  1. I stack one on my K1 to similar effect. I think the travelers are fabulous.
  2. I own both the Jazz and the Precision in that range. Most of the Ultra Jazzes I've tried have been just over 9lbs(the one I bought is 9.2lbs). Tried a few of the five strings and, while I can't remember actual weights, none of the fives felt much heavier than the fours so I'm a bit surprised at the weight of the one Reggaebass showed. I think you would benefit from shopping around. Oddly my Ash Precision is about 8.10lbs.
  3. Now I’ve recently tried a Sire I can say I’ve tried all these bases and they are all great. You won’t beat the fender for the Real Macoy effect but the other two (especially the Sire) will be much more consistent regarding quality control. The Sandberg, to my ears, have a very strong character of their own but you may hear different. The rest is about how they fit in your hands.

I think Guitar Guitar have a couple more in the same colour at what I think is a good price.

Thanks. I have been staring at it too much.

Indeed it is. Already have the Precision in natural ash. Necks are slightly different. Both excellent but the jazz is a little bit quicker which I didn’t think possible as the Precision is really quick. Neck also seems different to other Ultras I’ve tried. That maybe a 75th anniversary thing. There’s a decal on the back of the headstock. The colour is remarkable and it sounds great.

A tad shocked at myself but a fairly casual investigation turned into a purchase last weekend. Bar the commmon, slight misalignment of some of the pots I can’t fault the thing. Took me ten minutes to set it up. Probably the best action on a bass I’ve ever had. Sounds fabulous (to me) and is quite a looker in the flesh.
  8. I have two ELFs and they're really noisy. Doesn't bother me though.
  9. And I’m quite pleased. I work away from home so treated myself to something for my other flat. I already have an ELF and love it with my Markbass traveler. So I got another along with a Trace Elliot 2x8. Next to the Mark bass it sounds and feels like an executive toy; crisp, crystal clear and, while it lacks the earth shaking characteristics of the Markbass, the volume and lower frequencies are impressive but it wouldn’t be my first choice up against a large drum kit. Looks good though! And the two work together well though the traveler does drown the 2x8 a little.
  10. Tried a similar model and it was sublime. Too expensive mind but that’s nothing new!
  11. At college I had a Bach Straduvarius trombone. Stunning instrument. Used to care for it like it was my child. Always slick(literally) and polished. After I graduated I treated every instrument I owned the same way - like it was about to go in a shop window for sale. It was only in 2019 when I picked up my Fender precision I changed. After less than two years it's scratched and battered (but still in great shape) and I only realised recently what the difference was. It was never going in a shop window because I knew I was never going to sell it!
  12. Are we still talking about the settee(sorry... couldn't resist)?
  13. Another Spector owner chiming in though I’m surprised no one’s mention a Stingray. My Ultra Precision is VERY punchy and beautifully mellow but you may not find one with the edge you’re looking for (though the Elites are very bright).
  14. I still have my Overwater Explorer which was built for me in the eighties. In the nineties I swapped the neck pickup with a Bartolini. I got the extra tonal range I wanted out of it but still regret losing the original. May ask Chris May if he has another lying around.
  15. Beautiful. Congratulations!
  16. Ummm... I did pick up the phone. Left a message and everything... then I came here with a simple question...
  17. Well I’ve managed to open up a can of worms!! To be honest the only thing I’ve bought from them crapped out after a couple of days and driving up there was the quickest solution. Found the guy very amiable though. If he gets back to me we’ll talk business but if anyone knows where I can pick up an Elrick five string Jazz... I would be very grateful.
  18. I know there's a lockdown on but thought I might investigate an online purchase. Left a message but there's been no response. Just curious.
  19. Been thinking the same thing for quite a while now. Bought a Fender Ultra Precision at the end of 2019. Best guitar I've ever owned despite not being a boutique instrument. Couldn't believe it. The thing is magical. Tried the same model later in another shop and was horrified. It just wasn't the same instrument; felt different, sounded different. Others I've tried since have been closer but never as good. Guess it's all about getting lucky finding the right instrument.
  20. Thanks for getting back and sorry for the late reply. I was particularly interested in the high pass filter in combination with the EQing. I own a spectrum and am very comfortable with source audio. Truth be told my equipment shouldn’t need extra EQing but I wondered what benefits there were with something as comprehensive as the EQ2.
  21. Looks great but I tried the Mercury Jazz and I think that's even nicer!
  22. Thanks. My search engine couldn't find this an hour and a half ago. Do you think there'll be any duty to pay?
  23. and the first thing I noticed was Thomann, who do the best price, don't seem to be advertising U.K. prices. Is this Brexit landing? Will there be different import duty? Has anyone tried recently? Can I get a sub £200 price over here?
  24. Ash grains don't sit that far apart normally. Alder has very little grain. I used this site to discover my Ash bass was made from Heartwood(the centre of the tree often called olive wood or Tiger wood). Try looking here. https://www.wood-database.com/wood-finder/
