...thanks guys, but the um err 1153....I'm guessing that is a 1x15"...so what does the 3 mean?
not a clue! but when i had mine it matched up pefectly in width with the 2103x so maybe something to do with the cab sizing? andy
Telling them to not buy Marshalls would be a good start. You can make amps that have volume knobs that function properly and sound good, rather than getting one that sounds rubbish and turning it up until it sounds good.
thats down to personal choice im a big fan of marshall's (good marshalls) most if not all guitar amps be they marshall engl, orange or mesa sound best when pushed. but also nowdays there are ways of getting round this, one of our guitarists have a small fender twin reverb and a line 6 pod very nice sound. but i realise this now going off topic andy
Fairly sure at a gig where my mate's band played, who have a clean baritone guitar and a distorted bass going on, that the sound engineer kept demanding the bass turn down until the notes were lost in the hiss of his pedals because he was assuming it was the 4x15 and 4x12 bass rig that was too loud, when it was actually the baritone guitar into a standard 4x12.
surely this just proves that the engineer doesnt have a clue? annoys me when i used to have my 610 and alot of pedals that when i asked if they could mic my cab they'd say no! i asked them again saying i used pedals and that i bought my cab for a reason, again they said no! a di i will be fine! also they then put there own before my amp which was even worse! hence i like have a rig loud enough to play small/medium venues without support. it does show the arrogance of some ppl that size means loud, yes sometimes it does but not all the time. andy
I think the hardest part of getting that good stage sound is trying to convince the guitarist that he doesn't need to be cranked to 11. Once he realises he doesn't have to drown out the snare & crash, then getting everything else to sound good on stage is a much easier job.
This is tho if your guitarist like mine has a full marshall stack they actually sound better when cranked! And shoot me for saying this they do sound awesome! Maybe just tell all guitarists to buy one of the things that allows them to crank but not be so loud is it a power break? The more annoying thing is when ppl dnt use the soundcheck well, ie the singer sings much quieter than norm the guitarist noodles around and doesnt check pedal levels etc and im the only one making adjustment for the room or stage?
I try
Whats the blue pedal with four sw's ? -
Lol ! It's true about the B3K/B7K. I have been through a horde of pedals and only the Darkglasses really did that tone. If you are trying to emulate it with other pedals it would have to involve a signal splitter/mixer, a dist pedal plus, probably, an EQ ..... so that would work out more pricy than a B3K.
this is true i used to used a ehx metal muff and an ls-2 but it would lose to much of the actual note in fuzz unless you dialed the distortion back, the b3/7k seem to be able to get super distorted yet theres always the note clarity. andy
It depends on the ma rating of those 7 pedals. Generally speaking, you can treat milliamps like amp wattage headroom, you want more than you need. I would want my power supply to not be running over half capacity, so say the Boss tuner can supply 200ma, and you have 7 pedals that total 170ma, you're going to probably start hearing some excess noise and perhaps some sag with regards to the actual effects. In your case, if you have 7 Boss pedals that add up to 90ma (Check Boss Area for the ratings), you're fine. Cheers Si
oh yeh im always supper carefull! currently im just using the tuner but like you say i make sure im well inside the ma rating. andy

I think my tu3 can supply up to 7 boss pedals? Could be wrong but ive never used it for that as i have a diago power supply that can supply alot of pedals. Nice to know its there if i need it tho its like having a second power supply Andy

dnt forget the 2103x 8ohms 2x10" and 2x5" tweeters awesome cab tho! andy
Yeah, if price is an issue then try the b3k it's the same drive circuit just without the EQ or DI
its the added eq that i kinda like the look of!! i feared this would be the response sadly, looks like i bbetter see if anyone wants a kidney!? andy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCp8vE1ZT0g love nolly's tone! also alot of bassists i like seems to be heading over to these but is there a cheaper pedal that can get close? ie while i save up the 340 odd quid for a new one!!! ive tried the boss odb-3 and that gives a more fuzz kinda sound, never tried an sansamp but as that seems to be more about going for an svt kinda sound which the b7k is not any suggestions? andy
-
if something sound good is it wrong? i dnt know the math but all of that stuff kinda gets in the way for me and gets very confusing for a beginner. this is the only time i envy guitarists! they have 12" speakers and thats it! andy

