1.
I'm here, but you might want avoid 4:00 pm - 5:45 pm! How big is the Acme?
Its a 2x10 with dimensions 23"H x 15.75"W x 16.5"D, which in cm is around 57.5 x 38 x 41
2.
French or German pattern? Makes a difference how you hold the bow and the bass. If you stand with the bass sideways on you probably need a French. If you sit or stand behind the bass you might like the German style.
Thanks Keith, I didn't realise that Jack would happily hand back my old (basically unused) bow. I have an audition coming up and the intro to a couple of songs requires long arco strokes on the E and A strings. I stand sideways on so I guess that makes it French
3. That v kind Jack, deal! I am driving to Ealing this afternoon - are you around? BTW, you don't happen to have a large box for shipping a cab as well - long shot - a guy want s me to ship my Acme cab but I cannot find a box of the right size
4. I would drop Beedster a PM
5. I am going to have a go at arco but am without a bow. The ones on the web seem to be generally ultra-cheap or eye-wateringly expensive. Does anyone have an OK bow in good shape, preferably with quiver and rosin (as I'm too lazy to source everything separately!) Up to £100 budget (obviously the cheaper the better, as long as OK quality). Can do paypal or bank transfer
6. Thats a beauty. Rarely ever see these come up for sale and seems like a really good price too. Good luck with the sale
7. I voted "I don't really practice much, but I'm in a band that plays live". Two qualifications, I noodle a hell of a lot (maybe an hour a day), rather than practice (I find just holding a bass and farting around on it therapeutic). And I just quit my band!
8. My main gripe actually is that the black version just looks a bit crap. That is all
9. I popped along for an hour (I live nearby, Hammersmith way) and the volume wasn't as bad as last year but still intrusive enough to mean you couldn't really have a conversation without craning your neck and saying pardon every so often. I bumped into Dood, Wes (wesfinn), Mark from BassDirect, Barrie (Molan) and Phil (born2bmild) at Bassgear, Alan (skelf) of ACG guitars. TBH, nothing particularly floated my boat purchase-wise, although there were some v nice instruments and rigs there (ACG have some beautiful builds in particular).
10. And I've seen Jon's - its tons nicer!
11. I thinks the price issue relates to two things: (1) the absolute level is up in hand-built luthier territory (which is an issue with all CS Fenders) and (2) could it be a more basic plank? There is nothing about that bass that screams expensive parts/build, albeit I bet it sounds great ... just probably no better than a Squier VM 50s Precision
12. There can't be that many ZZ Top tribute bands to sell this to. I don't see who else would pay that price
13. Sorry but you have to state a price too (forum rules). Good luck, it looks a beauty Edit: aha, I see a price on your online album of £1750 but it would be a good idea to post it in the OP or the title
14. I posted this in your other thread - should help http://basschat.co.uk/topic/48665-deglossing-a-neck/page__p__487629__hl__grit%20neck__fromsearch__1#entry487629
15. here you go http://basschat.co.uk/topic/48665-deglossing-a-neck/page__p__487629__hl__grit%20neck__fromsearch__1#entry487629
16. Blast from the distant past - lovely guitar playing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rmDAVvrQnkA
17. Lovely matey. Any chance of a full bass picture? Glad you are chuffed as a chuffed thing
18. This may be on its way to Scandinavia if I can get hold of a suitably sized, robust box
19. My trio - 1981 Wal Mk1 fretless, Fender 1963 Precision, Alleva Coppollo KBP5
20. Was probably Hooky that turned me on to the possibilities of bass back in about 1980-ish - Joy Division's bass lines (notably Disorder, Transmission, She's Lost Control, and Decades) and New Order's Ceremony converted me from a guitar player
21. John bought my super-light Ibanez Affirma and was very patient sorting out an earthing issue that had arisen with one of the pickups of which I had been unaware. I am very pleased he now has the bass he thought he was getting and I can - like all above - thoroughly recommend him as a good guy to do business with
22. More seriously I'd be on for attending but I'm not really up for organising as I have too much on my plate at work etc and have overloaded on stress recently (won't go into details) I do foresee a geographic issue with the likes of Mr_Bassman up in Harrogate, TheRev in Bristol, bassace in Oxfordshire (IIRC), you, I and Jake in various parts of the South East, not to mention the various other BassChat DBers scattered across the country. Probably needs to be somewhere north of London but not too far north to rule out the SE brigade
23. Makes sense - the most cr@p DB player on BassChat! Sorry but I am washing my hair for the foreseeable future
24. I'm sure a big part of my perennial chopping and changing is that I'm not actually very good at bass ('solid' is probably the best description of my abilities) and its easy to think that A.N.Other bass will make me play better. I suspect a lot of us on this site address our own feelings of inadequacy by chopping and changing, especially as (as noted above) the BassChat for sale forum makes it so easy to do.
25. Yep, for that read about Chet Baker - pretty boy trumpeter, got heavily into heroin, lost his front teeth in drug-related beatings, lost his looks completely and ended up dead having fallen out of his apartment window on to the street below, cause unknown.
