1. An unexpected bill means I'm reluctantly having to sell my Ibanez SR1205. It's in very good condition apart from a few very light marks that are only visible when viewed very close. There is a small ding on the headstock which I have pictured. The bass plays really well and all controls work as they should. Included is the Ibanez case it came with. Im happy to post if needed (at extra cost) but collection is preferred. Any questions, please ask. Price is £500
2. Thanks for the advice everyone. I bought the Yamaha F310 yesterday. It was in definite used condition but played and sounded extremely good. Much better than my Fender acoustic! It was a bargain at £15 too.
3. Thanks everyone. I'm going to see see a Yamaha F310 tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
4. Hi guys, A friend of mine is planning to learn guitar and have asked for my help to buy an acoustic. They're willing to spend a max of £100 and are happy to buy 2nd hand. Have you got any advice on brands to look at? I was thinking the likes of Yamaha, Cort and Ibanez but that's mainly based on my knowledge of their basses and electric guitars so would appreciate advice. I'm going to be trying out the guitar before buying. Thanks in advance.
5. Hi guys it's been a while since I last entered anything but I'm back, I'm afraid. :-) When I looked at the picture I got the impression that all the characters were in the midst of an aimless, meandering argument and were actually getting nothing done (having worked in the civil service and attended countless meetings that fit the above description probably contributed to my interpretation!). So I wrote a song around that idea. I'm so sorry about the vocals and lyrics - I cringe when I listen back to them - but they're the best I can do with my meagre(almost non existent) abilities in this field of expertise. EDIT I just noticed there's a little mild distortion on the vocals in places. Sorry.
6. Wow - what a player. Love that fill around the 2.05 mark!
7. Hi Guys! I'm thinking of moving over from traditional amp/pedals setup to Helix into FRFR cab but I have a few questions of you have the time? I haven' heard much about the envelope filter and octaves. Does it do a decent funk envelope filter? Will the octave be comparable to an OC2? Also is there a POG like octave up function? Also do you have any recommendations on a decent FRFR cab to run it through? Price is a factor for me, I'm afraid. Thanks for any help in advance. ☺️
8. Thepapabull - if your ever down Swansea I'm no luthier but I do my own set ups and am happy to have a look and see if I can get it playing better.
9.
Voted...Ricki1984, what a tone...loved it.
Thanks! :-) I'm glad you liked it.
10. Hi guys - it's been a while! Here's my entry entry for this month. It seems started off as a bass part I came up with while looking at the picture but it grew a bit away from that so my apologies! It was a bit of a rush job to get it done by the deadline (excuses over now!). I've hidden my sub par vocals behind a vocoder to save you at least some of the misery. https://soundcloud.com/rikki-boyes/way-of-life
11. I thought there was weird custom pickguard on it, then I realised I was your reflection taking the picture lol! GLWTS
12. Very early Sterlings did have that bridge with the mutes. Potential bargain there for someone.
13.
Wonderful bass, congrats! A rare one then Oh and Jeff is absolutely top notch. We e-chat often and he is always quick to help and will always do what he can.
I was really impressed with his response. Fantastic service - I'll recommend Dingwall to anyone who'll listen!
Good job you did not have that lying around when I took your Combustion off you! That is a great looking bass.
Cheers mate. That combustion is a great bass, I hope you're still enjoying it!
Stunning, mine will never leave me
Thanks! I've been through my fair share of basses over the years but I can't see this one going anywhere any time soon! :-)
14. Cheers guys. I'm loving it so far. Tone is so subjective but it sounds massive to me. All the different pickup configurations are distinct and useable. I just recorded a quick cover on it to give you a general idea of its overdriven tone. I'm not much of a pick player but I wanted to do a song to test the b string out and Periphery seemed an appropriate band. I'll try to record something clean if I have the time. Sorry for the extremely sloppy playing - I'm not really comfortable playing with a pick. https://youtu.be/pYSaFApuQGs
15. I've been looking for a good Dingwall Afterburner for a while now and finally one has cropped up on Ebay. It didn't sell initially but I sent the seller a message and we agreed on a price. It looks fantastic and is a joy to play. I had to sell a couple of basses to afford this but it was worth it. The even string tension really does make a difference. Its in virtually new condition apart from a couple of light marks on the bridge. It is fairly heavy (I'd guess 11-12lbs) but that's never been an issue to me. Before I messaged the seller I emailed Dingwall for any info they may be able to provide on the bass. They got back to me within 2 hours with following response. Great service considering they had nothing t gain from me buying a used instrument! Hello Rikki, this is what I can tell you: Model: ABHS (Heavy Solid), probably in the 11-13 lb range Body: Bubinga Top: Wenge Color: Natural Gloss Neck: Wenge Fingerboard: Macassar Ebony Electronics: Glockenklang 3-Band Preamp with Dingwall Rotary Pickup Selector Pickups: FD3 Hardware: Hipshot (custom made for Dingwall) Ship Date: Feb 10, 2014 This bass was the first ABHS built. This model is still available but you can no longer get it with bubinga. We don't use any woods that are on the CITES list and bubinga is one of them. Only 8 of this model has been produced at this point. Jeff Frey Dingwall Guitars I know - no pictures, no bass - so here you are! They really don't do it justice though.
