1. Just realised that my pickup naming thing comes form my vbass. Neck pickup is referred to as the 'Front' pickup and the bridge as the 'back' pickup.
2. I thought 'Front' (neck pickup) and 'back' (bridge pickup) were generally accepted terms :0)
3.
Have got this issue but not read it fully yet, however I think they spend far too much time deliberating on the differences between hugely expensive custom basses. There are budget/mid price basses in there, but not many. It comes across as that they are reviewing them more for their own benefit than the average bassist.
I dunno, I think high end custom basses have more interesting things to talk about than sub £300 models. Not being snobby, but imagine a car magazine only reviewing cheap hatchbacks and ignoring dream cars which we all like to look at. All reviews of run of the mill budget basses (irrespective of their quality and value) all sound the same, to me. Especially when the magazine reviews are usually always positive. ped
4. Hehe yeah I am on it. I just need to wait for my money to land and then I can see what I have to play with. I don't make much/any money with these but I will get my money back, so I need to make sure I have enough in the coffers to take a hit whilst I shift them all. I should be all paid up by the 14th so I will be expecting new stock to be advertised on a purpose built Basschat Shop very soon... ped
5. Cool looking bass. The front pickup does look a bit close to the neck for me, but I would have to try one to know for sure. A nice change from the norm. ped
6. I got mine from Stringbusters. It is more 'substantial' than a Comfort Strapp and less 'bouncy' so it works well with really heavy basses. Cheers ped http://www.stringbusters.com/frameset.asp?...ROOKLYN%20GEAR/
7. Thanks mate (I assume he is talking about the way they are put together rather than the specifics of the internals Ste) Cheers ped
8. It kind of gets stuck in the foam.. from there it pokes through the driver grille kind of bit... every now and then I remove the foam for a clean... maybe I shouldn't wear them after a haircut!!
9. I love my SR60s but wanted to ask a quick Q about the 80s. On the 60s the foam comes off to expose the driver, and hair can quite easily get trapped between the two resulting in rattling (after years of use there are lots of little hairs stuck in the foam earpieces). Are the 80s the same or do they have different foam in a donut shape as opposed to the flying saucer on the 60s? ped
10. I recall hearing Tauzero on his Thumb bass which was mighty impressive. And you aren't so bad yourself Kiwi my old son!
11. Thanks for the kind words fellas! I never intended for anyone to like my music apart from me! Lovely stuff. I really like listening to Basschatter's bands. I have listened to pretty much everyone who has posted a link or has a website in their sig, so there are way too many to mention, but I kept going back to listen to Elros' gospel band who were superb... Cheers ped
12.
I have a genuine problem with discussing "price" as opposed to "worth"
OK so why post!!
13. I don't think it's just that - there is a fine line between a bit of clack and a choking feeling IME. I found it works on some basses more than others, but cannot nail the ideal 'recipe' any further than I already have - I think it is due to the sum of the parts and the physical setup of the instrument...
14.
I find this thread Crass beyond belief.... Whats next who has the biggest c**k ? Or should that be who is the biggest c**k ?
I don't know why you would think that, I find it quite interesting. As some people have said, their basses are relatively cheap, mine included, so nobody is saying really expensive basses are better or that it makes them better than anyone else. Here is that Alembic, I can't believe it would cost $10k but the online price generator is on their site somewhere... I think this bass was 1991 (can you remember Kiwi?) I am sure Kiwi's graphite Alembic would be worth FAR more though now, this Alembic was being bought/sold for about 1k here... Cheers ped
15. Well the Alembic me and Kiwi owned for a bit ran up a price of $10,000 if ordered today, and that was without a couple of features like the 9 laminate neck, so maybe it would be even more... I am sure there are far more expensive ones out there though! Still, my best bass cost me only £500 and it slays them all! ped

Jazz clip

I still mean to update these samples and record a load more but getting to the studio (in Preston - I am in Oxford) is difficult at the moment, and has been for a while, because of timing issues! When I get back up there we will record a lot more samples and Linus27 I haven't forgotten!! Cheers ped
17. Well as far as I can see, if I had a bass I wanted to sell, something worth around £1500, and I was made redundant and had to think about a new house, paying for the old house, my car, applying for new jobs and all that other stuff, if a couple of people offered me £1500 for the bass frankly I would take those offers and keep them in hand whilst I was sorting out other far more important things before evaluating how much I could justify selling the bass for and then reassess things at that point. I mean, this goes on all the time because sales here aren't always set in stone. people post feelers, ask for offers blah blah all the time. Funny how tBBC picks up on just the one. I can't see what all the fuss is about, other than tBBC trying to undermine the people who own and run the site for the sake of it. I thought he was past that. As far as I can see this amounts to nothing but ridiculous bullying and it won't be tolerated, no matter how funny tBBC is/thinks he is. ped
18. Oh I will, I need a hard copy to make up my Vigier 'stuff' collection ;0)
19. Yeah I am excited, never been before. I am going on the Terrier day because I have an unhealthy fascination with Staffordshire Bull Terriers, so can't wait to meet them all! I will take lots of pics! P.s is it bad form to scan in the vigier review and email to someone?
20. Hi Platypus (brilliant creatures btw) That is very kind of you indeed. I am going to Crufts tomorrow and will probably need a magazine for the train so I will have a look at the station to see if they have a copy, if not (they probably wont) I will PM you tomorrow with my details for sendage. Cheers ped
21. I don't normally buy the mag (all the info I need is here!) but would be interested to see the Vigier review but can't really get into town today with my heavy workload. Hmm. If there was some way of looking at it perhaps electronically... ped
22. Looking like Birmingham or Northampton at the moment, got a few irons in the fire at the mo so nothing solid yet. Cheers ped
23. Hey guys, just a note to say how grateful I am for everyone involved in setting up this event and to all those who attended. You make Basschat proud! Hopefully we can have a national bash soon. Cheers ped
24. Hi guys, just been looking through the pics of the bash, gotta say you all have done Basschat proud! Both look like great fun and I am really glad more members managed to meet up and put names and faces to usernames, it really helps the forum stay so friendly and fun. Cheers ped
25. LOL sorry mate. It's absurd really and a few weeks ago I would have laughed at the idea of anyone using an ipod/phone as a serious piece of music equipment but programmes like this really do make it a worthy device. That and the shotgun application, which is fun.
