not a massive fan tbh! seems a bit light, i think it does need a second guitar but a bit more bass in the guitar might sort that. andy -

Looking for a cheap/light to go with a Ashdown MAG300 head
0175westwood29 replied to Mofo46's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for the feedback guys, unfortunately I think the gear your selling is a little out of my price range, perhap the Hydrive cab isn't but my ashdown head it the full width one, the size of the 2x10 so I'd like something close to that size. The Harley Benton is looking good then, I do use some effects but its more to fill the sound then to go for it. Oh and I forgot to mention I also will be playing my EUB through it so looking for something that's no mellow but warm-ish. Spotted the GK mbe212, which is definitely interesting, very light; again anyone got/used one? http://www.thomann.d...2mbe_8_ohms.htm Cheers
those 212 mbes are nice cabs, tweeter is a bit rubbish but they are nice sounding, i think a few ppl had some probs but for the price there very good, it was only the sound of the hydrive speaker that made me get that instead over the mbe. -

Cab Advice To Pair With GK 2001RB?
0175westwood29 replied to x_Morning_Star_x's topic in Amps and Cabs
Thanks for your replies out of interest are the which cabs out of the neos and the RBH are better? i dont really have much experience with GK,
the neos will be lighter, but i would see if you could try them side by side and let your ears decide andy -
Well I assume so the guy in the shop must have set it correctly. It was already set up when I went in. It went quite loud just not the kind of loud I like it was very middy compared to the AD200, (the ad200 is a thumping good amp, first time id had a decent go) . With the TB500 there was not really any increase in percieved vol. Maybe its the digital power section. It just doesnt cut it with my playing style. I am going to give the Markbass TTE 500 see if that fairs any better. I guess I am used to valve power amps.
Not played a terror bass but doubt you'll get to sound exactly like the ad200 due to the lack of a tube power section
-
also thinking of the thunderverb 200 as a possiblity? anyone around these parts got one? andy
There is a markbass classic that is all valve in the marketplace right now, bit pricey though.
yeh i did see this but its to much monies andy
For me, Aguilar DB750! After having tried many, many amps, the DB750 does it for me, not overly heavy and plenty of power and weight to each note. Had one, sold it and soon bought another one as nothing came close to the Aguilar. Ampeg SVT Classic is really nice too I have to say.
This! Awesome amp the aguilar! Also love there now it would appear discontinued ag500. Also after trying one the other day the orange ad200b is outstanding!!!!!
There are lots of fixes for the terror bass' slight problems, but the solid 500 watt at 4 or 8 ohm is more than enough to make up for it. You also need a solid cab to get the most out of a valve amp. But depends how you will use it and for what. You can always keep what you have and add more preamp valves to your signal chain, which I find alwaus helps in getting a more 'valvey' sound. The hot DI is awful, but you can always have a DI pedal on your board too. You can get some funds if you p/x that modulus to me.
haha not a chance! thats the one thing that i wnt sell, im thinking my hartke 115 will sound very nice with a valve head and its got a nice 500w rating so can def take the power, not really wanting to buy an extra di pedal or distortion boxes as im happy with the headlite but just fancy having a full valve amp back in my life. really interested in what the thunderverb 200 would sound like on bass through the two channel thing looks cool, and actually sounds as if it would be usefull as its kinda got the aural enhancer on the second channel, which i like from the headlite! not to sure on the mesa? every mesa head ive heard played has not been to my liking!? andy
Turns out the dude who bought one of my 200w PAs is using a pair for his home stereo.
good lord! andy

ive thought about the terror bass, the fan noise isnt what puts me of its more the di, i know its a cheap fix but that bit is just something else to go wrong. not that they sound bad but id be missing the valves i think ( iknow ill get slated for saying that) thhe weight isnt really a problem as our guitarist has a all valve marshall and i help him out so he'd be cool to help me. and on the point of other valve amps i just dont know enough about the older amp to trust them, and after listening to some videos the traynor isnt the right kinda sound, i really like the want darker tones you can get with the ad200b. im really regreting selling my ad140b now! the stupid things you do in youth! andy
Could probably do better than the Orange for that sort of money going vintage, and serviced properly.
care to name a few? only other heads that ive seen are svt, vba 400 and the ashdowns. theres a nice one on here but not interested in trades and ive got no funds to offer. andy
I gigged an Ampeg SVT CL back in the day and loved it. In fact, I've spent most of my time since then trying to recreate that sound. I should have saved myself a shedload of grief and cash and just bought another SVT!
yeh svt's are nice but the ad is more what im after, more warm
-
I thought about this too, but just couldn't give up the convenience of SS... how about an SS power amp with your choice of valve amp emulation? Valve amp emulation is getting very good now, y'know... the B3's sigmoid curve clipper is a case in point... Mind you, with a real valve amp you do get the proper vibe... and the weight... and the worry... ...not trying to put you off or anything...
well i used to have an aguilar db750 which was awesome, dnt really care about the weight, and i never hear of orange amps having issues. i do have some interest in the terror bass but its the cleanish head room would give probs also the hot di, not that im implying that the ad has got loads of clean headroom. i know i could by a sansamp and a littlemark 2 and get a valve sound but i rem when i had my ad140b that it sounded so much more full an weighty. andy andy
