1. Nice one Jack. I bet that sounds utterly amazing for [s]slap bass[/s] retro loveliness
2. When I play any bass in my sitting room with an amp there's an annoying hum. If I move the amp elsewhere in the house it disappears. It can be due to the electrical wiring surrounding you where you are playing, rather than to the bass itself. Is this a possibility? If not, agreed -go straight back to the shop
3. I can vouch for smaz. Very friendly comms and unquestioningly paid upfront for the Fender A/E fretless I am handing over to him tomorrow. Looks a great deal!
4. Piezo-friendly DI for double bass (and other acoustic instruments). Selling as I've not actually had cause to use it yet as I prefer a DI with EQ options (eg PlatPro). About £75 new and so i will sell it, in completely unused, mint condition for £60 posted Specs here at Thomann http://www.thomann.d...eering_sb_4.htm This was discussed in a thread wot I started and Happy Jack reported back very positively with his StageBug SB-4 http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2136488
5. Selling a set of Danny Thompson 3/4 Elitist strings which are a chunky £145 new http://www.basscentr...ss-strings.html These are in OK but not pristine condition (the silks seem very fragile and are slightly frayed but not badly so) but have had barely any playing time. I got them from Greg Cordez who owned them only briefly and I had them on my bass for a few weeks only before going back to growlier Spiro Mittels. £[s]80[/s] 75 posted. * PRICE CUT TO £70 POSTED AS I HAVE TOO MANY STRINGS SITTING AROUND!
6. I just bought a set of Pyramid flats for my Jazz bass, put them on and immediately removed as I prefer the softer feel of Lakland Jo Osborn flats. They've been on my bass for a matter of a couple of hours and are 100% as-new, bar me clipping the very long E/A string silk ends slightly for a Fender 4-a-side headstock. These work out at £29 plus post from Thomann, taking it to over £30 to buy (they are £44 at Stringbusters!). So how about £25* posted, a 25%+ saving for a couple of hours use? For those unfamiliar, these are very retro sounding flats (as used by Jefferson Airplane at end-60s etc) and are ideal for blues, reggae and old school Motown. They do not do bright and zingy! http://www.thomann.d...8c3083bebcb74ab * it says £24 at top of page but I typed this in error and cannot edit this. The price is £25 for avoidance of doubt, including UK post
7. Yes, the Mini CMD 121P works very well for both DB and electric bass and - as others have noted - is pokier than the GK (which I have also owned). I prefer the MarkBass by a substantial margin. The only downside is the MarkBass is heavier and - as a cube - slightly more awkward to carry
8. Erm, history repeating itself ^^^. Another service station amp meet/deal!!!!!! As ever Roger was a total gent
9. BassDirect have one for £1600 and you would expect a premium for a retailer as opposed to a private seller (due to their rates etc). So £1500 as a starting point, makes sense to me too http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Warwick_Thumb_NT5_FL.html
10.
Good on you Clarky! I know Roy: he's a very good guy.
I mentioned you to Roy (as you are an Edinburgh based BC'er) and he said he knew you veRy well too, Roberto
11. Lodekka, aka Roy, bought my Kolstein Busetto travel bass. Very friendly guy and excellent bass player who travelled all the way from Edinburgh to view the bass. Recommended
12. Sold to Edinburgh pro bassist (and nice chap to boot) Roy Percy (aka lodekka)
13.
Hurrah :-)
Indeed. These are truly wonderful basses but fall into the 'special interest' category. The buyer has played another BCer's A/E fretless and enjoyed it muchly so all ends well
14. Bill aka Hathernman bought a set of high-quality DB strings off me which will hopefully make his EUB odyssey that much more enjoyable Oh and the whole deal was excellent as others have noted above
15. Sold pending usual gubbins
16. On hold for smaz, so potentially sale pending
17.
Don't tell her, she'll probably never notice. If she asks; "Is this new?" Look at her incredulously (but don't over do it) and just say "no, I've had that one for years."
interesting, the missus has used exactly that line with me with regard to shoes and handbags
18. I'm near Hammersmith, work nr Liverpool Street
19. Yep, easier on the hands as less pressure when plucking. Downside is looser strings mean slightly higher action
20. Bump from sunny Copenhagen!
21. These strings are the most highly recommended on TalkBass for Baby Bass electric upright basses. So I would guess they work well for most EUBs. Very low tension but with the trademark Spirocore growl. I just preferred the Jargar soft strings that were already on the bass which I have used for a couple of years gigging on and off (I sold the bass in between times then bought it back!)
22. I think there's one lady that sends out the strings and it can be haphazard. I have had them two days after ordering and another set a week after ordering
