  1. Consider myself lucky to have played in all sorts of pub and club bands for the last 50 years. There are always nights when it seems a pain to load the car and drive to a gig but normally when I get to the venue and play it all seems worth while. I am still fascinated by the fact that I have somehow managed to get away with being in some good local bands with my minimal natural talent but admittedly a lot of hard work. One day there might be a time when I feel I have to stop but I hope that day does not come anytime soon.
  2. The sound I would like to get to is the one achieved by Burke Shelley of Budgie on the album Bandolier. I have other Budgie albums but the bass sound does not compare to Bandolier.
  3. Will be interesting to know how Lozz196 gets on with using the effects return, it made a real difference to my ears. Cannot imagine going back to in line. Having said that I guess it will depend on the amp being used.
  4. I have had the sansamp RBI rack mount unit for quite a while now. Was never really inspired by the live sound when using it in front of a mark bass lmb11 or an EBS hd350. After reading various threads on here I decided to try it going from the sansamp into the effects return on the Mark bass rather than the normal input. I have kept the Eq controls on the mark bass at zero. Still experimenting but think that I have found a sound that suits me, vaguely Nick seymour of crowded house or Colin moulding of the later period XTC albums. Now going from the sansamp into a parametric eq, LA Audio Eqx2, then into the effects return input on the mark bass. Will also try the sansamp into the effects return on the HD350 just in case I prefer it, but my guess will be that I will be staying with sansamp > LA audio Eqx2 > effects return of LMB11. Any advice, comments welcome and a big thank you to the posts on here that suggested using the effects return. ps has anyone else used the Eqx2?
  5. Have to agree with Lozz196. I recently watched a band in a local pub playing covers from the 60's and 70's, the band were good but the bass tone was one that really did not appeal, far too trebely, aggressive sounding and too loud. A few friends left the pub saying that they could not stand the bass volume or harsh sound. Maybe it is not so important to achieve a really good tone as it is to avoid having a really bad tone for the style of music that is being played. The type of music being played may well be the most important factor in determining the tone we should be aiming for.
  6. I have been using flats for the past 15 plus years. What started out as an experiment resulted in all of my basses having flats, TI Jazz flats, fitted. I now find it most uncomfortable playing a bass with round wound strings. I guess I am hooked and will just have to live with it. In my opinion the older the strings get the better they seem to sound, my 1977 Precision has a set that are over 10 years old. I don't play slap but would guess that these are not ideal for that style, if you like a more vintage bass sound, something like 60's Motown, Paul McCartney etc then it is probably worth giving them a go. i did fit a set of labella tapewound to a Brandoni accoustic bass and I'm rather pleased with them at the moment, but not pleased enough to change fron flats on the various electric basses.
  7. No gig on that day so will come along. Not sure I have anything to bring that would be of interest but will have a think.
  8. These are great cabs. I use two of them with either the reidmar or the HD350 depending on my mood. Good luck with the sale.
  9. I must admit this is my favourite. I bought one of these new in 1976, there is just something about the natural wood, black scratch plate and maple neck that looks so great. Mine now shows lots of wear but I don't care, it's great. Good luck with your search
  10. Colin Moulding is a great bass player. Never seems to over play, and usually a great tone. Try any of the mid to late XTC to hear just how good
  11. Are you interested in trade for USA deluxe 4 string jazz?
