1.
hey're very good (and the singer's very nice looking too)
Youtubed them, they areindeed awesome
(and the singer's very nice looking too)
(indeed she's nice looking too!)
 2. was jamming with a friend whose voice I really like, and was looking for ideas of simple bass n vocal duos to play around with. The first to spring to mind was Fever by Peggy Lee, then I found this great cover of summertime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR4OsbMXQ7I anyone know of any others?
 3. Would be interesting to be able to arrange the members in order of most 'likes'. Purely out of curiosity obviously.
 4. Just found this trumpet back and forth between trombone shorty and wynton marsalis. poor sound quality, but still awesome:
Hate watching TV on computer screens, always forget to set the HDD recorder, and VHS died. As a musician I reserve the right to be massively disorganised. And they repeat everyflippingthing else (unless I want to actually watch it)
i thought even freeview lets you get to iplayer on your tv, i know our virgin box does. p.s. loving that the youtube vid now embeds automatically!!
 5. Yeah was a great ep, other than Snow Patrol. Trombone Shorty was especially good, will definitely be checking him out in the full length version
+1!
Isn't this what the 'like this' button is for? to stop threads built up mostly of people writing +1?
 6.
Looks great, but is there some way of making topics you've posted in more visible than a little star?
even just a big star would be much better.
 7. Had a massive slap in the face that made me realise i seriously need to do this. Have been doing a good amount of scales practice on the double bass, and have done quite a lot of major scales along one string. However, as soon as I switched to minor, I had to suddenly stop and think about what I need to play. I know the intervals are 2 1 2 2 1 2 2, but that didn't really help. So now I'm starting to do it saying each note out loud first lets see if it helps
 8. Kinda know what you're going through. Played in general rock bands back in school, and thought I was pretty good. However, I then got to uni, and went along to the jazz/funk jam nights, and realised how much more room i had for development (i.e. that i was rubbish). Thankfully I'm able to say that I'm now a much better bassist, although I'm actually doing more practise than ever at the moment. How about just asking one of your band members for some informal lessons? I did the same with a mate who's great on trumpet, just spent an evening discussing stuff like how to play over chords and other basic theory, whilst I provided some beers to drink as payment. Saying this now, since moving to double bass back at christmas, I got myself a proper teacher, and just monthly lessons with him have been hugely helpful. One last note, have recently started recording myself, and it seems no matter how good it felt whilst playing it, it's never as good on the listen back through unless it's truly perfect, guessing you might be having some of the same symptom.
 9. Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but having the preview post button when using the new improved quick reply (which I really like) would be really useful. I would search for it, but the topic search just gave me an option to click the general topic header, it didn't take me to any specific posts.
When wanting to reply to an email there is no "REPLY" button to click on like there was before ?????
Yeah that's been replaced by the new quote button, the new multiquote button nowserves the function of the old quote button. Hope that made sense...
 10.
Also thats a lovely looking vigier
I reckon ped's spilt his lunch on the bottom right side of the white polo shirt, and that's why he's holding his vigier. He also held it with the black shirt just for consistency between shots.
 11.
I did this on SRX700 Ibanez. Whilst it worked (as in I got the low 'B') I found the intonation all over the place.
Even after adjusting the saddle distances? I can't see any reason why this would happen.
 12. That's one seriously unhappy panda. Cool video, and a nice song too.
 13.

Mobile site for your smartphone - faster and better access to message board including PMs

Great, cos I don't already spend too much time on here. That's just really inconsiderate of you. p.s. it's looking awesome, well done and thankyou Edit: a pretty pedantic problem i think, but for some reason the quotes on this thread don't seem to be behaving. Just thought I'd point it out incase it shows something underlying...
 14. you spotted this thread? might be the kinda thing you're looking for, although i'd admit i don't know cornish geography http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=79629 p.s. the search button is mighty useful!
 15. Hey slowcage. welcome for a fellow (kinda) bristolian, been studying here for a few years now. good luck not falling into the trap of spending more time browsing BC than actually practising
 16.
A slightly left field solution for this one is to learn (to performance standard) a number of pieces in the same key, on an wind instrument, such as the trombone ?
not sure why you've picked trombone as the instrument, piano would seem like the logical choice to me, partly as it's more visual. In fact, I've been meaning to do this for a while, after stealing my dad's old keyboard. Just decided I shall start doing 20mins a day on keys from tomorrow, probably mostly scales to start with
 17.
I think ZMech hit it really well
My apologies, it's just that at that point in the thread the most controversial thing I could think of to say was to actually talk about the OP
 18. I hate both, I'm just a masochist with a strange sense of humour.
 19.
I've noticed a couple of posts lately which,to me,give the impression that there are some people who feel that gear is an important part of improvement as a player or more important than the player themselves. It's not just limited to this site or bass players in general...I've seen it with a lot of drummers and guitar players too. I love gear as much as anyone but I feel that the gear is somewhat secondary to the player and that everyone would benefit so much more from spending money and time on lessons and practice rather than spending thousands on gear. I understand that some people are collectors of instruments but I'm guessing that the vast majority of people on here are more than that.
Not that hard to understand, it's just an attempt at a shortcut, and so a result of mankind's inherent laziness (I include myself in that statement). The amount of time it takes to walk in to a shop and buy [insert your favourite bassist here]'s bass and amp is pretty tiny compared to the amount of time that [reinsert the bassist's name] actually spent practising.
 20. do you think if you were to put the cab flat on the floor, instead of vertical, alex would immediately come and confiscate it?
 21. One change I'd propose is adding the chord notation before the name e.g. CM7+9. It also seems you're missing out a normal (maj3rd, perfect 5th) dominant 7th, normally notated as C7.
 22. Got myself a zoom h1 to record jam ideas with, and recently a couple of DB lines to send to a mate, which worked pretty well. If you spent the extra bit and get the zoom h2 you can use it to record straight into the computer according to the site, kinda wishing i had now.
 23.
the other droning on about DJ Shadow like he was the next big thing. The BG guy did not seem to know who he was, and after all, 'Endtroducing' was only realesed in '96 (sorry, being a bit of a bitch here).
Perhaps this dude had annoyed him on an already bad day? Also, have never listened to Endtroducing, although I know the name DJ Shadow (21yo student) ...
 24. Tell them just that that you're a beginner wanting to play jazz, if they're as good as everyone says they'll then do a decent setup.
