I've only tried the couple, one being the Markbass Traveler 121h, but I'm trying to plan ahead so I can get the most out of one visit to a specific shop. It's a bit o fa treck.
That's a sensible plan. Might be worth checking to see if there's a bass bash local to you.

Have you tried any cabs yet? If not, grab your amp & bass & go try some.

Arghh Markbass 210 or 410 as extension to Lm3+102
xgsjx replied to citymariner's topic in Amps and Cabs
It's best to find the cab that you like & then add another the same if you need more decibels. The STD 102 is a bigger cab than the traveller, allowing it to audibly produce a bit more depth to the lows (aka it goes lower in the Hz). -
Here's my entry. I saw a bunch of Russians having an after party get together. Has the guy on the far right of the main crowd got an extra long smoke, and did it get passed to him from the smaller gathering that's just below him? They look wrecked! So... The Retreat. https://soundcloud.com/xgsjx/the-retreat Had I more time, I would have liked to added more lyrical ramblings & messed about with effects.

Did the manager realise that when e venue fills up, the band will sound a lot quieter? If the person can make or break gigs for you, work with them, if they can't, then do as you please. I played a beer festival several years ago where we were the only band (well, there was 2 bands, but I was the bassist in both). A woman & her 2 kids sat right at the front, about 8 foot from the front of my rig. First song & she said "you're way too loud, can you turn it down". I explained that she was sat right in front of the speakers & moving to a different table would be much quieter. She wasn't happy, so I turned down a little. Another song in & the organisers came over and asked us to turn up, a lot. She wasn't happy & complained to the organisers who then gave her a nice seat at the back. At the end of the first break, she came over & complimented the band.

Mine's almost done. Hopefully get it posted in the next couple of days.

Did the shop fob you off regarding the LM3 or did they send it to MarkBass?

I thought you was going to talk about using a pick & fingers together. Some songs suit fingers, some pick & some even suit a bit of slap (I kid you not). Use whatever works & laugh at the ignorance of those who diss using more than 1.

Most Abba songs. I can't fault the songwriting, but the overall finished songs make me want to vomit. Ironically, I went & saw Mamma Mia in the cinema & thoroughly enjoyed it! Must be the original vocals that do it.

No More Nails? Should stick it solidly. Another option would be heavy duty Velcro. You'll be surprised what this can hold.

If you've got good musicians, jamming can be great fun & very rewarding. It's a good way to practice techniques in a band situation & some Great songs start life as a jam. If there's a singer/musician that you can follow, then that makes things easy. It can help to take a couple of simple songs to deconstruct (Use Me by Bill Withers is a great jamming track as it's just a groove over 2 chords). The important part... Have Fun

You're in a good place to find out about fx. You'll learn a lot just from reading posts. Re the OC3, an octave up would have been a good feature for it. If I went back to playing live, I'd most likely go for another OC3 or even an OC2 with dirt & low pass filter after it. Altenitavely, I'd go for some ipad apps & a usb pedal board.
Don't tell Martin Peterson, he only charges £100 for that. And he doesn't charge extra for fretlessness.
Sei basses are very nice. I considered one a couple of years ago. I've not played a Sei, nor a Fodera (let alone the one in question), but I would still imagine that someone wanting an instrument like the Fodera isn't going to be looking at Sei or Sadowsky.

You can do the same with the OC-3. It has a dry out & a wet out. I split the signal after the octave with a bass Murf so it was all -1 octave & then split to different effects.

How do you store/transport your cables/leads?
xgsjx replied to Mornats's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've got a large laptop carry bag that has 3 compartments on the main body & a further 2 on the lid. I think it was designed for carrying 2-3 laptops. You'd be surprised at what's in it. Not just all my cables, but spare strings & parts, tools for instruments, a set of wireless headphones with the transmitter and 2 microphones. -
I had an OC-3. Was mostly used 100% wet 1 octave down & played up the neck. Good pedal for sounding like an analogue synth.
Sigh. Retailer is being non-commital on the phone - "we only offer 12 months", then referred me to an email contact page on their website. Anyone know who the UK distributor is for MarkBass?
Retailers will usually take that stance. Have you got legal cover with your home insurance? If not, then the CAB should be your next stop. Sale of goods act States that your contract is with the seller, not the manufacturer & products must be sold in a Fit for Purpose condition. So if you expect a bass amp to last more than a year, then it has been a faulty part. However, MarkBass are helpful & it's worth going on to their Facebook page to see if they can help.
-
Sale of goods act will give you upto 6 years to cover manufacture defects. Take it to the retailer first as that's where the legal obligation to provide you with goods fit for purpose lays.

When making an item of quality you have to think about what it's made from, how much detail has gone in to it, the skill level of the maker and how long it takes to make. $550 might sound like a lot to make 2 pick up covers, but if you think how much you're paying for the time alone (3 days), then that's just over $180 per day for the materials, labour & overheads. Making cakes, I understand when a bride doesn't want to spend the money we charge for a cake that they're only going to see for a couple of hours. But if you took how many hours go in to the designing and creation of it, our skill levels and the attention to detail (no elephant skin fondant, no bulges, sharp edges and then there's the taste), then it falls into place & the bride can either afford what we do or goes to a local baker for something in their budget. So I understand why it would cost so much for such an instrument of this calibre.

Mike Mills? I'd never thought of him as being underrated, or overrated for that matter. He plays basslines that fit well with the song, but despite going through several REM albums, I've not come across any that makes him stand out. Tina Weymouth, now there's a lady who has some basslines that sound simple, but are not. My shout goes to Pete Trewavas from Marillion.

If I were playing pro level for a living & had the funds, I wouldn't think twice about spending over £10k on an instrument. Though Ritter would be my first luthier to try (I love their looks, but I've never played one).
-
Isn't that a characteristic of the Ashdown sound? You say what your amp is, but which cab do you have? If the cab's designed to sound like that, you're not going to get what you're looking for from it (like trying to get tea out a coffee bean).

How strange. I googled "Basschat logo" & got lots of pics, including a couple of my cakes, but no avatars. I clicked the link & after a couple of rows, was presented with lots of avatars. Strangely, mine's on the 2nd row of images. Putting names to pics this early isn't easy.

In my mid teens I took up tenor horn & trumpet, both good fun. More recently I've been playing a little tin whistle (D tuned), though today the only instrument that's been getting tuneful is the butt trumpet.
Hi - how are you shipping basses with these guys? I can't find an option big enough for a bass.
I've not shipped a bass with them, the biggest thing I shipped was a MarkBass 2x10 combo. I'm pretty sure the dimensions acceptable for the larger parcels can accommodate a bass. I'd use their online chat or give them a call.
