I only bought this pickup up two weeks ago to go in my Lull PJ4, but have since installed a Lindy Fralin P Bass pickup in the neck position and they don't match up well (though luckily the Nordstrand Dual Coil that I had before this Big Single does match up very well with the Fralin and sounds great). This one matched up beautifully with the Nordstrand NP4 P Bass pickup that was installed before, and gave me the extra trebles and bite that I was looking for. But as I've been a huge Fralin fan for a long time I seriously doubt I'll ever put the Nordstrand P Bass pickup back in again as I feel back at home again with the Fralin (in case you're wondering, the Nordstrand is a fantastic pickup for a modern and tight Precision tone). Anyway, 2 weeks old and hardly used. Bargain for replacing another soap bar pickup or replacing a Dual Coil. Bartoloni DC size - 101mm X 32.3mm From the Nordstrand site... single coil 4/5/6 string bass pickups these pickups are all about huge, full, loud, aggressive single coil tone. they use the same magnet layout as the fat stack, and the resultantly big coil is about as much single coil pickup that can be packaged in a soap-bar cover. this is the ultimate pickup for the jazz bass®-on-steroids tone purist! these pickups will fit as replacements for bartolini™ p2 (5 string) and bc (4 string) pickups. dimensions are 4.25″ by 1.25″ and 3.95″ by 1.25″ respectively. standard spacing is 19mm ctc at the bridge
I think you were right with the first one - despite all my focus being on this one particular bass, I can see myself looking further afield if/when I do finally get hold of it. I am in denial about the extent of my GAS!
Yes, the 'one more hit' sub category of GAS
OK...which is the closest match for "I've got pretty much all the things I want/need, except for one very specific bass, and I'm going to need to save a fair bit of money and probably wait for the exchange rates to shift in my favour before I can finally buy that one and then be happy for life*"? *"Life" may not necessarily mean "life."
Either a classic case of GAS denial or none of the above and a flaw in the poll.
GES Is never really a permanent state....
Really? You definitely make a great argument for that, but I know a lot of guys that have been set with their gear for quite some time. I suppose for them a certain need makes for a purchase rather than GAS, in it's additction and fun form that is. Anyway, that's the dream I've been chasing!

The Aria Pro IGB series had a medium scale years back, PJ configuration. These were often very lightweight and you'd have money left over for better pickups. A friend of mine who is a tech and obsessed with lightweight guitars and basses suggests headless conversions too, so if you find a bass you like and fancy getting the band saw out.... Good luck mate
Gus GAS!
Love it

At one point today I had too much time to think.... Which have you got? After having to sell off my collection a few years back I've gone from GUS to GAS and then GES. GAS was fun, until it stopped being fun so then some GUS turned into GES. Too many nice basses out there really, so with a lack of funds 'want' has to fight 'needs', the winner being GES.
Look, you really don't need this bass Daniel. It doesn't match your carpet or anything. Just sell it to me and be done with it already
But we've got wooden floors now If my cash flow goes tits up again then you'll be the first to know my friend, otherwise she's staying put and is grounded indefinitely

Lozz has a great point above, it gets you there a bit more IMO as split coil P's have so many mids. If anything, my Jazz sounds more like an original 51-57 single coil P Bass pickup when the neck pickup is solo'd. That's 'more like', not 'just like'! Less mids etc.
I like the look of them tbh but an off the hook black Stingray is probably going to be more use for anyone in a Chilis tribute band, granted most people here just wanted them for what they are. The stack knob Jazz actually pre dates Flea himself by two years.
Or one of these bad boys Hard to believe he used these for about 20 years, time flies. Though a Jszz is great for playing along to the later albums.
Ultimately mine is going back because of the flacking finish on the back of the neck Honestly I agreed the finish doesn't look naturally aged. I am thinking of just getting an american standard jazz (always wanted a jazz). How do the post 2012 models compare (I do like the natural sound of the flea jazz)?
I have a 2015 USA Std, (previously owned Pre CBS, 70's and Custom Shop Jazzes). I LOVE this bass! Wasn't even expecting to get one as I never liked the Std's enough to keep hold of one in the past but this bass really stood out to me in the shop and it was an instant bond, had to buy it. I compared it to 3 Custom Shop Jazzes recently and was very happy that mine was on par, all basses had their own thing going on. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you get one that suits you they are great basses.
As I say, mine may have been a Friday afternoon bass, even Friday evening finishing-off after having a few beers. Either way, I expect to see a lot of these for sale over the next few months. Chris
Too bad Chris, I reckon you must have of course wanted this bass to be the muts nuts so that's quite a disappointment. You've had some killer basses in your ownership over the years, from original vintage to the better end of Custom Shop and I suppose that makes it much harder to accept a bass that is aesthetically based on those lines, but not even close. I mean the relicing on Custom Shop can be very hit and miss so I would never expect a decent relic at lower prices, haven't ever seen one yet and doubt I ever will. Having owned similar basses to you (and often the same ones!) the relicing put me off immediately. Not quite as bad as the SRV Strat (edit - I mean Rory Gallagher not SRV) that has shiny paint in patches, but still very processed and odd in places. I'm also pretty sure that Flea's 61 has only worn down to the undercoat, or at the least not having the wood that much exposed. As for the tone, shame you got a bad one as the RW's can be awesome. I was saying just the other day that no matter how great a guitar maker is, sometimes wood just isn't meant to be a guitar and should have been a table or something Like I said earlier I still reckon the spec of this bass is great and perfect for many a player, it fills a great gap in the market and I probably would have got one just for the hell of it if I didn't have a Jazz Bass that I'm perfectly content with. I'm also very content with my Modulus Flea and am GAS free, but if the Custom Shop release the one he's currently playing I'm screwed!

