    NPD Valco KGB Fuzz

It certainly does, so it must be good, right?? RIGHT! It's fantastic. SO many sounds in one box, it does a really nice warmed up overdrive and gets pretty close to the splattery fuzz of the dedicated fuzz pedal. The LPF is really useful in cutting the top end when you get a bit lairy with the distortion. The phase cancellation switch literally doubles the options. Super pleased... the only issues are that the LED is retina burningly bright, same as my other Valco pedals, but dimmed with a stick on filter thing. The more distorted circuits like Germanium and Silicon need a boost in the output dial or putting it another way the Op-amp and LED modes need backing off, but with so many controls that interact it'll be unlikely that I'd adjust it mid gig. I think I'll keep the fuzz next to it, because together they offer a full gamut of OD/Distortion/Fuzz sounds and it'll be nice to have two flavours on tap.
  2. Ah that makes sense. I tried a GR20 and found it worked OK but certainly not as immediate and seamless as the GK.
  3. I'm a bit confused, because the GK system, using the pickup and COSM processing, has zero tracking issues or latency because there's no pitch to midi or anything going on. I guess this system is different, in which case why change it? As for the performance aspect, although I never felt I needed to alter my playing on the GK system, using a Future Impact or some such means altering my style a bit but I rather enjoy that aspect of it. It makes it satisfying when you play clean.

    Orba 2

One extra feature that looks really useful is the built in mic for instant sampling. Can't get one in the UK at the moment but I'll be looking. I notice the Orba is now available in blue and white, and the app(s) have been updated too.

    NPD Valco KGB Fuzz

Just to update this thread, I just bought a Valco KGB Dist(ortion) to add to my collection. I've found the fuzz so useful and flexible that I wanted to check out the distortion variant too. In addition to the flexibility of each discrete clipping type, AND the impedance control, this has a variable LPF to control the tone. Quite excited to try it out!
  6. Awesome. Site seems to be down at the moment?
  7. Does anyone here have the 3.3 and case? If so, would you be able to tell me the interior height dimension of the case? Cheers ped
  8. Seems a waste to have this sitting about - £140 posted?

    Envelope filters

Take 2. Another one arrived. This one was broken too!! The ‘full’ triggering mode gave a constant oscillation and although 1/2 trigger mode sounded fine, you don’t get the full range. Also the switches sounded really dirty. The range switch in particular was very crackly and sometimes affected the sound until you wiggled it. I bought this one on Facebook and paid with PayPal (goods) so although the seller is a bit miffed (mostly because he had to post it which seems like it was quite difficult for him) he’s agreed to take it back. I haven’t got the energy to send it for servicing and waiting who knows how long, so I’m giving up on meatballs for now. I have a good sense of how they should sound, and that’s great - but if I’m honest I’m not a fan of the construction (Valco have improved in this design considerably) and I don’t think I could trust one now!!

Actually I found it quite easy to use, to be honest. Although I couldn’t play with the decay, I was able to dial in a couple of nice filters quite quickly. It’s not as simple as a mutron that’s for sure but only a few of the switches have useful modes for bass, and I didn't explore the fx loop or pedal inputs.

Thanks, I did think about it but the pot is behind the pcb and a bit fiddly otherwise I may have tried myself. Finding somewhere to repair it could have been a pain and it probably wouldn’t be worth the same as an original un-repaired unit (however crazy that might be) so I decided to return it and get another. I’ve had some issues with pedal ‘repairs’ in the past and can’t be bothered with the cost and delay!

Had a bit of a play last night alongside my Mutron III+ (The Musitronics one is away getting a true bypass). Unfortunately there's an issue with the decay knob. The seller mentioned that it had 'fallen off' when he packaged the pedal, but wasn't too clear about what he meant, so he said he'd send it and let me have a look/try, and refund if I decided. Very kind of him. So when it arrived, I was at work - the knob seemed solid, and seemed to turn, albeit with a bit more resistance than the others. I took it to band practice where I had a brief play but more to check it worked. Last night I had a proper play and found that the knob was spinning but the shaft was locked solid. Even so, it seemed that the decay was stuck at a point which sounded great, rather a slow decay which on my preferred second highest range setting sounded near identical to the Mutron. I really like how the colour adds some wobbly resonance to the sound, kind of like the Wonderlove that I had briefly, but warmer and less peaky, and less 'vowelly' for want of a better term! It's definitely an amazing sounding filter, and I'll replace it with a better condition one at some point, or a clone maybe. I think being able to dial back the decay will lead to some really farty squelchy sounds which I'd be interested to try. IME a fast attack and slightly slower decay in band pass mode with some clean blend is my other favourite envelope sound, akin to the FX25 in terms of growl, but without the massive resonant peak. Once I get another I promise I'll do a video comparing it, the II and the II+, the Qtron and the Qtron+ but I might need to borrow a looper pedal!

Meatball has arrived. Only had a shirt play as it arrived just before practice last night but rather liking it so far. I like having four steps on the range filter and a blend for when using band pass mode. It’s not lost on me how the enclosure is the same as my Valco pedals (which I love). First impressions are that it does the same mutron quack after some hunting around, and there will be a lot of other sounds here too. Plus it’s true bypass and has an indicator light for the input gain and on/off. Only tried on batteries so far but will feed it a 12v supply and see what that does.
  14. You certainly can At one point I had it installed on 2 Macs, an iPad and iphone
  15. Awesome isn't it. i joined a band a few months ago and used (and still use) Moises to learn the tracks. As well as isolating tracks you can slow down and speed up without changing pitch, use a smart metronome, loop sections and auto detect song sections. The best thing is that the desktop app syncs across all your devices so everything on my desktop is on my phone too. I also have the Boss Waza which are a great companion as you say, but I use Moises at home through my main headphone setup too. Pretty much every day now!
  16. Another +1 for Gemini, I have a Tbird and Rick pickup from them and they're fantastic, so nicely made.

I've got a Lovetone Meatball on the way! Always wanted to try one. At the same time, I've finally been able to send my Mutron III off to Soundgas (where I got it from) so they can do a true bypass mod for it
  18. The old system needed replacing entirely, which consisted of a high pressure non-combi boiler and various tanks etc. neighbours had the same done a few years ago which didnt coast that much but the plumber assured me that mines better so I can remind them all the time and ‘everything’s gone up m8’
  19. ...that's right, a gas boiler. To think of the basses I could have bought instead, but I guess warmth is OK. Luckily I had some savings so we could have the old system replaced entirely, which was on its last legs. It would be good if some of you could say some nice things about it
  20. If the wring is OK, would putting one of the pickups in the wrong way round lead to the phase issue?
  21. If you want to sell it, pay for an advert. You’ve already been warned once 🙄
  22. Seems like the conversation has turned into analogue vs digital multi fx. Sort of proved my point and I’m sure that bad experiences with digital multis puts people off digital entirely, which is a shame. It’s a bit like being put off cereal because you tried dry weetabix
  23. Ah I missed that they were rounds. Pretty sure Baxter would put whatever you want on for that price though!
  24. Some people really like super old strings, so without being able to say with certainty that they were original strings, I guess some buyers might like the idea that they might be. I doubt anyone buying this will be buying it because it's functional but I hope I'm wrong!
