1. Always thought that I'd been sold a DB with a duff fingerboard til I read about this! It doesn't bother me, but can't see that it makes much improvement over a fully curved board...
2. Welcome from Portsmouth!
3. Curious about this also. It seems a simple, standardised modification, but nobody seems to make these for mass-sale. There are a few who offer customised ones for your bass, but the number of us that play standard Fenders, Warwicks etc etc, you'd have thought that someone would have picked up the market!
4. Hi Tony, Just seen your post! Welcome from another Pompey bassist (and Uni worker...)!
5. Chris Wolstenholme of Muse, of course...
6. Anything with JMJ playing. Or Juan Alderete. Or Mike Gordon. There's a few guys out there with larger than average pedalboards...
7. How far off are we from finding out the big news??
8. Hey guys, can't see it mentionned before - The relay's made it into this month's Bass Guitar Magazine! Don't get too excited, it's only a tiny little piece, but hopefully will draw a few more peeps in!
9. I've recently been using the Line 6 M5 for practice/little gigs and am very impressed. Yeah, the distortion models could do with more bass-specific models, or a blend control, but on the whole, I haven't really found a bad sound in it. I'm very much a pedalboard-full-of-single-pedals kinda guy, but the M13 is calling my name... Think ultimately the answer is - Multi FX AND lots of individual pedals...
10. Keep it moving along now guys and girls!
11. I do remember reading an article on a bass player (cannot remember who it was), who was raving about a Fender 60's reissue bass that he had 'modified'. Went something like this: 'I changed the tuners, the bridge, the pickups and the electronics! I even replaced the body...!' Now, correct me if I'm wrong here, but is that really the same bass anymore...?
12.
I've got the chords on mine. When anyone asks I just tell them I'm listening to Radio 4.
Hehehe, done that myself! 'Dave, Dave, DAVE!!' *Removes earplugs* 'What? I was just listening to something else...' '...?'
13. Arrggh!! WANT WANT WANT AND IT'S ONLY JUST DOWN THE ROAD!!!* *Bank account says no...
14.
They're are so invisible I can wear them without anyone knowing - which means around non-musician judgemental friends!
Yeah, what is that all about anyway? I know earplugs aren't exactly a fashion statement, but as far as I'm aware, being deaf has never been 'cool'... Sadly, most drummers I've known have been the worst offenders :-(
15. Another vote for Doc's Proplugs here - relatively cheap, but work great and are really comfortable. Also, not sure if this point has been made, but they aren't really visible from stage. Not that wearing earplugs should be considered a bad thing, but I personally prefer the low profile plugs rather than having a couple of bright sticks poking out of my ears!
16. I've been considering one of these for a super-small board. Pedaltrain nano with just the M5 and a Sansamp BDDI. I've got the One Spot daisy chain supply. With just these two pedals running, it can't get too noisy, can it?
17. A bit of a review from my experience: http://iamtheelvy.wordpress.com/2013/04/01/fishman-fission-powerchord-fx-pedal-review/
18. Sounds good! This bass might come out the end of this thing working better than when it started!
19. I think I hit a peak when I was singing, playing bass and playing midi pedals at the same time. Mind you, needed a lie down after...
20. For me, I think this applies across the board, muscially. I love a bit of shred every now and then, but give me a slow pentatonic blues solo over it any time!
21.
Is it safe to have this discussion? Is Inti/Antelope anywhere withing hearing distance...? Simple is good. But often it seems that we have to go through some kind of "life cycle" as a musician. You start off crap (obviously), but through practise and dedication start to get quite good. Some people stop there and are quite happy. Others aspire to more, so they practise harder and longer. Maybe learn theory. Maybe have lessons. They start to get seriously good, and start to demonstrate their expertise by playing all over the music that they play.... Some people are impressed... Then comes the "economy" stage. You know where the notes are, and how to play them. You may well have a commanding knowledge of technique and are skilled in various styles.... BUT (and that's a big but) you choose not to play them all the time! You are now a tasteful player and are a far more valuable commodity to bands and other musicians. For that reason, never judge a player by what they play. You have no idea what they can play!
I was going to post, but instead - this ^
22. Tried it, but just didn't get on with the tone. Selling it on!
23.
I don't particularly want to spend £300 on a bass whammy just for playing Tool stuff now and again
Sadly, you'd be pretty lucky to bag a Bass Whammy for £300
24. May have been beaten to it, but interested if it's still going!
25. I've played around with this technique for a while. problem I have is this: At a slow tempo, I'm pretty much even playing with two or three fingers. Build up the tempo though and I've found that three fingers are good for speed, but two for dexterity. Now, my question is this - work on building up the speed on two fingered playing or the dexterity of three?
