1. Saying that, you could make a short scale bass if you can source a neck that's the right size as well.
2. Flea is a very good player, to a level that most of us here could only dream of achieving. Debating who's better between brilliant muso's is...well......a bit pointless unless you sat them all down together in a room and got them to play, unless you happen to be talking about which style you prefer. I personally would chose Claypool over Flea in that context though, I just prefer Claypool's style. Both phenomenal slap players.
3. Squire are improving though, and to be honest, I doubt he plays the production model anyway, it'll just be money making gimmick.
4.
Hi Buzz, Pompy? your Signature says near Coventry Thanks for the bump.
Thanks, I'd forgotton to update it to show my new location.
5.
what are scalloped frets?
Basically, you know how the wood inbetween frets is flat on a normal fretboard? On a scalloped one it isn't, they make a shallow U shape in the fretboard between the frets, allows for better bending and other techniques. Yngwie Malmsteen is problably the most famous user of them (he's a guitarist, a bloody good one though), but Sheehan likes them on the top few frets for some reason. Google for images of scalloped frets or Yngwie's Start/Sheehan's Attitude and you'll understand.
6. What a prat, there's no need for it, specially not from a band that are doing well. I'm sure he could afford something to use.
7. That's got such a glam-rock vibe about it.
8.
CAn't you use the existing casing and have the content replaced or rewound?
+1 That was going to be my next suggestion.
9. Bump and interest. Collection from London would be a problem as I'm in pompy.
10.
Its a slightly inferior model to the Attitude LTD as it hasn't got the scallops, d-tuner and dimarzios but its by no means an inferior bass. £300 is a very good price - i would buy it straight away!
2 of the 3 are upgradeable anyway, and scallops don't rock my boat anyway, so for £300 hav' it!
11. Laney do good valve guitar amps though don't they? I know people don't rave about the solid state stuff for bass, but if their guitar valve heads are where their expertise is, I'd expect the bass one to be half decent. Roughly £1300 isn't bad for a 400 watt all valve head to be fair.
12. Do be dooooo, contact Andy at Wizard Guitars (google it), and he'll build you pups to the spec you need for a competive price. To be fair, it's a mexi jazz, pretty much any j-bass pup should fit in them.
13. Could you not just use a couple of rubber car mats stacked one on top of the other from Halfords for a quick test?
14. All together or can they be bought seperatly? If seperatly, what's the ballpark figure you're looking for on the items?
15.
A fireworks party at a pub...unil they were forbidden to do the Fireworks by Health and Safety! What is the world coming to? V unpopular with the band by announcing 'Hard To Handle' (which they all hate, and was not onthe set list) as an encore, then congratulated when the pub went wild!
What the bloody thundering hell? H & S stopped fireworks? Hope somebody nutted the tosser who was far too much of a jobsworth and spoilt a traditional night (closest weekend night to Nov 5th)
16. So to summerise, Lush is a no-no for your band name chap.
17. Tis an Ashdown, probably broken
18. Woah, that's beautiful.
19. I wish I did
20. Rock Cake? Rocksticks (as in Sticks of Rock from the seaside)? Chill Until Blue (read off a Carling can)? Hooves of satan however is what I've chosen on the poll.
21. I'd suggest Meths (Metholated Spirits, it's purple) as well, I tend to use a soft cloth, apply a small amount of meths and ease the residue off by rubbing in a circular motion.
22. To be fair, from what I remember from mine, a T-bird might actually suit you just fine. They've got chunkier necks, the pups are great, and once you move the strap pin to the neck heel, are apparently very balanced. /Is looking for a sunburst T-bird again, preferably with a few dings in the body so I'm less scared of "breaking it in".
23. People have beaten me to it, I was also going to say contact Andy at Wizard: http://www.wizardpickups.co.uk/content.asp?cpage=Repairs
24. I'd try a bit of white spirits (or turps) on it first to see if you can lift it and then rub it off with a cloth. I don't think it'll hurt the plastic, but don't take my word for it, test a small drop on a corner and see what happens.
25.
good lord, my first few basslines where all blink 182 i think! >.< What made me want to stat bass? Hmm, I think gomez had a fair grip on me bass wise
Aye, I also learned loads of Blink 182 songs to start with. I remember the first riff I learnt was the main one from Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, and I think the first proper line I learnt was Smells Like Teen Spirit.
