Welcome Dave! Hope you enjoy the community! Have to say, love Dallas - went out there about 10 years ago for a friend's wedding. Keep an eye out for Mike Gomez from RoomFour and say hi from me! Hows the gigging scene out there now?
I've joined up now, and all set to take part on Saturday.
Sweet, welcome to the community!

Yeah, the 5th/oct up harmony is quite a tempting setting. It's more the ease of having the mode-change switch built in. I like the whammy setup, but might have to look into some of the other pitch shifters out there.

Hi guys, anyone got experience with using one of these in a proper band setting? I've wanted to get a bass whammy for some time, but with the crazy prices they can go for I decided I'm not that much of a Tool fan-boy, and stuck with the Whammy IV. However, had a bad experience with an XP-100 with an Ebay purchase a while back. Won one for super-cheap price, which was awesome, but was underwhelmed by the tone of it compared to my Whammy IV. So, didn't really spend much time with it before selling it on. Bad news was that the guy I sold it too immediately opened the thing up and found that whoever had owned it before had tried to re-wire the thing (?!?!), and complained back to me. Fortunately, it didn't go any further than that, but I don't feel that I really got the best demo of the pedal that I could have. Anyone else got a better view on this pedal?

We may convince him to join up here yet, but i'll keep the shirt separate in case! Still get him to sign the gig diary i presume?

Already suggested ;-)

Good news everyone! Our headlining bassist for saturday is up for this too! The Baton may get two outings in one night!
Fair point, if you're in it for the money.
Money? You can earn money from music?!?!?

Just saw my favourite bassist live.....
iamtheelvy replied to fretmeister's topic in General Discussion
I knackered my fingers long ago trying to play too fast. Started playing with a pick till they got better. Now I alternate and pretty much play 50/50 fingers/pick. -
Their band is called Dead Horizon. That I can see, the bassist isn't here on BC, but you never know...
-
Hi guys, bit of a long shot possibly, but just wondering if there were any of the others from my year at LMS here on BC. There were only 5 of us enjoying the mushroom infested halls of Wapping, so Nico, Adam, Paul or Ruth, any of you out there still?
I've experimented a lot with balanced tension sets - mostly custom winds. The traditional compromise of string gauges is one of both tension (compliance really) and volume. I found that those sets that felt the most even in terms of compliance were counteracted by the fact that some strings were quieter than others - meaning you had to play them harder to get even volume! Obviously if you have a fancy-pants bass with individual pole adjustment (or a P-Bass) you can work this out to some degree, but otherwise (e.g.Jazz Bass, Musicman) you're left with the strings being uneven anyway. I'd be interested to see if these balanced tension sets are also balanced in volume... The aim is to be able to play consistently across all the strings with the same feel of compliance from the string and the same volume out of the Jack socket!
This was my immediate though also. I tend to stick to a 45-105 set, but do occasionally find the G, and sometimes D, strings a bit lacking compared to the E and A. A 50-105 set sounded more balanced output-wise, but felt a bit uneven under the fingers. I'd be worried with these strings (45-110 I think?) that whilst feeling good, they may fudge the tone a bit. Or we can just compress the hell out of them and have done...

Handover sorted! Bass will be making its second appearance at the Eastney Cellars in Pompey on Saturday night! Even got our guitarist to make a donation towards it already!
-
Hi guys, We're back on line! In the downtime, James and I have sorted the first handover! The BC Baton will be making its second appearance with my group Threesecondfool at the Eastney Cellars in Portsmouth this Saturday 23rd, at around 8.30ish. Trying to convince the headlining acts bassist to take it on too, but haven't heard back from him yet!

I don't mind sharing a rig with the other bassists on the bill, but I have to object a bit when I'm in a support slot, and the headliners decide that my rig is nicer than theirs...

I kinda like the cover...

Favourite Bassline YOU have written and recorded
iamtheelvy replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
My favourite was a song called 'Little Piece of Chicken' from years ago. It's by no means the best line that i've ever come up with, but it had a certain bounce that I've always liked. Plus the solos were epic: http://youtu.be/PX76GKo6EtY -
It's not huge, but I need to be able to carry it myself! Still packs a punch though!

Well, mrstheelvy said when we go married that I didn't have enough space for another guitar. So I didn't buy one. However, I did buy a guitar body...then a guitar neck... then a guitar bridge... then some tuners...then some pickups....
-
I use a little Gallien-Krueger 1x12 combo. It's really compact, only just bigger than the speaker, but puts out 150 watts, so is good enough for a gig. Have to turn the treble way down though (working with piezo pickups).
No one from here that signed up came down. Assuming I make it to LBGS I'll bring it with me and pass it on from there.
I was there, but had to leave early before you guys finished! Hopefully we'll get things sorted and it'll get its next gig soon!

We're in the Eastney Cellars on Saturday night. Loading in 6pm-ish. Doors are open 7.30ish, but it is ticketed.
-
Hey, I don't really have a free evening to pick it up from anywhere this week, but if it's still around Pompey at the weekend, I'd give a plunk for a song or two on Saturday.
-
I put mine close to the front of the chain (only after my tuner). Just evens out the signal between finger-style, pick playing and occasional slap, so the rest of the effects get a similar (or at least predictable) input level each time.

Open amp night sounds dangerous. Could such a gathering of bassists finally create the Brown Note? (Let's hope not, actually...)
