1.
I've heard of people sending themselves a letter containing written material, which establishes the date, and leaving it unopened until it might be required. Though I have some doubts about that.
I think the bit you've left out is that they do it with recorded delivery, so that they have a receipt of the date.
2. been learning alot about patents recently, but not so much about copyrights. this is the official government page for it, which should be pretty helpful. http://www.ipo.gov.uk/types/copy.htm
3. Well my google+ now has a jazz news feed, which kicked out this gem:

5. Discuss it with the singer. It sounds like your guitarist has made his mind up. If the singer wants to do it just for the fun and experience, then it sounds like you'd also be up for that. If she's not, then that's your choice made for you.
6. I'd suggest that there's an aspect of skewed perception here. You're probably far more likely to 'notice' that it's a 5 string, where as the fact it's a four won't really register in the same way, so you would end up thinking it's a much higher proportion than it is.
7. hasn't pop music always been awful? Most of the pop i've seen from the 70's is absolutely god awful, but the critics of the modern commercial nonsense seem to forget that fact.
8. I heard about the floating thumb technique, and it just seemed like a much more logical method to me. I used this video by todd johnson, was very helpful:
9. yup, that was certainly time well spent, great documentary!
10. looks interesting, gonna watch it now cheers silddx
11. I've though it myself when listening to Jimmy Page's 30 minute bowed guitar solo on their live album. As much as I love led zep, that did drag on and seem self indulgent to me, but I guess there must have been some audience members who were in awe for the whole duration, which would prove me wrong. I know I've been guilty of being musically self-indulgent occasionally. Surely most of us have had the occasion during a jam/performance when you're thinking more about your own enjoyment from playing the song than that of the audience? If not, guess i'll grab my coat...
12.
The simple truth is the guy in control and the band making the music determines in entirety the quality of the final product, more than the tech used.
so long as you have the machine that goes Bing!
13.
There is absolutely nothing worse than desperately needing a piss mid gig.
Yes there is. Having to sneeze loads whilst navigating a three lane roundabout at rush hour, absolutely terrifying.
14. I took this advice, and ended up buying a second hand G4M bass for £300, plus the £80 for a setup, which was paid for by selling the giant hardcase. Took my teacher to test it with me, since he obviously knows far more than me, and he reckoned it was a decent one. I haven't really played any other 'budget' basses to compare it to, but I like it anyway. Once I can afford it, and feel I deserve it, I'll probably sell it on and find something of a higher quality, but that'll be for a while yet!
15.
The sharp edge along the fingerboard you describe is a Romburg Bevel,
Good knowledge! Wasn't aware it actually had a name, will have to remember that one. Got to appreciate the adverts attempted use of those magical marketing words, 'hand made'.
16. Has anyone else ever wondered what would happy if barefaced and BFM teamed together to make a range of uber-cabs? Good luck to mrtcat if you do go this route, think of it as whether you'd be able to average a new order every 10 days. Perhaps you could see if anyone wants to make a pre-order to start you going.
17. nice thread idea, I'll be keeping an eye on the suggestions that come up for future use myself
18.
They have an ebay shop or you can translate their German pages on babel fish
Babel fish? how last century If you use google chrome, it'll translate the whole website fairly reliably with a click of a button, just install this extension: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/a...fhkkikfgjllcleb
19. Due to this thread I've now bought myself a decent gigbag at least. The one I've been using was a cheap stagg case I got free with my first bass 5 years ago. Decided spending £30 on a nice padded bag to carry around my spector is probably a worthy investment.
20. Well I walk everywhere, so it's a gig bag for me. Once I start driving everywhere i'll probably switch to a hard case though, if chucking it in the car you might as well.
21. Well now you seem to have two copies of each track up there! guessing you either forgot to delete the originals, or if you did they take a while to disappear.
22. Well buying a book will cost about as much as a lesson, and I think you can learn more in an hour with a good teacher than you can from a book. Personally I've gone with the combined approach, where I've bought the rufus reid book (simandl was too much of a boring slog for me), and have had infrequent lessons, in which we partly discuss how best to approach the different exercises in the book. Vast amounts of learning to be had! I'd also echo what bilbo said, £40 on a couple lessons now will save you alot of pain and medical bills later on!
23. Whilst I knew how to play before coming to uni, it was mostly through going to the jazz society jam nights that I can now actually play properly with a band. It's a great learning experience, and don't worry about being a beginner, we all were at one time and so understand, if it's a good night you'll just end up getting tips and encouragement.
24. Nicely timed thread, was already wondering earlier today whether I should sell my 'spare' basses. My main bass is my spector euro, along with a double bass, so the rockbass (first bass) and random cheap fretless don't get touched, think I might sell them and buy a couple of pedals instead.
25. good album, very nice stuff. Think there might be an error with it on grooveshark, as your 4th song (coure enchaine) stops abruptly mid-chord at 2mins 14s, guessing that's not meant to happen. Loving your singer, great voice.
