  1. He is talking about Gibson using smaller sections of mahogany to make a body then capping it both sides, which is what they did in the 70s. They didn't use MDF.
  2. That is totally irrelevant, the fact you had to shell out to replace their defect makes it worse. Unfortunately at that point, having been in similar places, you have to turn into a bit of an a*se to get stuff done. Fender are very big on social media with their 'fender play' adverts and the like on twitter and facebook. On all of those adverts you see like that, reply to the post with 'How can I play this as my 2 year old £900 fender flea bass neck warped and it appears they aren't expected to last over a year' and similar. And on their page, comment on any post where people ask about their basses with things like 'Be careful, the necks are only supposed to last a year until they break' and the like. do that and you will find that their response speeds up drastically. For some reason (and I think it is a shame), customer service of many modern companies is entirely driven by their social media profile, the person who waits and shows them respect appears to get nothing. I hate doing it, but it works very well.
  3. Same here - its a 'well, we are going to throw a tuner here, its the only place spare' look
  4. Luckily not quite as big as a P bass, so I can live with it!
  5. A detuner sounds like a good option for you though
  6. Well, that is the thing, even when I was playing the P bass all the time, I was still not able to play some things that I could play on other basses.
  7. All the time. I don't really use it specifically for lower notes so much, like you there are only a couple of songs that have a note that need a 5 string to play, but frankly I would struggle to play ½ of them without a 5 sting as it makes some things much harder to play. Every so often I take a 4 string to play and quite often mess up If you aren't using your 5th string, why do you have one? If you just want a lower note for a song or two maybe a detuner is a better option?
  8. There are whole swathes of goth and industrial groups who basically exist on depeche mode covers. Personally I always loved but it would hard to say that in the context of this thread that any of them really were more known than the depeche mode originals.
  9. Nah, he wasn't very good with covers
  10. I have a couple of PICs around, but I think it has a separate serial as well. If not I can just connect the i2c to something and use that. Just a question of what to connect. I could actually just dispense with the footswitches and have it as a box which connected to the McMillen 12 step,
  11. If you mean 'we don't seem to have had our weekly relic thread (up until this one), then it may be true.
  12. I do want to make a multi footswitch, but long and thin to go along the front of a pedal board. I have an Arduino that has bluetooth on it, as I also want the option of using it as a page turner as well for the iPad, don't know if it is feasible to go back the other way as well.
  13. Just tried to book something tonight. It was actually prohibited from sending via interparcel without a hard case
  14. They have gone down a bit recently - when something comes in everyone has to buy it so it keeps the price up, then when it has calmed, it settles at a lower price. If I was looking for one now I would wait until the end of the month
  15. Noone expects the transparency mods...
  16. £429 is the going price at the moment, so anything less than that is good!
  17. I got a £10 voucher from Thomman for doing a review - does that count?
  18. Sounds very much to me like you are trying to get financial gain by making RIckenbackers seem exclusive and cool by not having one 🤔
  19. No one mentioned great sound, and why would anything blow up??
  20. Yep, loads, all the way back to 2008: https://www.basschat.co.uk/search/?&q=Maruszczyk &search_and_or=and&start_after=1136073600&start_before=1422144000&sortby=relevancy
  21. Never noticed that but haven't really spent much time listening to it, compared to turn it on again. Still, I suppose I can't judge. Everything we play speeds up!
  22. Yes, it always bugged me.
  23. I got a pair of alto TS212s the other day on a local group, after months (years) of dithering of whether I needed something better and if 12s would be enough etc. People will always say you need the yamahas and RCFs etc, and I am sure they are fantastic compared to what I have, but for me, it turns out they are great and better than what we had.. I am sure you can get something better but it was £300 local pickup to me with all leads, stands and padded bags and as I already had a behringer X mixer, I didn't need anything else. My plan was to get a sub at some point, but I can't honestly say I have needed one.
