  2. Interesting that you favour the GK so much Keith. As Geoff said, there's a fan club too on Talkbass. My problem is that the MB200 would no way cut it against the 14 piece full-blown Rattlin Bone and i really only want one amp.   4. Thanks Gareth, I did think about that - thats a great deal! Also the Markbass LMTube 800 which has a ton of power and the option to dial in or out the tube preamp

[/quote] Thanks Monckyman, thats the head that was in my old Markbass CMD121P combo which did indeed work really well for both. I wonder whether the F1, which I know when launched was described by many as cleaner and less than warm than a LMII, is better or worse suited to DB????
  7. I just met Kev who handed over his lovely Ibanez Affirma bass to me. Very good buying experience. Lots of info upfront and a friendly and interesting guy to chat to as well.   9. Hmmm, thus far I am getting the message not to sell my Acoustic Image head, after all! Edit: and in response to your question Geoff, I found the EA Doubler had a slightly synthetic (compressed?) sound to it compared with AI, noticeably less 'natural' sounding with my double bass. I know loads swear by this amp though (I got pretty shot down on TalkBass when I criticised it) so it could have been the combination of the bass, the piezo pickup and the amp between them that just didn't work for me, rather than specifically the amp.
  10. Thanks gents. I used to have a Mesa WA combo but my recollection was that its very warm and tubey, which might sound good with DB in a bigger band with drummer etc but I would have thought would not be acousticky enough for an acoustic small band? Great for electric bass, undoubtedly though

I am trying to sell my over-spec'd Acoustic Image head (notch filters, phase switch, different room ambients and EQ are all provided by my LR Baggs venue DI pedal so I effectively end up with these functions twice in my signal chain!). i want to replace it with a simpler (and cheaper) head that can be used equally for electric and double bass. The requirements are that it be: - compact and light - powerful enough for rock gigs (signal chain: SFX preamp > head; or no preamp at all) - sonically very clear (ie, uncoloured) for use with DB (signal chain: LR Baggs preamp > head) - which rules out lots of amps - high quality Based on having owned a Markbass CMD121P combo, I reckon the MarkBass F1 fits the bill nicely. I did own an EA Doubler but didn't like the DB-specific features (notch/phase etc) which didn't sound as good as my Acoustic Image Clarus. However, the EA Micro is a more straightforward head, without the DB functions that are superfluous to me, and may fit the bill too. Any thoughts here, ladies and gents?

  15. Contra cab sold pending. So that leaves the Clarus+ head at £750 plus post, or bundled with my Acme Low B2 cab for £1,000 but this would have to be collected as I have no box for the latter.

  17. I got this recently from BC'er Soliloquy. Its the 8 ohm version of Acme's rarely-seen (at least in the UK) and much-praised Low B2 cab and is in very good condition. While it has superb hi-fi like clarity - making it wonderful for double bass and those who prefer totally uncoloured sound - I just don't think it has quite the volume capabilities I am after, as I was looking for a cab to double between electric and DB. Having A/B'd them properly in the past week, its not as loud for example as my Wizzy 12" 4 ohm cab. These cost over £500 to import from the US, after shipping and import duties, and I will let this go at the £300 I paid*.     Flippin eck- bargain! I beat V&R down from £1850 (I think) to £1600, ended up selling at my usual loss for £1300 and not much more than a year later and still in fabulous nick £1100. Someone snaffle this, its lovely
  19. Actually lets call the Clarus+ head £750 as it has been gigged regularly (not that you can see any scars, scrapes or dings; it is still in fabulous condition) but the cab stays at £350 as its never even left my house. £50 discount if you take both
  20. I have them on the Kolstein bass that Keith (Mr_Bassman) sold me and I really like them. Nice low tension but more growl than my previously-favoured Innovation Silver Slaps. I see them as the TI flats of DB strings!

  24. Its the case that really reeks - I had one old Fender where the hard case honked so much it had to be sprayed in Febreze and left in the open air to even become approachable. Before that it was like sniffing a sweat-drenched ashtray
  25. And another bump! This is serously useful as a feedback fighter for DB as well as a PA speaker
