1. They added some basses to the new arrivals page only 3 days ago, so I guess its just a problem with the telephone line. Try emailing, they generally respond in a few hours in my experience
2. Hoping to get along to this, as I believe is Nige/xilldx. Any other BC'ers fancy hooking up?
3.
Would Thomastik JF344 4-String Jazz Flatwound 43-100 long scale be the cheese?
aye, them be the ones. I even recall Big John H recommending them on the Rick forum
4. ROCK! Nice colour Sean. IIRC older Ricks are recommended to use TI Flats (they being best tension wise for the idiosyncratic necks and truss rods - I got this from the * hushed voice * Rick forum * oops I said it)
5. Early 80's 62 reissue in seafoam green - never seen one in this colour before. Looks mint (groan). Seriously beautiful but surely at least £500 (if not £1000) over-priced? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1986-Fender-Jazz-Bass-Seafoam-Green-62-Reissue-Stack-Knob-/400659847515?pt=Gitarren&hash=item5d4930195b
6. You will not find a lighter better made passive Precision, Dougal
7. Its the same bass and seller
8. Loved them back in the day, esp their debut album Affectionate Punch. My very first band (1979-82) used to cover A matter of gender. Such a tragedy that Billy Mackenzie committed suicide
9. Bought a DB pickup from Harry. All good! Cheers mate
10.
Due to being in Sevilla I am struggling
But not struggling to eat tapas and drink some nicely chilled fino I trust? Well jel On topic, I too will take a listen Jas
11. should work with any barrel jack as long as you specify the size (eg neutrik locking barrels are larger in diameter and need the bigger plastic loop whereas a standard Switchcraft type barrel needs the smaller loop) Bassace uses Underwood pickups and nmakes his own equivalent to the Lando clamp. See here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/204392-jack-socket-attachment-to-db-tailpiece/page__p__2124394__hl__clamp__fromsearch__1#entry2124394
12. Let them know its for a Shadow as they do two different sized plastic loops, depending on jack barrel type. Incidentally they actually do a neat mod for a Shadow (if you look on their website) and put a proper Switchcraft jack on.
13. this? http://www.kontrabass-atelier.de/pickups_e.html#clamp Or BC'er Roger (username bassace) makes a neat version with a wingnut and plastic clamp for not very much moolah
14. I believe Lee Rocker has used Jargar Dolce/light steels in the past. They are Danish made strings that are very dark and thumpy (not much sustain) and are pretty low tension. http://www.jargar-strings.com/
15.
My soul remains intact... For the time being.
16. Bert bought my Alembic Brown Bass. Thoroughly nice chap and a bloody sight better bass player than me - much better suited to an Alembic than my Fender-and-flats toting self! Enjoy that beauty, Bert!
17.
4 years I've lusted over this bass. So much for down to two basses
Incorrigible Such a good word! And yes no mention to me of pot, kettle etc
18. £20 for unlimited adverts is bl**dy cheap compared to the c.10% fees on eBay/Paypal and gets you a specialist bass audience, many of whom have really helpful feedback threads to help with the trust side of things - and if its a low value item (less than £50) it costs you nothing to advertise Up to you
19. Hi Jake you may be confusing this with the SC signature models? The Brown Bass comes as standard with pick up selector dial and Anniversary electronics (similar to a Series 1), you can see the differences in the BassCentral SC page http://www.basscentral.com/alembicbass/stanley.shtml
20. Paul, thank you but worry not. The chap concerned is going to make the trip over from the West country to London to check the bass out in person (understandable given its value)
21. I am going to put this on hold for a couple of days, pending a viewing that is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday evening
22. Thanks gents! I have an aversion to ParcelForce after they utterly trashed (and left out in the pouring rain, despite covered porch 5 yards away) a box containing an EUB that I sent to Beedster a few months ago. Oh and they forged his signature too
23. Hmmm, OK thanks. I got the bass all the way from Australia uninsured and was happy with that as it was in a hard case in a cardboard box and then sheathed in layers of bubble wrap. I may just offer the same option to the other BCer
24. I have been asked for an insured courier quote for my Alembic bass by a BCer. On the Interparcel website their services only allow insurance up to £1,000 but the bass is worth £3k, so does anyone know of a courier service that will insure up to the latter amount? I have sent a number of high value basses before and never had to insure them - thankfully with no problems - so I am not sure whether such a service exists Thanks Clarky
