a couple of videos of both on Youtube and they both sound fantastic with a hell of a lot of options but I want to know what the general opinion of people on here is? One thing i will say is though, if someone is going to come along and say "Just get an SVT-4 or SVT-3 etc etc" of a much higher price, please don't bother because my budget is what it is, i can't add anything to it. In an ideal world I would love the SVT-3 but it's not feesable. Also, the amp has to be rack mountable, 2u preferable but I have a blank space that I could use to make it a 3u. So yeah, any one used the bugeras? What do you think? Cheers!

Question for Rickenbacker owners!
Biaeothanata-Bassist replied to Biaeothanata-Bassist's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks so much Ash, I really appreciate that! Looks to be 80mm apart -
Hey guys This is a pretty simple one but can somebody do me a favour and measure the distance (in millimetres) between the centre of the 2 screw holes in the tail piece that holds the foam mute assembly part please? I'd really appreciate it as I need to know for a future project modification. Thanks Steve

Hey guys, My band F.S.I. are headlining the Portland Arms in Cambridge on Saturday (12/07/14). If you're from the area and you're in to metal, come check us out. We're mostly playing songs from our upcoming album so hopefully it'll go down well. Here's the event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/1400826600178226/?fref=ts I'll be laying the low end through my Hartke / Ampeg rig on my Tobias bass. Here's a link to our previous album on youtube if anyone's interested: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnrlsulYfGI7xcglcBgq7pleYxtkJV7k2 Cheers, Steve

I bought a set of Steve Harris Seymour Duncan pick ups from Paul, he was a real easy bloke to deal with and the transaction went very smoothly. Thanks very much Paul, i appreciate it bud!

Dave sold me a Spector tone pump pre amp, was really friendly and extremely helpful through out. Can't thank him enough. Cheers Dave, I wouldn't ever hesitate to deal with him!

Get Well Soon Howard, The Bass Doc
Biaeothanata-Bassist replied to Billy Apple's topic in General Discussion
Sorry to hear about this, Get well soon Howard! -
yeah that's what i thought with it being a non-fender copy plate. Typically, a mud bucker is 3.5 inches across and the standard jazz neck pick up is 3.6 inches across so it leaves a nasty gap each side. I might just bite the bullet, do that and then make a pick up ring to do round it or something. Seems like a cheaper option.
I got one from Sims Custom shop a few years ago. I was having my Lakland DJ5 converted to a PJ by the Gallery, so i got the correct sized PG from them and let the Gallery cut the pup hole out. It wasnt cheap (around £40 IIR) but it was a very high quality PG anyway. http://www.simscustom.com/
Good god that is expensive! I suppose it's worth it for a Lakland bass. How did it turn out in the end? I've seen them on Warmoth's website but it's $25 then the shipping which I can't see as being cheap. The whole bass is just going to be a cheap little project to try and get that "Cliff Burton Rickenbacker" tone (mud bucker in the neck position, stacked Seymour Duncan jazz pick up in the bridge position in stead of the rickenbacker bridge pick up and then a stratocaster single coil put where the foam mute would be in the rickenbacker tailpiece so i'm just going to stick some cheap pickups i have laying around in to it along with the Dimarzio WP Neck) I'll keep scouring the net for a blank jazz pick guard from some where though. Hopefully one will come about for less

Good choice mate, if those reviews are anything to go by then they'll be well worth it. Especially in a back up bass too. The bass I want the JBXN for is my back up live bass. If you get some soon, please put some samples up on here?

Peavey T40 / LaCabronita / Dusty Hill tribute
Biaeothanata-Bassist replied to FEND3R's topic in Build Diaries
I want it! Give me that bass! Gotta say mate, well done on that job, it looks fantastic. I'd love to hear how it sounds -
I've heard A LOT of good things about the Entwistle PBX/JBX series and even more good reviews on the PBXN/JBXN (Neodymium) pick ups. I'd personally go for those if you're looking for one sub-£30 as i think the PBXN comes in at £25. There's a review of them on this site under the reviews section, go check it out.

After Dave's (Nibody) endorsement on how good it sounds, I think I might have to get a JBXN to go in the bridge position of my practise bass to pair it up with the Seymour Duncan SPB-4 SH pick up. Has anyone got any sound samples of these Neodymium pick ups as i can't find any videos.

