1. (Said to you during break before your second set). "We will say goodbye now in case we don't get chance at the end" = "We are going 5 seconds after you start your second set"
2. We play a mixture of covers with varying degrees of simple to complicated bass lines. The song that we play that has the most impact from the bass is 'she sells sanctuary' Audience love it when bass kicks in with drums at start and it's the most easy but boring song to play. Horses for courses.
3. With more and more people listening to music through tablets and phones with crappy speakers, songs with bass in is none existent anyway
4. Ordered a wiring kit from John. Great communications and pleasant to deal with. Fitted it all today and it works great!! Thanks
5. Yes but point 2 is the hard bit. When I was looking for an amp for pubs gigs in a rock band I looked at a lot of 200 amps and read conflicting reviews where some said they were loud enough and others not. Even sales people in various music shops had opposing views and trying it in a shop does not give you any basis of how it would sound at a gig. I ended up buying a 500 amp to cover all bases hence my original post
6. The amp you suggest a Hartke LH500 is perfect for this. It's my main amp and I liked it that much I bought another as a backup. It's very simplistic so whilst it generates a decent enough sound on its own it's perfect to put pedals in front of to dial in a tone. I use a b10n in front of it and have several patches set for various songs we do. Amp remains flat
7. The band I am in now is by far the best musically but the most fun I ever had was in a band when I was 18. We were all 18 year olds and there is no way we would have ever let a 25 year old in let alone someone in their 40s
8. 42 and desperately trying to continue playing bass in a band whilst bringing up a family. Gets me down quite a lot only having pretty basic basses and amps (browsing on here doesn't help ) but I have amazing kids that need my money more!
9.
Where does the idea that bass amplification has to be 4x more powerful than the sum total of the rest of the backline come from then?
If you are referring to watts then that has little to do with the volume. The way I understand it , and I may be corrected is, bass amps need more power IE watts to drive the low frequency. A guitar with higher frequency needs less power to achieve similar volume levels.
10.
I got my B1.on (brand new) for £41 inc p&p from a seller on Amazon. It's perfect for home practice. Headphones in, iPod or other music source and bass...sorted
+1 And not to mention the hours of fun with the looper and drum machine
11.
A bit off topic but there's a whole scene devoted to distressed looking cars, it's called "rat rodding". My brother had a colleague with a VW bus which he painted with oxidising paint so that it would deliberately look rusty. Looks pretty cool (imo) on those old American pick up trucks! Mighty fine looking P that though!!
Yes I have a customer that builds distressed looking teardrop caravans
12. Saw some more pics of this the other day and it looks like all the dots around the dials light up when switched on so should look pretty cool when playing in the dark
13. People will be wearing jeans with holes in next !
14.
Unfortunately said 'mixtape' will consist entirely of the mates' favourite tunes from the late 80s and the band will get continually hassled by random guests during their break to put on some decent music as it is automatically assumed it's their mixtape. .
This happened to us once. We did a 50th and the guy asked us to play some background music inbetween our sets. Knowing what he liked I compiled a 45 min selection of ska songs which complemented our Mod and Northern soul stuff. Only problem is people carried on dancing to the back ground music on the dance floor and I had left lots of gaps inbetween songs as I never thought to mix it properly. Cue lots of people standing around on dance floor waiting for next song to kick in.

16.
£400 is below what we charge pubs....
You're doing well to get £400 from pubs. Most pubs don't pay much more than £250 unless they sell tickets. Like I said though in other posts I'm not in it for the money anymore. We are playing a great pub tonight that gets packed solid with singing and dancing punters.
17. Thanks for all the kind offers guys. I may buy a new loom or get to grips with soldering myself. I have some old mic leads somewhere that have packed up so maybe about time I leant repair work.
18.
The 'volume knob pole' shouldn't waggle in my experience, so it could be the volume pot that needs replacing? Or like you say, a loose wire/dry joint. Shame you don't live closer as I could of done this for you for nothing. Its only a small job. Maybe someone on here who lives a bit closer could take a look? Jas
Thanks for the offer. I only waggled it when I undid it with a spanner so am sure it's just a loose wire. Don't mind taking it to a shop as the one I have in mind is 5 mins away. I just wanted to know in advance what he may (or try to) charge me.
19. Sorry if this should be posted in repairs. Just plugged in my bass to rehearse for tomorrow night and no sound. After a bit of playing about I removed the volume knob and when I waggled the pole it sits on the bass came back on and then became intermittent when I waggled it. Obviously a loose wire but as I have absolutely no skills in what to look for or how to repair it, I will have to take it to a shop. There are 2 shops fairly local to me who I know do repairs but I've never used them before so have no idea how much they will charge. Anyone know roughly how much I should expect to pay for what I assume is just re-connecting a wire and hopefully a simple job? Just don't want to get ripped off. Its only a cheap JHS Vintage so not overly happy about spending too much on it. Fortunately I do have (an even cheaper) bass I can use for tomorrow night Thanks in advance
20. I think it looks great. I'm a big fan of the LH series and use them as my main amp but also like the shape function from the other Hartke amps. Been waiting for a class D from them so hopefully will be affordable
21.
I suppose it depends on your outlook on life…
Exactly
22. I will probably be in a minority of one here but I, and I'm sure my two band mates are the same think about the gig before the money. If it's a party it will probably be a good night so we would be happy with £50 each. We've done loads of party's for friends of friends on the cheap. I've spent 15 years playing in boring clubs where I only did it for the money. Nowadays I'd happily play for a low fee as long as I enjoy it and I see people enjoying themselves to our music. Life is short so I want to play as many good gigs as possible.
23. It all depends on what extras you would need to be doing outside of a pub gig like arrival time, performing times etc We get £200-£250 for pub gigs but we always take lighting, play music in between sets and play for 2 x 60 mins. £400 does seem a bit high to me unless you are providing and actual disco too rather than just backing music. Tell him you will do it for £200 but he needs to get a dj to fill in between your sets
24. I use a LH500 as my main amp as it's very loud. I went into PMT Bham last week to buy a TC BH250 as a portable back up but the guy in the bass dept said it was not loud enough for pub gigs so I ended up buying another LH500 as they had one second hand. The blackline gets great reviews but think it's hard to find anywhere that stocks one to try.
25. Opening an old thread. Thinking about buying a couple of these as an upgrade from my 2 x TC BC210s. I've played a 410 hydrive and liked it but my back and storage options tell me 2 x 210 would be better. Problem is no one seems to be using these 210s as there is not much talk about them on here. Anybody use them? I'd be using them with my Hartke LH500
