  1. I'm really liking this track. Great sound & nice playing.
  2. Okay, I'm in. Not having much luck getting Mrs to sing, so I got a vocal sample & chopped it up. Had an idea for a trance song, picked up the bass & something not trance came out. But I liked it, so that's the bassline. Then I set about mixing trance, metal & breakbeat together to come up with this nonsense.
  3. That sounds like my sort of gig. 😂
  4. Just been learning this very groovy bassline today. Now I have it, it's such a joy to play.
  5. I've wanted a fretless for yonks. I doubt it'd be a main instrument, but every time I have a play on one, I just love it. Just now I have 2 fretted. A 4 with flats & a 5 with rounds. I thought I'd prefer the 5, but I can play faster & more accurately on the 4 & I loooooove the feel & sound of flatwound strings. My fretless endeavours just now are satiated by my Roli Rise, though that's not been played since last summer! I need to get that up & running.
  6. If you want to play at church, give it a go. You can always change your mind if you find it unenjoyable. I’ll likely go back at some point. It’s just too much for me just now & the lack of forward planning is unnecessary stress that I don’t need just now (YCMV).
  7. Just going over today’s songs (I learned them last night, just doing a recap). One of the songs, “ His name is Jesus” by Phil Wickham is shifted by a 5th to suit the lead singist. I still don’t get why though? When learning the song last night, other than the original key, there was a female fronted version which was a semitone down, which to me is a sensible adjustment, not 5 (or 7) semitones. This is very common in our church & makes some songs hard for much of the congregation to sing. Surely if you have to mess up a song by that much, then either pick songs in a key close to what the singist can do, or have one of the singer’s who can sing it in a similar key do that song? But hey, this is my penultimate set at this church for a while. There’s too many things with worship music for me that makes it unenjoyable. Playing the song isn’t one of them. It’s getting a set list on Wednesday, the silly key changes, the “ohh, let’s remove the instrumental parts or cut them to 2 bars” nonsense. Why? That’s the bit where the congregation can really reflect on what they’ve just been trying to sing! There’s the sudden change of song, or adding tags from another song that fit like a square into a round hole. And then there’s the not finding out what the darn closing song is until 1/2 way through the pastor’s service. What is that all about? Surely the song pickers could just ask him what he’s preaching on in advance???
  8. Once you get the basics, Logic is fairly easy. There’s plenty of presets on things to get you in the ballpark too.
  9. There's quite a few on youtube. Ones I tend to watch are "Why Logic Pro Rules", "Musician on a Mission" & "Musictech Help Guy". But if it's a from scratch tutorial & "how do I do this", then Apple have great stuff here. https://www.apple.com/uk/logic-pro/resources/
  10. More like a 20 year delay. Most CCW leaves me cold & uninspired, which is the opposite from what it should be doing. I’m planning on stepping away from playing at church. Talking of church, there’s a hillsong documentary on National Geographic. Well worth a watch (we used the 7 day free trial to watch it, as there’s only 3 episodes).
  11. I looked at these before I got the Stingray. From the research that I did, they Got great reviews from owners. I was planning on doing a 5 string Jazz, but iirc, there’s only 4 string available.
  12. Here’s a thought if you really feel you must lube your pegs. If your tuners are open back, degrease them & then use a dry lube. This will reduce any gunk build up that you will get with a grease or jelly. If they’re closed & you don’t know what lube to use, then it may be worth giving them a clean out & using fresh grease. Tuners are gears, grease is normally used for that purpose, not oil.
  13. It’s not a bad thing. Look at all the free bumps you get. 😁
  14. Missed another! ”Here we have an excelent condition Hofner 5 string Headless bass.” 😂
  15. I used to get my bass, a 2x10 combo, a pedal board & an acoustic guitar in one of these with he top down. No room for a passenger though.
  16. @SardonicusI find that almost every worship song is a variation of the 1, 4, 5, 6 chords. If you know the key, then you can get away with playing sparse 2-3 note chords that may work over whatever chord is playing.
  17. I'd just be straight & say to him something along the lines of "Your medley is a great idea & I'd love to do it, but I don't know 3 of the songs & have no time to practice them. Would you be a good man & choose some from the existing setlist & once I get time, I'll practice those other songs for the next time".
  18. I bought my Ibby in early 1990 & never have I lubricated the machine heads. I don't know for def, but I would have thought that lubeing them would make them easier to turn, which could potentially allow your strings to detune themselves? Oh, I've also got my first bass, which I bought in 1984 & never lubed those tuners up either. Even though the bass is in bits & the pegs in a toolbox, they still work like they should (I was in that box a couple of days ago & checked them).
  19. Which is something that put me off ever getting a Fender for many years. Not that there's anything wrong with a nice Fender bass, they were just way too common for my liking.
  20. I’m 51 & still can’t 😹
  21. I'm most comfortable with a .73 for any stringed instrument & not bothered on brand.
  22. A Ritter Roya Royal. Ideal for me who can't pronounce the letter R, so it's a Witteu Woya Woyal.
  23. I had TI Jazz flats before the Chromes, they were nice, but I managed to snap the D string! Lord knows how. I found the Chromes to be a little brighter than the TIs. Are the Elixirs roundwound?
  24. Old thread bump. I'm in a very similar position to the OP at the start of this thread. My bass has Chromes on it & I love the feel of them. Just got a Sterling Sub Ray5 HH a couple of weeks ago & I'm going to be restringing it (the strings on it are cheapo quality, which I expected on a fairly cheap bass). I had thought about getting Chromes for it, but I'm liking a bit extra zing, so seriously considering going for a smooth roundwound. @JapanAxe, are the Cobalts the rounds or the flats & how are you getting on with them now? Did you try pressure wounds as a comparison?
  25. You mean you went all Abe Laboriel on it? 😁
