Looks good to me, and I imagine 90% of people would happily put up with small concessions to modernity/money-saving/ease-of-use in exchange for that great sound (myself included). Not to put the other 10% down, it's horses for courses...
2. No Aces High???
3. I think if you'd bitten his hand off, that would have been a worse outcome than just embarrassing yourself. How would he play with only one hand?
4. And insane 26 frets???
5. I really want to go to this one year, between Maiden, Motorhead and Sabbath it's pretty much a dream team. But I go to Rebellion every year, and until I start earning, any other festivals are out. I expect full reviews from all attending though!
6. I won a set in a competition. Way the prices are going if I hold onto them for two years I'll be able to buy myself a new bass with them
7.
How can they justify this outrageous price rise and expect to keep customers or I missing something? Are they trying to put themselves out of business? Please enlighten me.
I'm guessing they had some sort of increase in cost of materials or overheads? Still doesn't justify why the % increase is so much higher for bass strings than guitar tho. Having said that, I haven't heard of other suppliers having price increases. Maybe elixir are taking advantage of the recent increase in their reputation? Personally, I'm not gonna pay £43 for a set of any strings, let alone a 4 string set of roundwounds.
8. I still love punk, but it's true that there was a lot of sh*t in the early years. I don't believe being able to play an instrument to a pro standard is necessarily a requirement to be in a band, passion and attitude are also important. Sure, punk was originally about rebellion and fashion (among other things), but the later genres it inspired took it beyond that. The way I see it, half the music I love best wouldn't exist without punk: Hardcore Ska-punk The faster end of metal Modern punk Psychobilly Anarcho-punk My £0.02 anyway
9. Ouch. +43% on strings that are already more expensive. Find another coated string manufacturer?
10. I once asked the (very stoned) bass player of Jaya The Cat (ok, so not that famous, but still touring internationally) for any tips and he said cryptically "It's all about the low end, man", then fell off his bar stool. Helpful, I know...
11. Weird. Bit of an eyesore that neck if you ask me. Which you didn't.
12. I sold 2 cars and a bike via ebay without once paying final listing fees or paypal fees. If it's a little expensive people usually jump at the chance to save a bit of dosh and complete off ebay. Just don't put that on your listing, just encourage them to "come and view" and people get the message.
13. Hi Clarky, How much are you looking at for the tapewounds? John
14. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/REPLACEMENT-VINTAGE-STYLE-SCREWS-FOR-TELECASTER-PICKGUARD-SCRATCHPLATE-/400486533762?pt=UK_Guitar_Accessories&hash=item5d3edb8a82 "Vintage-style screws!!!"
15. The condition of that would put me off, regardless of whether it was genuine or not. The neck looks nasty. Up to £205 now, with 7 days to go :/
16. The amusing thing about that is they don't seem to have been able to find a p bass for the background of the picture, so there's a tele (i think) instead. Quite an ugly piece of furniture tbh.
17. If it was £50 start I'd give it a punt
18. That's Little Mark II surely, not 11? Also, free bump
19. Amazing work, guys. Interestingly the top two (at the point I voted) were the top two in my head as well
20. Hmm, good point. I hadn't thought it through too much
21. Hmm, I'm tempted. £3 is a bargain. I should be revising, but meh.
22. The RH450 is actually up on ebay, shipped from the US, for less than £400 (brand new). Now that's a steal. The psu is auto-switching, so no issues with power either.
23. Looking at MarkBass' website, Robbie Shakespeare uses them. That's a recommendation right there. Only issue I can see is that it says "Minimum ohm load for all Markbass heads is 4 ohms." Does that mean you can't use an 8 ohm cab, or have I got myself mixed up? I get a bit confused how the ohm ratings work.
24. I'm a little way away from buying anything giggable yet, I just have a practice amp. But I'd really appreciate some suggestions on amp heads that I can buy (2nd hand is fine) for £500 or less. I'd be looking for something that can handle everything from reggae to punk, via metal, blues and fingerstyle funk. I'm currently looking at a Barefaced Compact as it would allow me to add another cab for bigger gigs, while being a good all-rounder on a budget. Any ideas? For a newb, the vast choice out there is overwhelming. All I really know right now is want a big bottom end (don't we all ). A bigger, heavier amp is not a big problem as the light barefaced cabs would cancel that out to some degree. Thanks in advance, John
