1. Probably should add something constructive - I had a 6 string for a while and honestly forgot all about the fact it was a 6er, it just felt like a very open and approachable bass which served as well playing simple grooves as it did playing more solo-ish upper rang-y stuff. At the end of the day it was FUN!
2. Not as frightening as your hair, anyway hehehehehehehe
3. Same chap just sold a V-bass and had a pretty sweet Jaydee with that on it.
4.
and there was me thinking I had a good bass sound. Damn. I suppose I should be looking to get a couple of Boutique designer 12s now so I can get a decent sound. I really thought my 25 years of giigging experience had taught me that a good sound is only in your head. Right chaps lets all get the same cabs so we can all get the same sound. I think your missing the point here, who is qualified to say whether your sound is good except yourself, answer? - of course its none except yourself is it? Because only you know what sound your trying to achieve and whether thats with 10s, 15, 18s or even 12s or a mixture of all the above or even a 50 watt practice amp. So science can't define what a good sound is unless a computer has a better idea what you want than you do
I agree with this. Do your thing, and if it sounds good, it sounds good. One of my personal faves is to stick my horrible French bass through my HiFi. On paper a stupid idea but it sounds very 'fun'. At the end of the day I think a good player will just have fun with the sound and if that entails thousands of pounds on speakers that reproduce every nuance or playing through a wet sock into a tin can. I do however find all this information which is now coming to light about speaker design interesting from a technological standpoint. Play on ped
5. I have seen them on eBay. You can have them running from a head or just using an internal mic, obviously the latter doesn't track bass very well and the former needs a cable running to it. Cheers ped
6. oooh.. mine is 733.. a 1988.. yours was made on 20/11/89. Now get some pics up my son P.s Kev I would be surprised if that Spanish bloke gets any bids with such a lame advert (description/pics/willingness to post)

8. Better not point out the 5 string silver passion currently at £633 then!! Looks like a series 2 version, too... Actually I can't tell from the pics!
9. Also just a bit of clarification for those who are not familiar with the models: Series 1 - wooden neck-thru with brass laminate under the fingerboard Series 2 - all graphite weave neck-thru Series 3 - two very dense (75% carbon) rods through neck and 90% maple mix Series 4 - as series 3 but with bolt on joint Word. Truly some of the most innovative, different, French and sexy instruments out there!
10. Kev, there are two red Passion Series 3 basses on ebay at the moment as it happens - both in Europe though but quite unusual. One has a BIN of about £1k and the other is open to bidding... Cheers ped
11. Good choice of bass my man. Give Bacchus a call/email, they are superb and will go to the end of the earth to help you. Let us know how you get on... Cheers ped
12. Very interested to see the S2 passion Nick, it could be mines sister!
13. A cool flip painted Passion S2 Red Passion Early white Passion Nice silver Passion Tasty blue... you guessed it... Passion A fretless (conversion) Arpege Some geezer with a fetching purple S3 Nice shot of a blueburst S3 Passion A very early Passion S1
14. I have had two Vigiers for some time now (had three for a few months and eventually sold it to Lukeward2000 to share the love) Nothing sounds like them to me. They have everything I crave - stability, cutting clarity, beef, a real 'weight' behind the sound, light weight, beautifully shaped and extremely comfortable to play. As I am sure you are sick of seeing mine by now, I have attached some pics of various Vigiers I have come across on my web travels. The first two are mine.... A Passion S2 (with Marleaux electronics and Roland Vbass pickup) and a Passion S3 Fretless (With U-retro Deluxe pre) A couple of Nick's #1, a S2 Arpege
15. If you already have a guitar pod, how about a rack XT pro instead of the X3 - I can't see any reason to 'upgrade' except for the fact it does guitar too. I really don't know why they made it 3u!!

Hello Dr.J, I have talked to you about these basses on Talkbass. I used to have a very nice early 36" scale jazz 5 and a newer Twenty-Four bass, both of which were stunning and restored my faith in wooden necked instruments! Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your stay! ped

New Gig Rig.

Probably takes some getting used to I imagine. I bet it sounds really big from the audience though. Well done on the quick fix, that must have been a real relief and one of those moments that makes you feel like a 'proper' man, fixing things!

New Gig Rig.

That's good to hear - how did it sound (when it was working) ped
19. Agreed. It can be hatefully tacky and over the top, but a well placed single 'pop' or slap can be pretty groovy. I love the fretless and play it probably about half the time. Mind you, fretless can be equally cheesy when not used tastefully, loads of slides and chorus... gimme a break!! Cheers ped
20. Will look something like this - mine is 113mm screw to screw so it should fit a jazz 5 too.
21. Hi guys, Sorry I have just seen the replies to this thread. It is a great idea - the simple ones often are the best! It does indeed come with screws which have not been used. The cover would probably be solid attached to a pickguard but the screws may be too long and need to go into the wood, unless you modify it. If you like I can supply some double sided 'numberplate tape' which I use to attach things before screwing down so you can test/find the right position before going all the way. Cheers ped
22. Bass, because amps are easy to find - a bass that feels great and suits you is much more difficult to track down. That said - there is no reason whatsoever that a bass that feels great can't be had for much less than £1000 odd.
23.
Ped, how did you actually run it, live, can you remember?
Yes, we basically did the backing music for a girl who came to write some songs with us at the studio. Each track on the iPod had drums + keys and a smallish intro so we took our cues from that. It was as simple as pressing play and playing along. I understand your situation is a bit more complex though. My friend does the same thing as you mention (drummer has click, effects etc come through pa 'on cue' so I will ask him about it and get back to you. Cheers ped
24. I have done a couple of gigs where a laptop or even an iPod were used. Always worked fine actually.
