Rebellion 2013
last time I went to Rebellion was about 3 years ago when my band played, we did ok, the room was a lot fuller at the end than when we started, never got on since, but yeah the sound always puts me off. it's awful most of the time, seems to improve when the headline act is on, funny that, or maybe they've got their own soundman who knows what he/she is doing
What's your band, Paul? I may even have seen you guys.

    Rebellion 2013
Discreet, I'm sure it wasn't that bad. Yes the acoustics were a proper nightmare for anyone on stage as well. No clarity and a massive 125Hz rumble. Didn't help that it was 12.45 am start : / Neville Staples was fun, though sounded better from outside!
Neville Staple is always good, I think that was the 3rd time I've seen him. King Prawn were amazing too, great to see them back.

phil.i.stein, saw your set. Good job. Acoustics are always a problem at Rebellion. Completely killed Discharge's set for me, it just came out as big, thumpy, echo-y mess

    Rebellion 2013

Bit late to be starting this... officially starts on Thursday, but still, anyone going? Maybe not to everyone's taste but I've been attending for years now.
  6. Hmm, £5 a day? It's a possibility. Smuggle in a crate of homebrew and make a day of it.
  7. Love this bass intro, simple but effective. And what a tone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoODqlaYvuM
  8.
I have pretty much the opposite problem mate. I have played bass for years and years. I always mucked about on guitar, but recently have decided to play the guitar a lot more and I find the tighter string spacing and my sausage fingers to be a hinderance. I did see on youtube recently a massive fat guy tottaly ripping up a guitar fretboard, so it shows it can be done. The thing is, they are essentailly the same type of instument , but very , very different in practise. And thats what its all about. Practise, practise, practise
Sounds like you need a Mark D Phillips "chipolata fingers" special. You know, the 7 string converted to a 6
  9.
Ah, pride comes before a desperate thread... Asking again would be the cheapest solution.
Next you'll be suggesting that asking for directions when lost is a good idea!
  10.
This whole punk debate isn't very punk isn't it, trying to categorize everything and put it in it's place with nice tidy label. I love most of the bands mentioned already, old and new, and don't care what it's called, but it will all be put under the 'punk' tag by most and I don't care. I love Gallows first album and wether someone considers it punk or not won't change my opinion of Gallows, just of the pedantic twat trying, and failing, to make everyone agree with him.
Amen to that. If you like it, it doesn't matter too much what genre it's in. Only thing it's useful for is to find other similar bands. For example, when I started listening to Stoner/Doom/Sludge metal I only knew a few bands, and knowing what the genres were called helped me find other bands.
  11.
Indeed. When people ask me if I like punk I pedantically reply the I like it if it's mainly UK based 1976-80'ish and as long as it doesn't involve mohicans and studded leather jackets. I don't much care for other music carrying the 'punk' description.
*Takes off his studded jacket and puts on a hat* Nothing to see here, lads.
  12.
I apologise if this offends anyone, but I couldn't resist it - Heavy relic indeed! http://www.ebay.co.u...=item232bf8aa3a
Heavily reliced in a fire? Haha
  13. Sorry, not sure what I was driving at with that pun anyway.
  14. Personally I refer to "punk" as anything within that fairly broad umbrella that isn't categorised as "hardcore" "oi" "psychobilly" etc. It includes much stuff that would be categorised as ska-punk or skacore, anarcho-punk and the heavy end of punk that is nearly hardcore. I don't specifically refer to just the 70s/80s stuff using that label.
  15.
Must be a northern term then. Anyway the item mentioned by the op are in fact Chicken Pick plectrums, so they are "plecs" Just like my Jim Dunlop plectrums are "plecs" not Dunlops.
Dunlops are tyres
  16. Heh, excellent, a good debate (argument?) started. I agree on Matt Freeman, definitely the best punk bassist alive today imo. I probably meant "some of the best punk basslines" rather than "the best".

  18. Thoughts? I meant "Is this the band with the best punk basslines in the world" as opposed to "Are these specifically the best punk basslines in the world"
  19. I see it as horses for courses. Personally I'd let an instrument get natural wear over the years, but I can see the appeal of one that looks "vintage" or "relic'd" or "roadworn". It just seems ridiculous to pay extra for someone to do that to an instrument. How many professional, touring musicians do you see with instruments that have acquired their patina in a way other than years of hard graft and "abuse"?
  20. They're great in the same way Oi bands are. Not particularly intellectual or musically intricate, but hugely entertaining with shout-along choruses. Strictly Hardcore is a great tune. John Robb is a sound guy as well. Had a beer with him at Rebellion a few years back.
  21. More girls with attitude and integrity: (Definitely not safe for work) This discussion's all got a bit 'eavy, like.
  22. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/grip-studios-grip-hanger-grim-reaper/32990 Awesome if it's a metal bass...
  23.
Bassists! A ChickenPicks® pick will increase your picking speed by 500mph! 24. The intro bars sounded promising, then it all went a bit white stripes. Some bits were very stoner rock- Kyuss, Orange Goblin or Clutch style.
