1.
I think a world without Ray Manzarek is worse off than a world with him in it. That's a loss if you ask me.
That is a great post, and a good way of looking at it. A RIP to someone talented and you respect is enough, and in my opinion acceptable. A week and a half or months is far too much
2.
Wall to wall dead rockstars for the next 40-50 years, and on and on and on mark my words. Celebrity obituary channel any day now.
Too be honest, I would much rather that than E channel on the brain dead Kardashians etc. At least there would be some discernible talent on it. I find some things different for me. The passing of Ronnie Barker and Frank Thornton for example had a little sadness as they are people who I grew up watching, and they were always on TV. Perhaps that is to do with me knowing I am getting older. I like the Small Faces, so Steve Marriot had a slight effect due to the way he died. But Frank Sinatra had a great long life, so it made no difference to me, a bit like Ray Manzarak. But if someone posts the passing of someone I don`t know or care about, I will respect it and just pass it by. If a friend posts the passing on FB, again I will respect it. The only time it gets unsettling for me when we have outpourings of grief like we had for Lady Di
3.
Probably not. Fair point. That's the thing I don't really agree with. I'm a big Doors fan and Manzarak was clearly key to that, but I didn't know him personally and I still have access to his great music, so where's the 'loss'? After all, The Doors 'died' decades ago so we've all managed quite well without them for years.
Very true. But some people see it from different perspectives. As you said, it would only be a loss to most people if they were still contributing. Jim Morrison could have been a loss at 27, and Gerry Garcia could be considered a loss at 53 as he was still active .But , if someone feels he is a loss to them because they touched their lives somehow, then I it is ok with me. I would consider someone who has not been active a loss if they still had tales to tell and went to the grave with them. Some of those are better than the music. Some musicians that inspire are a loss for the experience they could still give, even if they haven`t been in a band for years
4. I guess he is a loss because he was a founder member of an iconic band. It would be sad if someone out of JLS lost his life for example, but I wouldn`t think it is a loss to music personally. So really I guess it is a loss if that person contributed in some way to your life if it is through music or any other media.
5. In Harrods yesterday, they had a beautifully cased bass that was owned by Roger Waters and a guitar that BB. King used. The Roger Waters Fender apparently used during The Wall with Pink Floyd was $9995 and the BB. King Epiphone guitar was only £6995.If i had the money i would buy them even if overpriced. If you are ever in London, it is worth a look as they are peices of art the way they are mounted. It is in the millionaires roww in the technology department
6. A good band and a pretty singer, what more could anyone ask for? There is nothing shocking about it if you compare it with Christina Aguilera for example, that goes out on daytime MTV.Some people are easily shocked.
The definite a wiring problem, either you know how to fix this yourself or take it to a guitar tech to fix it for you. I used to own a Warwick Corvette which done exactly the same thing when i install a set of EMG active pickups and John East preamp. The bass drains the battery in 2 week and thats without plugging it in. Whether i use it or not it will still drains the battery. Took it back to the guitar tech that install the electronic for me and he can confirm their is a wiring problem which he fix it for me.
Ahh ok, that could be the problem then.I have a Warwick Fortress Rockbass with EMG active pickups. No idea of the preamp.I will take it to the repair shop next week

I am using Procells, and before that Duracell, so I can`t see it being the batteries.I will time this one, to see how many hours I get out of it while playing it.

pre amps

I have a pre amp on my bass. I had not picked it up for a week as I bought another bass without a preamp. I picked it up this morning and the battery was dead.I seem to be going through them at an alarming rate.I take out the lead after every session, so do I need to remove the batteries as well, or is it normal to get through so many.I go through one about every week, with only a hour or so use a day
10. I usually just say "oh that thing, it is been there for months". Never tried it on anything that obvious though.
11. It is a stunner. If i ever get to play the Bass to a reasonable level, the bass equivalant White Falcon is high on my list.
12. The only clue i had about it was the neck was different which he mentioned, other than that, i would not have a clue it was not original in anyway shape or form.So much to learn in the bass world
13. not really knowing anything about Fender Precisions, what is wrong with it as you say you want one, but its not for you, and also the not surprised it is cheap comment?
14. ahh didn`t realise it was the same one as the it is no longer listed in that post so assumed it was a different one as it is only £5000

16. You take critisicm very well, which is good. That is all i am qualified to add really
17. Don`t ask me about differences in sound cables as i can`t tell any difference.I have a Livewire 3m cable and they give you a 10 year warrenty, or lifetime if you register it.All i can say, it sounds fine to me
18. ahhh, i came on here all excited thinking you were going to say in the next couple of months.
19.
Excellent stuff. On of my personal goals this year is to learn Starship Trooper.
I am assuming you are not refering to this http://youtu.be/1xq0_8zsiqw
Err, nothing, it was offered as part of an explanation as to why prices on the whole are low rather than taking exception to the question. Or did I read it wrong?
Perhaps i read it wrong.I thought i had broken the rules somehow.\\but reading it again, i guess i did read it wrongly, so i apologise

flat market
Forum rules (no auctions / statement of item value) coupled to people's knowledge and a broad range similar or alternative instruments conspire to keep prices on the low side around here.
What has that got to do with asking about basses being so low?

flat market

have the prices dropped dramatically over the past 3 months or so? I couldn`t find a decent thru neck bass for £300 back then.In fact, i paid £300 for my Warwick Fortress Rockbass in February.I know i paid over the odds, but i couldn`t be bothered to wait for the auction to finish , but most were going for £250 on ebay back then.
24. i find it weird how they list the house as a 4 bedroom, 1 bath house
25. I would be more interested to find out what first bass my heroes would have played.I might be able to afford one of them, but not one they played when they are big time charlies