can i just stumble in and say that i use a 112 and a 115 together and they sound awesome! surely thats all that matters? andy

the tonehammer 500 is a lovely amp! its got the agro drive circit in there which is a lovely dirt sound if you want it! and they are loud! also the build quailty on aguilar is second to none! my old db750 was and is to date still the best amp ive ever had!!! but i would honestly give the markbass lmt 500 a go, they really are amazing heads! and can be got secondhand for about 350? id probs still have mine if i hadnt seen a got gas for my headlite! also i know you've not said about then but the hartke hydrive cabs are awesome!!! the 112 is such a portable cab and has a tweeter and is swtichable between 4 and 8 ohms so you can have one for small gigs and 2 for the larger and it 300w. id do this but i have fallen for the sound of one of these and a 15" hydrive together! andy
I just always thought that being a bigger cone (15") that it could be lacking definition. I have a 2x10 cab extension but just dont always get the chnace to get it in my car. If I did I'd use it all the time
not really, i think thats set by how sensitve the speaker is had an orange, trace elliot and now have a hartke 115 and none of these lacked in defination the orange was slightly less defined than the other two but not bad, some of the guys on here will say you shouldnt mix speaker sizes but if you like the sound of the 115 combo with the 210 ext cab then id stick with that, doesnt mean the 15 is lacking its just the 210 gets the sound nearer to your ear. markbass i think make a wedge that can go under some of there combos to act as a tilt back so the sound goes up slightly maybe try this? as you could be adding more bass than needed as you can't quiet hear the true sound of the cab? could always try tilting the combo back at a practice and seeing if it makes a dif? andy
I keep playing some larger halls for charity or function events but am worried my sound is getting pretty lost and I have a fear of going too crazy with eq or volume in case I just become a noise. Any sorta tips with getting a decent sound? In the halls you just seem to be too tinny or too bassy. I got a 1x15 combo which is probably the problem. Cheers, Greg
i doubt that your combo is the problem. ive heard loads of combos that have sounded awesome! are you feeling its boomy on stage? i always get someone who know the sound i like/want to gimme a nod from the back if its sounding ok. andy
Finally got around to starting my more portable setup. The huge board is amazing, but logistics are nightmarish! Quite a bit has been removed and I'm still at the rough layout phase which i'll use for a few rehearsals before changing my mind again, but at the mo, its working a bit like this (with a few minor tweaks happening this week)...
i love that this is your portable board lol! -
bought a hartke 115 bass cab of chris nice guy to deal with would deal again andy

sold my trace elliot 1153 to felpsy, awesome guy to deal with. deal with confidence andy
Well... Video cams or phones are a complete lottery re the sound. We have had good and bad results with these basic point and shoots but we never expected to be able to use them. It depends on quite a few hit and miss things, IME. Best audio we had was a Zoom H2..?? IIRC... as we able to regulate the input into the mic so the audio picked up the mix without clipping. The rest of the core sounds and playing came across and was a useable reference. For me, the drums don't drive the tracks..but to be fair, a better mix might allow me to elaborate. I think the drums need to be big and at the forefront as they have to dominate...or at least not get swamped by twin gtrs. I would think your sort of material needs a very good P.A and sound... as the gtrs will invaribly be very powerful and over-dominant very easily. The vox are hard to cut thru unless the P.A has a lot of volume to give..as those low vox tend not to project.
im really hoping that in the new year that we'll get all the tracks from the desk, yeh totally agree about the guitars im actually very impressed with how my bass cuts thru, cant wait for my hartke 115 hydrive to show up! ok cool well like i said hopefully have a better mix for ppl in the new year andy
First I've heard of it! I would get a Darkglass B7K but they're so expensive.. How's the B3K compared to the '7K? Can I still get a Periphery sound out of it? *thread hijack* and etc.
amazing tone! love it! shame its so pricey! andy
