  1. Reckon you will enjoy the Mustang, Loz. With La Bella Mustang flats, my old one sounded sufficiently close to a Precision in my country punk band that I doubt anyone in the audience would have noticed the difference sound-wise. Example: VID-20191214-WA0002.mp4
  2. Actually, call it £75 posted. Who's arguing a fiver between friends? Save 25% for just a couple of hour's use
  3. Seconded. The only time I had to adjust the bridge slots (or nut) was when I swapped to massive gauge guts. Any steel string should work on your bridge. FWIW, I had great success with Spiro Solos 3/4 tuned to EADG (aka orchestral) when I had Spiros as the tension was very easy on my hands and they still had that characteristic growl. I believe Miroslav Vitous uses the same and he has a wonderful tone. See here
  4. I bought this to see if I could handle the weight of my >10 pound Jazz bass. Unfortunately, I just don't like a strap on each shoulder, feels wrong to me after 40 odd years of playing with the bass resting on my left shoulder. Take advantage of my experimentation. Cost me close to £100 from Gear4Music (most retailers are out of stock, G4M just put its price up today to £98 plus post). Yours for £75 including post within UK. Received Saturday, for sale Monday and a couple of hour's home use only.
  5. So the Gruv Gear Duostrap just feels odd to me: 40-odd years with a strap slung over one shoulder is just too ingrained in me. The bass is back up for sale
  6. Fair do's. Horses for courses and all that. I would rather have a Hipshot bridge, handmade woodworking and modern neck fretting technology etc ... but its all academic given the price. $3,700 plus $200 shipping plus c.20% VAT/import duty equates to just over £3,800 at today's dollar/£ exchange rate.
  7. Not me. But, given my shameful record, a reasonable guess!
  8. Sanity check: you are Old Horse Murphy. Nah!
  9. I spent an hour this afternoon playing the bass and its fabulous in all respects bar the weight .... actually nicer than my old Precision ... hence my last chance saloon attempt to see if I can cope with >10 lb. We will see
  10. I am going to put this on Hold for a day or so as I have just ordered a Gruv Gear Duostrap to see if I can cope with a 10.2 pound bass if I have straps on both shoulders. If this experiment doesn't work out I will restore this to full sale (and probably end up selling the Gruv Gear strap at my usual BC loss!) So, for those interested in the bass, please give me a day or two's grace!
  11. The original documents that come with this bass. Please note: I might be able to post, although it could well work out at £30+ given the dimensions
  12. Saw Lizzo at O2 this evening. Did not expect her to start one song with the opening of Yes' Heart of the Sunrise. See here (not my video) from an earlier gig on the tour

    1. NikNik

      NikNik

      How cool is that??

  13. My bad its 3.5". Works well though https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0B9MT2WP2?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
  14. Some additional pics of the neck taken this morning. The action at the 12th fret (from crown of the fret to underside of E string) is just under 3mm, the same as on my Precision with TI flats.
  15. * Background: I bought this on the forum earlier this year but it turned out to be way too heavy for my glass back at 10.18 pounds, despite looking fabulous and playing/sounding beautifully with TI flats on. I sold it on eBay but then had to refund the buyer as the neck went bowed with higher tension roundwound strings than the TI flats. He took the bass to a luthier who added a washer to rectify the recessed truss rod nut but declared that the truss rod is broken and needs replacing. Subsequently, the BCer who sold this to me said that his luthier had checked the bass before selling and given it a clean bill of health. I believe the BCer sold the bass to me in good faith and have no reason to doubt his version of events. Having taken the bass back I have since tested the truss rod with higher tension flats (Dunlop 45-105) and, while the neck is certainly quick to bow after swapping from TI flats, the truss rod nut does appear to tighten the neck to compensate, so that medium/low action is possible: I cannot see that this would be possible if the truss rod was completely broken. Its now back to wearing TI flats again, with the truss rod adjusted for the lower tension, and plays really nicely - as before. * So .... I am selling as is, on the assumption the neck is viable and does not need replacing (which may well be correct based on one of two luthiers and my testing). If a potential buyer is a fan of a Jazz-with-TI-flats combination I am very confident they will like this bass. However, (1) I have further reduced the price given the disputed history and (2) I would like the buyer to be fully satisfied with what they have, so will send on a trial basis with payment only in the event the buyer is happy. As before it comes in very 1990s fugly but protective hard case. Collection SW London, south of Hammersmith Bridge, or deliver within UK at cost (which I will cover until the buyer confirms he/she is happy and then add to the total price). If the buyer is unhappy and returns the bass, I will cover both courier costs and punch myself in the face. Can't say fairer than that! Edit: obviously this offer applies only to UK-based BCers with a decent amount of positive feedback! Also, the bass will come with a padded, neoprene 3.5" wide strap which I bought to help distribute the weight on my shoulder better.
  16. You would be hard pressed to find an EUB of this quality for the money. If more background info is required, here is the 32 page (!) mega thread on Azola EUBs on TalkBass https://www.talkbass.com/threads/azola-eubs-megathread.367975/
  17. Messages crossed, ha! Yep, I am now sure you have a custom ordered Persuader with Spoiler pickup arrangement. Bet it sounds lush!
  18. Think I have figured this out. The Spoiler has a Q switch and 2 control knobs, whereas your bass has 3 control knobs, like the Persuader. I reckon someone custom ordered a Persuader with Spoiler pickup arrangements.
  19. I have no doubt you are correct about about the serial number. Just seems odd as I have only ever seen Persuaders with a PJ (and rarely JJ) configuration and Spoilers with the dual AXY pickups. Here are some marketing ads from Alembic in the 1990s. Doesn't actually matter much of course as its a lovely bass!!!! Again, GLWYS
  20. Thats a Spoiler, not a Persuader. Fabulous bass! GLWYS Edit: it is in fact a Persuader! See discussion below. Apologies!
