1.
+1 to that, although I confess to having both on the same bass on the belt and braces principle. Never had to use the mag though.
this is exactly my plan too
2. I just put a Kent Armstrong mag p/u on my Kolstein bass tonight. Its got a great woody and deep sound to it, which means it will work well in my noisy up-to-14-piece band, and of course it will not feed back. Sonically though its not as nice as piezo p/u (like a BassMax, Underwood, Shadow or Planet Wing) through a good clean amp as the piezo picks up all those lovely buzzes and growls that are the hallmark of a 'real' DB sound. The piezo of course will feed back like a mutha if you go loud and aren't very careful with amp/preamp settings and cab placement. Horses for courses but I am glad I now have the choice of both p/u's on my Kolstein as it means I can now gig it in all circumstances.
3. Just bought a MarkBass amp off Gareth. Super well packed and arrived exactly when he said it would. Latest in a series of excellent deals with Gareth

Just a quickie to say Pete bought a GK MB200 head from me. Was unfailingly friendly in his communications and paid superfast. Excellent all-round experience

6.
hehe, I've a softspot for pre Fender SWR, and I'd love an Electric Blue if I could find one
BC'er Chris Kelly (chrkelly) is selling a Baby Blue combo for not a whole lot of moolah (£320) on the forum, Gwilym .. and he's in London too Here's the link: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165627-original-swr-baby-blue-combo/page__p__1515842__hl__baby%20blue__fromsearch__1#entry1515842
7. Another slightly earlier classic - more of a song than a funky bass workout but good nevertheless http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlXKfFPx7po&feature=related
8. Great bass line from Ready Freddie Washington http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2XhhuM9GZo Another one I tried unsuccessfully to get the lovely laydeez to dance with me to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zu5xfnUz7c0&feature=related
9. Sorry to hear last year was a bad'un Laurence I still have the Clarus+ head I bought from AI (Europe) via your good self and its the best amp I've ever heard for DB .. as well as identical to the one in your Ten2 combo.
10. Wayne is going to mug you
11. Maybe put the cab on doubled over carpet ( better still an Auralex Gramma pad) and position cab near wall pointing in to the wall or a corner so the sound is part absorbed by the wall and not bouncing around so much?
12. Nice one mate. OK to call tomorrow night?
13. Thanks Gareth, it's certainly a high for me after a death metal band that foundered as soon as we got decent gigs, due to drummer quitting, and then a punk band that routinely played to audiences of less than 30! More seriously, I really like the music we now play and have learned an awful lot about musicianship, recording etc. Whether we go places remains to be seen - as you know the odds are heavily stacked against it - but it will be fun trying. Our Portugal mini-tour last year was tremendous Spinal Tap type fun and I imagine the Hamburg gig will be a laugh too, especially if we can get some gigs either side
14. Sold pending!
15. PM coming
16. Read about how much people love this amp: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/165637-gallien-krueger-mb-200-cant-believe-how-good-it-sounds/page__hl__mb200 PS, I am in London and can hand over the amp for a tenner less than the stated FS price (ie £170)
17. Very cool bass. I remember A Certain Ratio playing one of these in the early 80s. Good luck with the sale!
18. If you can play root-fifth in the lower positions you can gig it mate! Pretty much all I do
19. I think Gareth Hughes uses some kind of stomp pedal (maybe a Boss tuner) as an impedance matching device, so that I don't think you need a proper DB preamp. I'd drop him a PM, could save you a bundle if only for home use. However, if/when you start gigging you will have to invest in a Fishman or similar to help control the feedback and tone issues that inevitably come from playing at higher volumes and in variable rooms
20. How about the GK MB112 combo - features the MB200 head electronics in a 1x12 combo? And only £240 at BassDirect http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/GK_Combos.html
21. Spinal Tap re-forming? The 'Smell the glove 20 years on' tour?
22. Ps, would do a very good deal if anyone wanted to buy the head together with my Acme Low B2 2x10 cab (which I had on sale for £280), although this would require collection/meet-up as I don't have a box for the cab.
23. I bought this amp with a view to a having a compact plug-and-play head for my double bass (which would also sound good with electric bass) after seeing lots of rave reviews on TalkBass and BassChat. Unfortunately, while it sounds ace for electric bass (see the thread stated by Nottswarwick), try as I might (shifting pickup etc) I can only get a decent sound out of it with DB with a preamp placed in front - which is not really why I bought it. Thanks to Keith (Mr_Bassman), Roger (Bassace) and others who are happy with their MB200 for DB and who made helpful suggestions about how to improve the sound but maybe I'm just an incompetent - or my DB and pickup combination just didn't work with it. I am going back to a MarkBass F1 amp instead, which I know worked for me with DB before (and has more oomph for electric bass), and putting this up for sale. It cost me £206 a week ago from SoundsLive http://www.soundsliv...p_Head/GK-MB200 and I will do for £180 posted (in original packaging). Its in pristine nick so here's a stock pic
24.
i guess it figures that your swamp blues collective while already including zombies, would also have a few vampyres!
The backing singers are called The Vampirettes!
25. 6 September in Hamburg at the USB Festival any good, Jack? We've only just gone live with promoters so starting to get offers. We will be playing the Gloucester festival on 3 June but thats the only other definite so far
