1.
If you are going to be doing your own wiring then a multi-meter or at the very least a continuity tester is an essential piece of kit. That way you can quickly check what the contacts on an unfamiliar switch actually do and then use that to work out what wire needs to go where.
I wouldn't argue with that for more advanced stuff. Though over the last twenty years I've managed to change pickups, pots and caps and all other switches with a diagram and absolutely no issue. It's just this one particular bloody switch, lacking diagram, that's got me stuck!!! If I bought a MM it'd gather dust!
 2.
Get your multi-meter out and check the contacts to be sure, but I would suspect that C1 toggles between contact 1 & 2 and C2 between 3 & 4. Then it's just a case of following the diagram. If it's the wrong way around for what you want then simply swap the wires going to contacts 1 & 2 and likewise 3 & 4.
Thanks for the post, I don't have a multi-meter though and would also need a crash course!
Just replicate your DPDT wiring using the corresponding CTS terminals as in the pic below. This should do the job, (with 'up' for series) .
Cheers Ian, I was thinking along those lines as a 'give it a go' approach tonight. I guess you made that diagram yourself? Hats off and big thanks pal
 3. Hi all, I'm stumped. I bought a CTS 250k push pull pot for my Jazz Bass. It's different to the old school ones I usually use and I can't find a decent diagram to wire it for series / parallel. The diagram that came with it seems to be for a humbucker being put into series / parallel, and it isn't clear where the wires from the other pots go... It's a 2015 USA Std Jazz Bass, so black and white wires with regular VVT The pot: The diagram it came with: I recently used the diagram BELOW to fix a series / parallel toggle switch to my Lull PJ4, and it worked great. I was wondering about copying it, but the terminal codes wouldn't match up to the first diagram pic I posted. (I.e. Terminals 1&3 are linked on the old school one but it's C1&3 on the CTS). I could take a guess and 'translate' where they go, (so put 1&3 to C1&3) but if I get it the wrong way around (2&4 to C1&3 as the diagram below has no codes) then push might be Series and up Parallel, not what I want. Or it may not work at all????? Am I missing something here? I'm happy to do this but understanding electrics is not a strong point. Any ideas guys? I'm hoping not to waste time by using trial and error on this one. Cheers
 4.
Well, I seem to have gone full circle, as my black n maple US standard jazz is back with me. Bought it back off Lozz today, and determined to try to achieve the mellow, full, and 'fruity' tone I heard last week from a Jazz strung with flats. I don't like the feel of flats, so that might be a challenge, but I've strung one of my Precisions with a set of Chromes to try (again) to get used to them. So, the real question has to be...what herbs go best with a diet of words, as it seems I need to eat a few!
I'm like you, often dipping in and out of the Jazz Bass world, with the old "never again". I now have the same as yours, also with flats on and I love it, even though it'll always be 3rd in the pecking order. I've learnt now to just keep it around for those days when I'm craving it, and those days are great Being a P Bass and Music Man kind of guy, I find that a series / parallel switch makes a very nice difference, especially for those days when the two pickups in parallel don't do it for you. A CTS push pull switch is inexpensive and an easy mod too.
 5.
I might get one of these, after all they are in my fave black/black/maple combo, just so I have a Mexican Wall Fender.
Best buy one soon, in case they strip down the range and he makes The Final Cut (the first one was bad enough... )
 6. Wonder how the MIM Rogers Waters model will do after The Wall
 7. First and foremost, best of luck to you for the future. You sound so positive through it, nice one My situation has similarities, and on the days I'm unable to play bass I can most often use the parlour guitar pictured below, it's been a revelation and I love it. I keep it on the wall above my comfy chair, in easy reach and always there
 8. As modelled by the man himself (with his personal gold P4 in the background)
 9.
A previously enjoyed one has just appeared on the Bass Direct used page representing a rather decent saving.... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/MIke_Lull_3tSB_P4.html
I quite fancied that one first time round, this time round it's taking even more will power to say no. Luckily, I have a Lull P.....but if it was a blonde 54P with black pickguard then I'd be truly prick teased and discontecting my wifi, burying my phone and taking the wheels off my car
 10.
I've never quite understood why anyone would pay that sort of money for what's essentially a Precision bass copy. I just don't get it (never have). I know there's the addage 'it's not the having, it's the getting', but you could purchase several US Precisions for that sort of swag. And before anyone chips in with a he-doesn't-know-what-he's-talking-about comment, yes, I do own a Lull.
I own and Lull Precision and a Fender US Std Jazz, and have 2 separate experiences relating to your quote, one that kind of agrees with you and one that doesn't. First experience (disagrees): I've owned some amazing Fender P's, including some light weight ones. However they never balance right for me. Due to severe nerve damage, the slightest bit of neck dive (and I mean ever so slightest) means that the bass becomes unplayable for me standing up. So I had to sell some great basses for that very reason. Some of the Fenders were actually lighter than my current Lull PJ4, but felt more uncomfortable due to the added pressure from their balance. I've had 3 Lull P's, all have been blinding. Ergonomically and tone wise they are worth the money for me, every single penny. The balance doesn't aggravate my nerve damage and they are just so comfortable. I thought my old original 64 P Bass would be the best P I'll ever own, and whilst the sound of that one was very special, the Lull is the best all rounder for me. Second experience (agrees): I pickup up a stunning 2015 US Std Jazz Bass last year which is a great match for me. It's one of those 'better than usual' ones that people often talk about. But when I pick it up, it doesn't feel anywhere near as special as my Lull does. So I took a trip to Bass Direct to check out a Lull Jazz, even though I couldn't afford one so was planning on doing the 0% credit card shuffle. I took my Jazz with me and to my surprise, I wanted to take my Fender back home, and not the Lull. The Lull was clearly an awesome bass, it felt better and had an incredible vibe and air of quality. But my Jazz did everything I needed and I couldn't justify the added expense or change. ***(I don't need to stand up with the Jazz)*** Plus, having owned pre CBS and Custom Shop Jazzes I'm getting a kick out of the fact that this bass is an absolute delight to play and own. So whilst the Lull's feel more special to me, I'd have to go with the fact that they are well worth the extra for the right person. As always, horses for courses.