Hey guys and gals. I'm looking for a pick guard for a jazz bass BUT i don't want it to have a pick up route in it as i'm thinking of sticking an EB-0 style hum bucker in it (I have a Dimarzio Will Power Neck laying un-used) in place of the usual neck position jazz pick up then use a stacked jazz pick up in the bridge position. I know this is un-conventional but i want to do it and have a few spare bits laying around un-used so i might as well use them. Any help would be appreciated. The cheaper the better too obviously haha Thanks very much

So glad i offered mine up and it just got ignored on page 1!

Meddle, Newsted's sound for all the mid to latter Metallica tours came courtesy of these - It's not a great photo but basically, he's got: - MXR Phase 100 - Boss BF-2 Flanger - Boss CH-1 Chorus - Sansamp Bass Driver DI - (I can't make out the silver pedal to the left of the Sansamp) As for his amps, he just had 2 cases of Ampeg SVT-2 Pros racked up with switchers and power conditioners as shown below. The right rack was basically for his back up amp, personal mixing desk and rack drawer. His outboard effects that he had on stage were Cliff Burton's Russian Big Muff and Morley Power Wah Boost although towards the latter years he started to use the Dunlop 105Q bass wah. So yeah, to get his tone, you basically need a Sansamp, a chorus pedal, a flanger and a phaser for all the effects. As you see, his EQ was nearly bass cut with mids and highs boosted.
A bass in that condition regardless of the make is still a battered looking bass IMO. And history, what history? OK it's old, but there's no history in the listing other than it's been owned by Pino, and the consensus seems to be that he's not been seen using it on anything significant. Who owned it before him and what was it used on? Old doesn't automatically equal better for anything.
I'm glad someone has finally said this. End of the day, it's a bass. A knackered old bass. I could understand a slight hike in price if he had of used it on a few notable albums as that's historical but still shouldn't merit it being nearly £20k. Or if it was John Entwistle's (excuse my spelling) If they manage to sell it, i'll be extremely surprised.

If I can get to it, i'll bring along my 2009 MIJ Steve Harris signature model with the new SPB-4 signature Steve Harris Seymour Duncan pick ups Alder, Maple (heavily lacquered), D'Addario Nickel rounds, 250k pots in case you needed to know all of that

Hey guys I need some help with a piece of gear i want to build. Basically, i want a looper in my rig signal chain. I already have my clean signal blended with an overdrive through one unit but then i want to send that signal in to a looper pedal with a full blown distortion in the loop of it but I don't want it to be blended, I want the main signal to be running through at normal level but have a pot on the distortion loop to bring in as much of that loop as I want underneath the main signal which i would then run from the loop box to . Also, I'd like it to be true bypass foot switchable from an external footswitch. Reason for this is when I record, I have 3 channels. channel 1 is my bass with an amp simulator, channel 2 is the bass with Sansamp sim (TSE B.O.D.) and an amp sim (Ampeg SVT or GK 800RB) then a 3rd channel sitting under the mix which is a copy channel 2 with the overdrive set to blitzkrieg and a TS-9 sim (TSE TS808) set really distorted just to bulk out the mix. Sounds so good! I would most likely house this in a half length 1u rack unit as well and the signal chain would be as follows... - Clean signal with overdrive blended - Looper box with distortion in the controllable loop - out from loop box to amp, amp to cabinet It sounds simple enough but i just don't know how to do it. I know the Boss LS-2 basically does all this but i'm not forking out that much for it and it's not rack mountable. If anyone can help, i'd really appreciate it. thanks!

Hum free Jazz pickup recommendations
Biaeothanata-Bassist replied to lefrash's topic in Bass Guitars
Seymour Duncan STK-J2 is a stacked jazz pick up available as neck and bridge versions in 4 or 5 strings. It's 4 conductor wiring too so you can coil split it or reverse the phasing. Totally hum free and amazing sounding pick up. I wouldn't use anything else for a jazz pick up personally. -
In my opinion, the latex MXR M87 Bass compressor is the best pedal compressor on the market but if you ever go for rack mount gear, the DBX 1066 is the best going. My main choice of bass is a Fender Precision Bass as well just so you know. No point in me re-typing what Hamfist has said about the MXR above as he's hit the nail on the head about it. I used quite a few compressors over my time over playing bass and those 2 definitely get my recommendation.
