  1. [quote name='icastle' timestamp='1430609065' post='2763101'] All good on that one. [/quote] Good stuff. I take it that posting in the marketplace is a bit like off topic, it doesn't show on the post count?
  2. There's another thread that seems rather similar. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/261185-sadowsky-modern-5-25-nyc/ May well be genuine, but all the posts are from first time posters.
  3. [quote name='chris_b' timestamp='1430573942' post='2762762'] Which is the case in the Retro Two10. [/quote] In which case the only noticeable benefit would be when it is place vertical with the filtered driver at the bottom, putting the full range closer to ear level.
  4. [quote name='Jazzneck' timestamp='1430547688' post='2762435'] I beg to differ if we talk about Barefaced cabs. I swapped my Ampeg 4x10 HLF Classic for a Barefaced RetroTwo10 mainly to save my back but I have also found: i) The Barefaced moves as much, if not more air than the HLF. ii) Something in the design of the Barefaced makes for an omnidirectional cab. I have found that it makes no difference to my shot ears (and punters who have commented) on whether the cab is set horizontally or vertically. Just [u]feel[/u] the bass, man. [/quote] I don't disagree with you on point 1. I've not used either cab, but from what Alex says, the drivers he uses are great at moving air. As for point 2, that could only be possible if one of the drivers were low passed.
  5. If you have to choose one of them, I'd probably go with the 2x10 as it has a better dispersion. But ideally I'd want it in 8 ohm.
  6. How about a fur top?
  7. Get some sticky backed vinyl. Maybe something patterned? Treadplate style? Vinyl is quite easy to apply if you have a smooth surface & a hairdryer & it can be picked up cheaply too.
  8. It depends on the 2x10 in question & how good it is at moving air. I never had trouble being heard using the MarkBass CMD102p in my old rock band, so really surprised to hear Cliffy having volume issues. I was asked to turn down many times, but never up (I don't think that was to do with my bass playing either). I suppose it depends on the sound you're after, how you set your eq & where you place the cab. If you whack the lows up or turn the mids down, you're gonna need a lot of speakers to move a lot of air to compensate if you are in a loud band. If you stick the 2x10 horizontally on the floor, then you're not gonna get much going to your ears. My experience was that a 2x10 could cover all the venues that didn't require PA support.
  9. If you're looking at combos, try out a MarkBass one. I had the 2x10 combo for many years & only sold it as I'd stopped playing live. It's pretty much a get out what you put in, but with the filters, the VLE (Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator) could get a very wooly sound. As for flexibility, you can easily remove the head & take it in a gig bag. Just mind & make a lid for it. I'd get to Glasgow, Edinburgh or Dundee & try out as much kit as you can. Don't be shy of saying "I want to try as many rigs as I can", because that Is what you want to do. Edited Jew two iPad knot no wing how too right ploperly
  10. Is it beside the "famous quotes" thread?
  11. [quote name='discreet' timestamp='1430326014' post='2760356'] It's not far off the current mrs d's birthday, either. I'm going to give her one. [/quote] You should get her a t shirt too.
  12. Are you on a wooden stage at these larger halls? Damping under the cab could help (I used some strips of drum riser foam, some on here use a Gramma Pad). A thumpinator might help as it reduces the lows that you don't hear.
  13. You shouldn't struggle with a rig like that. How do you stack your cabs? Stack them as a vertical array, if you don't already. Maybe the cabs or amp just doesn't have the sound you want. What about adding an active subwoofer to your rig?
  14. yiu only need a fraction of the wattage to move cones producing mid/high frequencies as what you do for getting low frequencies to move things. You're right that watts is a poor way to measure decibels. I'm not familiar with the Hartke you speak of, but GK do amps that are capable of putting the small amount of watts needed to the "treble" cab (for want of a better word) and a decent amount of power to the bass cab.
  15. [quote name='Number6' timestamp='1430248652' post='2759551'] Do they make an 8x15 cab? [/quote] They make 4x12s for guitarists, so given that logic I don't see why they wouldn't.
  16. Ask the cabinet makers which driver specs they used when modelling the cab. If they can't answer that, cancel the order.
  17. You could change those casters for wheels & pop a V8 in there!
  18. Post a link to the Flickr page & I'll do it for you.
  19. To counter the love hate thing, what songs do you love playing? One I can play & play & never get bored of is Use Me by Bill Withers. Not just sitting on the original bassline, but playing about with it (like incorporating part of the keys with it). The amount of groove it generates is just so much fun. That's just the first that comes to mind. Soooo... What covers do you love to play?
  20. [quote name='bootsy666' timestamp='1430157620' post='2758505'] It won't let me upload any photos again? It says I've reached my limit before I've even selected a photo? [/quote] The best thing to do for pics is to upload them to a photo site (such as Flickr), copy the BBCode & paste it in the message. Just like I did in my spoiler, or like everyone does in the photo comp.
  21. Get a sampler & sample the first 5 seconds. You could get a dedicated sampler such as an old Akai S950 for about £30 & trigger it with a foot controller, or you could get a stomp box such as a looper or even a multi fx pedal (my old Zoom had a sampler/looper that could sample up to 30 seconds, they can be picked up for peanuts). If you've got an iPad, you could install an app such as Akai MPC & sample the song from your iTunes library (put the song on your iPad). Set the BPM in MPC to match the song, then make a pattern that lasts however long you want & plays the intro twice & stop it as it starts to play the 2nd sample (it should still finish the sample if set to "One Shot". Now you take a cable from your iPad to the desk/amp, you're good to go.
  22. Nah, gotta be the smallest loudest class D head you can find. One extreme to the other.
  23. [quote name='DanH71' timestamp='1429977026' post='2756899'] Thanks sgxas but is a 210 light enough to lug around on/off public transport? [/quote] Fair point. The 2x10 I had was just 19kgs (Markbass 2x10 combo), but maybe a little large for lugging about on public transport. The traveller 2x10 gets good reviews from the owners of them on here & it's much smaller & lighter. I'd look at Alex's Super Midget though. If I ever get back to playing, I'd be considering a Barefaced cab.
  24. A good 2x10 will cover small to mid sized gigs with ease. I used a Markbass 2x10 that had no stress whatsoever.
