1.
Nice basses, but heavy and very precise, I found them quite impersonal. Same problem with Warwicks.
Normally I'd agree, except for 'vintage' Warwicks that is
 2. Updating my favourite thread. Gutted that my Thumb was aggravating my pain, loved that bass, but now also loving having a Music Man back in the family The 3 M's - Mike Lull, Music Man & Modulus
 3. I love vintage basses, and have owned a fair few 50's and 60's Fenders. These days I don't have one and I'm not exactly that bothered either tbh. But there was a time in my 20's when I felt like I 'needed' one. It was a phase but I'm glad I went through it. Since then the ones I've owned have been purely for fun, because I'll never believe they are better than modern ones, just a different vibe, and great when they are good ones. But man there are some pre CBS pigs out there too, I've played a fair few of them. Sometimes certain wood was just meant for tables, not basses
 4. Been playing mine today, love them. GLWTS, shouldn't take long.
 5. Just read this - On Saturday, the day after he was released from the hospital, Prince took the stage at a dance party near his home and curiously said, "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers." Painkillers in the US are way stronger than in the UK, I know first hand after extremely painful surgery there. Highly addictive, massive highs and as serious as class A's. Maybe he knew the damage but was struggling, like millions of others do.
 6.
Just be thankful your yob isn't the early 60's and your Fenderish
Just be thankful your yob isn't 1978 and your Fenderish .... Ok, I know there are SOME good ones out there....
 7.
Don't really understand the attraction of owning a bass that was previously owned by a well-known bass player. It's not as if any of his ability or expertise resides in the instrument and will somehow rub off on the new owner, is it? In fact in my case, every time I picked the bass up to play it I'd be reminded of the fact that the previous owner is more talented and more successful than I'll ever be and obviously didn't want this particular bass anyway because he sold it! 'Enjoy playing your crappy yet expensive Pino cast-off, you talentless fecking loser-nonentity!!' ...Would be the words going through my head. So not for me, thanks.
Haha! Me too for sure.
 8.
I wasn`t meaning to run down Clive`s work. I have seen some photos of his work and it`s top notch. I was just trying to work out what bit of the bass he had worked on seeing as it is a bit of a state. Sorry, full of Mojo It must be the battery box repair.
Didn't think you did mate I thought that perhaps to some the name Clive Brown may mean the to them the same as Joe Bloggs, that's all
 9. Looks like it, watching it on sky news now.

 11. Another big factor Rick has to contend with at NKR is that most of the gear there is on a commision sale basis, so if the selling punter wants the top end of the market back on it, there's another chunk on top for the shops end, (then eBay's end which factors on cheaper gear too). However for some buying punters this is ok because they'd rather pay extra and spend their hard earned £1000's in an established shop, with a bonified reciept, rather than buying from say you or me. I love the guys at NKR and had 3 happy years there, I can't defend £16k but i bet it'll sell for much less in the end. Perhaps it's also that Pino only wants to sell if he can get top dollar? It is what it is, buy it or don't i guess. In my time there I saw some lovely gear come in and out, some hang around and some sell in a flash, it's a funny market that'd give me sleepless nights if it was my bread and butter. Like Jebo1 said, it's all gone a bit silly now, but the wheels still turn somehow.
 12.
"Paint re touching by Clive Brown" Eh??
Clive is a bit of a hero in the vintage world. He calls his work 'restorations' rather than refinished. Some of his work is simply outstanding. This is not the best example to be fair, but then it did have a huge chunk taken out of it
 13.
Thanks Daniel. I would definitely be open to acupuncture again if it was recommended as I had it some years ago when I damaged my radial nerve. That and some fairly rigorous physio made it bearable at least.
That's good to hear, it's only as good as the practitioner so hope you find a good one if you end going for it.
 14. Really sorry to hear about your situation mate. I can't help, but as I've had great results with acupuncture I looked at this http://www.acupuncture.org.uk/public-content/public-ask-an-expert/ask-an-expert-muscles-and-bones/ask-an-expert-muscles-and-bones-hands-and-fingers/3707-would-acupuncturist-help-for-trigger-thumb.html it's not exactly helpful, but another iron for the fire perhaps. Best of luck with the issue pal
 15.
Could it be that it's not actually a very good bass?
Might be, but then he has been selling a few through them recently.
 16. <p>
At one time, Kiwi had a Modulus Sonic Hammer -- which I believe was the bass on which the Flea model was based. It was an absolute monster. He brought it to my place once and we tried it at some considerable volume through my rig in the garage. If I recall correctly, a shelf fell off the wall.
Haha! Yup, they are absolute monsters. I love my Stingray 5 but it sounds tame compared. Reminds of the time I took my 300 watt Valve Head and 4x10 to my mates house. We plugged it in upstairs, played some heavy dub sounds and came downstairs to find his little 1 year old terrior shaking in a puddle of pee EDIT: I do love animals, shouldn't laugh really but you had to be there. She got lots of cuddles
 17.
Just love that bass. Hang onto that one mate. It's a cracker.
Funnily enough, I was offered £2500 and then £3000 this morning by a guy who's chasing one and saw I had one. The very risky process doesn't add up for me though .... Paypal, live and work abroad etc. So luckily I don't have a painful decision to make because well, it's a killer bass but £3000 is £3000
 18.
The Billy Apple Signature Spector Forte 5 Helium..
Love it!
 19. Now that this is a porn thread... Here's my Modulus Flea - just don't mention the star bangled banner
 20.
OK, if you insist Skipping through the alphabet then to Exhibit R: Rickenbacker 4004LK
Hits the spot every time
 21. EDIT - More pics in post #6 below Posting a couple of pictures for Mark, I'll post more tonight when I have time. I know this bass well, it's a fantastic example of a great CS Bass and the Surf Green looks even better in the flesh. Genuinely awesome bass.
 22.
How about this, is this a fair statement? Flea "bombed". It can happen to anyone. Blue
Yup, that could be it amongst many other possibilities, and it is a fair statement if that's the case. I'll never get to play anywhere near Flea (and others), so it would be nice to know that sometimes they can bomb just like I can
 23.
Oh the irony of people moaning on a forum about people moaning on a forum. You gotta love this place.
Um, do you not see the irony in that line? It's wasnt a moan though, it was a tip of the hat.
 24.
I guess I would bring the same defense to any of my generations bass heroes if he had a bad night. Blue
That's the difference Blue, I'd defend anyone on this. Your constant 'us and them' generational thing leaves me cold and confused.
 25.
I think it's hard even For Flea fans to defend this embarrassing performance.
I'm finding it harder to defend this 3 page thread full of anger, holier than thou judgments, narcissism and negativity. Flea started his journey as a punk, heavily influenced by Jazz musicians in his family home and Funk on the record player. He clearly improvises for the love of it, doesn't give a monkeys about rules and restrictions and often admits himself that sometimes improvisation doesn't pull off and we all have off days. As a kid I watched his bass video, he called bad improv days something like 'days when your head feels like a stale marshmallow' He's also human, sensitive and allowed a bad day at the office. If he did have a bad day at the office, so what? If he was nervous, so what? If he's happy with what he played then also, so what? At least he had the balls to do it and isn't on a forum picking holes in it
