I use a plugin that I designed. It's like a looper effect but more organic, the sound that's 'looped' gradually fades out. I dislike loopers, they're either on or off, playing or not. I used it with bass for quite a few solo gigs, including with Steve Lawson last year. At the moment I'm using it more with piano, synth and electroacoustic sounds. This was done last night with it, I have a gig in Amsterdam at the weekend, this is an excerpt of a practice for that.

I use Logic Pro for my live set up. I've done many solo gigs on bass with it, It's quite easy to add other instruments too; piano and synth etc.

The hardest thing might be the drummer; what’s his timing like?

That’s my thought. Personally I wouldn’t trust technology to do what I can do by playing a fret lower.

Just play them a semi-tone down then?

I’ve not really watched any tbh. I will say though that Mark is an excellent player. Personally I’ve never really seen the point in videos like that. It’ll sound different anyway when you play it, you’ll be playing through your amp, your choice of strings and set up. All it shows is how Marcus or whoever sounds when videoed on an iPhone, uploaded onto YouTube and listened back to on a phone, laptop or tablet.

Live at the blue note is good too. I spent I don’t know how many hours transcribing AJs lines from that a few years ago.

Balancing personal life with band life is always difficult. I teach music to children and wouldn't dare have my iPhone out during a lesson, some schools actually ban them because of the camera. I do generally have time to check texts and emails in between lessons and during breaks though.

Utter nonsense about not playing past the 5th fret. That's actually where I do most of my playing.

It works on my iPhone. There was a post yesterday about adverts, I posted a screenshot there of what I see; just two tiny rectangular boxes at the very top of the screen.

Even if that work is being used to make someone else money? If it’s used on an advert, in a film, even commercial radio is there to make the owners of the station money, so surely the owner of that music i.e the composer or songwriter or both should be paid for its use.