I was just chatting to Lee650 about JV's this morning. I've had 4 JV Precisions, 2 were very early Fender logo 1957 versions, one was a 83 60's version and the other a 83 70's version. The Fender logo ones were outstanding and I'd still have one if it wasn't for the weight being 9.5lbs. The 60's one was good, but not great, the 70's one was fantastic and light weight, one of the very few basses I've had that I'd still like to own. The body wood can differ on JV, the Fender logo ones were Sen Ash (more of an alder though I believe and just called ash because of the grain), then I think some alder ones came out before moving on to Basswood... If I recall correctly? Only reason I mention all this is because as always, tones can alter depending on body wood. Personally, I prefer the Sen Ash and Alder ones. They are good basses, though sometimes I find the hype a bit too much and distorted as there are lots of good basses out there. Worth a punt though if you can get one at a decent price.
Hey man, sorry to see you offering this up, but needs must I guess. Not for me at the moment. If it was the Modulus, I would be round tomorrow ;-)
Exactly pal, needs must come first but luckily for me the Modulus can stay put, this Ray should cover me just fine if I end up selling it.

Or £1050 without the case This was recently for trade only but following a NBD it's now for sale only as I need to recoup some cash. Stingray 5HH, made in late 2013 / early 2014. Comes with an earlier MM hard case. Ash body, maple board and weighs in around 10lbs. Excellent condition, no dings and set up great. I'm sorry to say that I'm unable to post this one, so it's collection only. *****NO TRADES PLEASE***** CLICK ON A PIC TO BE LINKED TO MORE

I might have put a higher trade value once, or maybe I just considered it? Anyway, my thinking was in case the person who wanted to trade had their bass valued higher than I valued it at.
Pictures please! Thanks
Hey Sephalda, I'm going to post some pics for Mark He's not kidding either, this bass is one of the CS top shelf ones. I compared this to 2 other good CS Jazzes recently and this was my personal favourite, such good tone. Ankther thing I love about these Journeyman basses is the relic type neck with closet classic type finish, great combo.

This pickup came with my 2015 Mike Lull PJ4 and was used for about a year. I've since replaced it for a Nordstrand Big Single as I prefer the high end response of the single. The Dual Coil is a great sounding pickup up, but just not what I need in that bass. Bartolini BC size - 101mm x 32.3mm This is the Series version, you can read below about the pickup and the difference between the Series and Parallel versions. Price includes UK postage and 3 black pickup screws. Nordstrand Dual Coil This is a modern design dual coil humbucking pickup. Pickups like these are usually found on very high end basses. They use Alnico V magnets and the traditional bi-pole layout with two poles per string. It's almost like two Jazz Bass® style pickups in one cover. These pickups are available in two different versions. One set is designed to be wired in parallel, and the other in series. The reason we do this is that a pickup that is made to sound good wired parallel will usually be too hot and dark sounding if wires in series. So, we put less wire on a series dual coil than a parallel dual coil. In general, a pickup wired in series will have a fuller and fatter midrange with a subdued high end than a pickup wired in parallel, which will typically have more highs and a deeper low end with a cleaner midrange. Series pickups also have more output than parallel pickups. Parallel pickups are generally a better choice for a split-able installation, as there will not be the gain loss associated with series pickups. These pickups are available only in black plastic covers with exposed pole pieces. These are a direct replacement for Bartolini BC, P2, P4 soapbar size pickups, and are also available for EMG 35/40/45 sized pickups. (S for series P for Parallel)
And.......who knows I may sell the 64....
I hear you mate and like you said earlier 'pocketing a few quid' is what made me sell off my pre CBS basses over the years. Your new one looks lovely and will do the job just as well.
