1. He wasn't even a good guitarist, I used to tell him I resented giving him the same share as the other guitarist. It's a much happier band without him.
2. I'd qualify, I've got long dark brown hair and I'm definitely over 22. So is my youngest daughter!
3. Four hour gigs are not common over here, we usually play 2 x 1 hour sets plus encores. Pubs have to have music licences for live music and the licence sets a cutoff time when the music must stop, in my experience usually half eleven or midnight. Few places want us to start before nine.
4.
My point exactly. Blue

My point exactly. Blue
I think we're playing the same song here!
5. If people object to having their 'art' compromised by filthy lucre, why not play for money to avoid undermining those bands who actually need the money and then donating the money to the charity of your choice? We used to have a guitarist who like to tell us the money didn't matter because he was rich. He still expected his share, so I threw him out.
6. Fair enough, but don't be too surprised if the local roofer refuses to drink with you down the local any more, or worse.
7. I just (yesterday) changed the original Fender strings on my Precision for a set of D'Adddarios of the same gauge (45-105) and had to back off the truss rod about 1/8th turn to get the relief correct again, also had to adjust the intonation on the A string.
8.
thats the fella, just bought my first cable of him, mighty impressed have to say!
I bought a couple, very quick delivery and quality is first class. Done about half a dozen gigs with them so far, no problems at all.
9.
only one bloke to get cables from you know...
Probably the one I got mine from when the Fenders started playing up http://bassic-bits.co.uk/
10. I've had three of the tweed Fender leads for about 2 years, and none of them are in use now. The fabric frays easily and also the connection to the jack plugs seems weak. All have been retired as too unreliable for gigging as they would cut out at random moments. They do look nice in the shop, though, which is how i ended up with three of them!
11. I like pub gigs as it's the best time the band spends together. We are well rehearsed but rarely play the same song in the same way twice, it is the creation of music in front of an audience that does it for me. For example, last Saturday our guitarist called out 'Rock Me Baby' but Jenny (singer) said she didn't want to do it, so we played it very slow and a little funky, she was getting into all sorts of vocal tricks with it and the audience were captivated by the effect of such as well known song being torn apart and rebuilt in front of them. It helps that we have a very good vocalist, of course.
12. Just got home from our first Halloween gig, we have another tomorrow night. Most of the audience had gone to a lot of trouble dressing the part, kind of fun to look at at an audience which included Death getting down with his scythe and assorted zombie types everywhere. Great fun, hope tomorrow's is as good.
13. I reckon you'd be lucky to cover your costs, to be honest.
14.
Haha wow - I love GWR stock (although im more a roads than rail person). I've still got lots of Mamod and Wilesco engines in the loft somewhere - they didn't get that much use as i was lucky enough to be playing with full size engines. My dad's just started making a half size Burrell Gold Medal Tractor that Little Samson Models produce the drawings/casting for (shameless pump for Edward). I've worked on all sorts from Ransome's Traction Engines, Burrell Road Loco's (we used to co-own Duke of Kent) and most importantly... Fowler T3B roller, Jenny
You probably know my good friend Tomo Thompson, then.
15.
Do you use the pre shape button ?
No, just a bit of the valve pre amp and adjust the eq to suit the venue. Usually just add a bit a middle and slight cut on the bass.
16. Getting way off topic, but I was a regular evening eater at Angela's. The Red Lion & Pineapple was my drinking hole during the years I lived in Acton.
17. That's the one. I lived in Acton at the time as well, on Horn Lane.
18. I power my Super Twin (no tweeeter) with an ABM500, very happy with the sound.
19. Was that the John Bull on Chiswick High Street? I used to play there in the early 80s.
20.
In the interval I went straight over and turned it round to face the wall. .
So wrong!
21. My band mates are the most important people in my life after my wife and daughters. How could I share something as intimate as making music with people without caring about them as people?
22. I only listen to music I enjoy listening to. I don't consider that to be snobbish.
23. No problem spelling Firefox here....Eff, Eye, Arrr, Eee, Eff, Oh! Exx.
24. That thread title made me run downstairs to check it was still there! I wouldn't change a thing, ABM 500 into a Barefaced Super Twin. No FX.
25. We had Crossroads on the set list anyway, but it brought a lump to my throat to play it. We announced it as a being in his memory, but most of the audience hadn't heard the news.
