1. I feel your pain, we have a harp player who still asks what key the next song is in after two years. Then he usually mishears the answer.
2. Delilah is fine, but doing it properly requires a stage that might stretch the average pub https://www.youtube....h?v=NhIMEMDYxZE
3. Interesting, that means my VM P bass is 'cort' though I have no idea what that actually means in terms of quality, etc.
4. I rather regret letting my Squier CV Precision go (the one in that slightly odd pale blue) when I left Finland as it played and sounded great and was definitely a better bass than the VM that has taken its place. No regrets about the Fender US standard J bass I swapped here for a similar spec P which is now my main gigging bass. Likewise no regrets about the Guild 301 which was so neck heavy it was unplayable standing up (my first 'decent' bass, back in 78 or 79) nor my white & maple Fender P bought new in the early 80s and sold to help fund a house move. Every time I see a pic of that bass now I hate the damn thing, looked like an anaemic ghost. Put me off maple boards for life!
5. Measuring everything to the Nth degree can seem a bit OTT, but I have two P basses, one Fender which is my main bass, and a Squier I use as a back-up, and I want them to feel as similar as possible so that if I need to change mid gig there is no difference in feel or sound. Measuring one and then applying those measurements to the other made this quick and easy for me. My Jazz bass I set my eye and feel as it will never feel like a P anyway. In fact, it very rarely comes out of its case these days. Anyone interested in the eternal Fender vs Squier debate might be amused to know that I copied the set-up from my VM Squier to my US Standard and not the other way around!
6. We managed a classic last year. It was the third or fourth gig with Jenny, we opened as a a five piece (four now, we cut a guitarist) for the first set, then Jen came on to front the second. We started her set with 'White Rabbit'. Now this was in my local pub, 200 yards from my house, full of people from my village I drink with nearly every day...and who have had to put up with me going on about how great our new singer is etc etc. So expectations are high, and reputations in the balance (mostly mine). Bass, drums and guitar play the intro, she steps up to the mic and gives it everything....the audience look unimpressed, some of my friends are shouting to turn her up, so one of the band ups her mic level on the PA, not enough, they want more...they can hear her as she reaches the crescendo, but it's not enough. Harp player/PA man returns to stage and casually mentions that he turned the power amps off during the break (never done that before or since) so Jenny was doing her best to make herself heard unamplified over the full band thumping away behind her. No further complaints about her volume once the amps were back on. And her voice is so powerful that we didn't realise she had no amplification as she sounded fine to us!
7.
Quality was fine and the performance was ace...could hear the bass better than that other clip too
Thank you, much appreciated.
8.
Her voice here is fookin' amazing, lucky you are......still cant work out the music stand though
A security blanket as she was unsure of some of the lyrics...she had to learn a whole set of songs when she joined us and was also preparing for a festival appearance with Babe Ruth in Milwaukee. Even now we sometimes have to feed her the first line of a song, then she's off Just realised you linked to a video of White Rabbit, she had been with us 2 or 3 weeks then. Video taken by my daughter on her iPhone, so please excuse the quality.
9.
If we had Jenny Haan as our singer, we'd let her keep the music stand... still can't get over that story of how you 'found' her in your mum's kitchen! fairy tale stuff.
I still chuckle to myself when I remember that first meeting (our kitchen, my mother in law lives with us), and the look on the faces of the rest the band the first time she sang with us! She still makes the hairs in the back of my neck stand on end when she sings, even in rehearsals that voice is still mindblowing.
10.
Go on Dave buy it then I can stop looking lol and with my headless I cured slipping off the end by wrapping a bit of old wrist band over the end until I was use to it
Go ahead, I'm pulling out of this for now, I really don't have 250 quid going spare ATM.
11. I have a Jazz as well (though don't play it much these days) and that is a gnat's under 39mm, OK if i don't use the heavier strings I prefer on the P. Still tying to convince myself I don't want it....and failing so far!
12.
Shame about the music stand though.
I hesitated before posting the vid because of that. We've broken her of that habit now!
13.
Not keen on the song but, blimey, she's got a great voice! Truckstop
Thanks That's Jenny Haan, she's been singing with us for about a year now.
14. Getting very tempted....just under a year since you had my Thunder one, looking back...at least we're not under water this time! I've never played one of these, how does the neck feel, and how does it balance on a strap? (though I suspect I would use it mostly sitting and through headphones, it might be a more convenient back-up bass than the Squier P for small gigs).
15. Interested...would be ideal for home practice in my small 'lair', better than constantly banging the headstock of my P into the walls! Give me an hour or two to think it over....don't suppose you're heading this way again any time soon are you?
16. Could you tell me what the scale length is please?
17. We usually close with this, a good female vocalist is essential!
18. I set mine to 3/32" (about 2,5mm) at the 17th fret, feels comfortable to me.
19. I often wear a leather waistcoat in stage, haven't noticed any problems so far.
20.
Scratch that. We lost our drummer so no gig for us
Damn, was just thinking I could go along as our rehearsal has moved from Thursday to Tuesday next week.
21. Me too, just plug bass into amp and play.
22. Straight from D'Addario's website:
Pure Nickel - The primary electric string alloy used in the 50s and early 60s. Its lower magnetic properties deliver a slightly warmer, “broken in” tone preferred by many vintage enthusiasts.
23. Memories of last summer, Faringdon Follyfest
24. No, his has been hot-rodded by some local harp guru. I played through a standard one a few times in Finland, as a bass amp it was nothing special really.