 11.
I would never put myself up as a role model for dealing with GAS. Completely the opposite in fact. I'm absolutely useless. Doubly so when it comes to Music Man!
True, role model for good taste is more accurate. Your MM basses are great examples.
 12.
You're in denial. We're trying to help you out of it.
Really? I'm afraid you have a few too many rather fine basses for me to see you as a GAS role model. I'll seek help elsewhere and just keep on enjoying your gear from time to time (Just don't bring over the Purple Modulus, it still hurts. Though at least I have a new couch and chair out of it...)
 13.
Got to love it! Spread the love or sickness depending on your view.
Just realised too that by starting this thread, I'm a hypocryte
 14.
I do think you should go up there and at least try it

That's a temptation that along with the Spector Shorty could be a great afternoon back to back comparison. And 0% available now to really get the GAS going.

Not to mention this showing up in the smoke also!!! http://andybaxterbas...ils.php?id=1222
And here we have 3 reasons to avoid Basschat (see above).
 15. Just laughed out loud, excellent I can answer your question now... I sure ain't buying that bass, no, no, no. Since I bought my flat, the past few years regrouping my 'collection' has been fun, with lots of in's and out's, but it's over. O-V-E-R. And may this post bite me hard on the arse if I ever stop appreciating my current 3
 16. Here I am, GAS free and very content. Then this comes along... http://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Mike_Lull_P4_3TSB.html I won't be buying it though due to no cash or even a remote need for it. But I can't help drooling, I have a soft spot for this spec: Lull, Precision, ash/maple, shorty. Almost like when they made the babe in Weird Science
 17. It's just a new one...reliced.
 18.
I do indeed. I rarely have to slap for my current set list 😂 but when noodling at home it has the potential for good slap tones. When digging in with a pick and fingers though they have great flexibility and tone. I went for the 50-105 as that sounds best for the mixture of rock/blues that we do.
Mmm, I'm warming up for a set on my Sabre. Cheers, appreciated
 19.
I think someone has a tested set for sale in the classifieds. I am very happy with my set and can see me purchasing them for the foreseeable future.
So you have them on your MM SUB? How the slap sound and tone when you dig in? Cheers for the heads up, think they've sold though. I'd be after the 45-100 but would probably prefer new.
 20. From experience, these are unique and outrageous basses. Warren is a salt of the earth fella, so here's a great bass and great seller
 21. Tempted, but confused. Especially at that price point, I've got Fender flats on my Fender Jazz Bass. Love them, reckon I don't need more brightness. Thomastiks are on my Lull Precision (PJ) that works well but could be worth a try as it's a versatile bass. Got rounds on my MusicMan Sabre, not a fan of rounds usually but they do suit it, so maybe that bass could do with them? Any thoughts? (Edit - leaning towards the Sabre)
 22.
it really is pretty tidy. I'm enjoying discovering the cool bits e.g. through strung hi-mass bridge. And that sound! it's the thickest rudest old thing you ever heard. I reckon I have most of the basses(*bases) covered now with EBMM Ray, this P bass, and Sire Jazz. :-)
Really pleased to read you got sorted, nice one. I'm on a same vibe as you, P Bass, Jazz Bass and MM, covers some great angles. I nearly had to sell my Jazz recently but a promotion at work luckily saved me. Like I said earlier, my Jazz is a 2015 USA STD, when you get a very good example of one they can equal basses double the price. To my taste, mine has equalled 4 out of 5 Custom Shops and a Lull that I've compared it to (the other Custom Shop was just insanely good). As you've found one that stood out over others I'm sure you'll get decades of fun out of if.
 23. Definitely a hard choice when you're not sure, so many Fender P's out there. Do try as many as you can, and see what ticks your boxes for sound, feel and looks. You could try one bass from a range, and it'd be totally different to another in the same range, so again try as many as you can. I've had too many Fenders over the years (not complaining though!) from Pre CBS, Custom Shop, USA, Mex and Jap. My current P is a Mike Lull as I need a high quality light weight one, but I also now have a recent USA Std Jazz Bass which is excellent, especially in comparison to other models of that range. I'm super happy with that one, and don't feel any need to upgrade. So my personal advice is to find one that you get on with in the shop, because that one will scream at you to take it home. My Jazz Bass did and I wasn't even going to the shop to buy it. Good luck.
 24.
Thanks everyone for the input and suggestions. Heard good things about the Tonehammer. Do you have any experience of the amp? Wondering whether the head would offer the same tone shaping/colouring that the pedal offers, or whether the pedal goes a bit further.
The TH amp is great too, but for you're needs I'd strongly suggest pedal + amp, so that the amp gets a fuller and more personally EQ'd tone to enhance.
 25.
Hm.. hadn't thought of that. Definitely a simpler solution to swapping out the pups. What preamp pedal were you using?
At the time it was a Sans Amp Bass Driver as not much else was available years ago. I still use one of those when I want that particular sound, but only occasionally as they can be tone suckers. These days I mostly use an Aguilar Tonehammer when I need one, great pedal. I'd recommend trying a few, you may need one that colours the sound, rather than one like the MXR which keeps the natural tone mostly the same. Buying second hand on here is always good as you can flip it for the same money if it doesn't work for you.
