1. Back to topic... My first was an Ibanez Rick copy not too dissimilar to this. I was 13 and found myself wanting to rock with my friends who where already into Led Zepplin and Kiss. I found it in the local rag and my dad (who also bought me my first amp, thank you) sprung the $125 for it. Played it for years before selling it to by another Ibanez Musician, both of which I wish I had the forsight to keep. those where the days...
2.
I can't believe no one's mentioned Black Night!
...or Brick House by the Commodores Aint No Stopping us Now
3. That's a great tone. I tried stopping the video but couldn't tell what pups were in the bass, but it sure sounds great
4. Warmoth 5...after 7 years of beating on it, it's starting to really sound "played"
5. Probably best to get in touch with the mods so they can lend a hand. If a few people have been had by the same person, maybe the mods can contact all the previous buyers and find out a bit more info for you. Good luck.
6. Add another 6 from me 886
7. Don't suppose you have any, or can record any sound clips? Cheers,
8.
Another one here...In Cas!
Just down the road. I'm in Outwood between Wakey and Leeds... I can feel a Yorkshire chapter of Bass day forming
9. I'm a dep in a Drifters group and also play with this originals group. I also record a lot with Pash and his php5.5 listed on the even-hand site. The Drifters is really fun because the guys in the band are great chaps. The even-hand project is my cerebral gig. It's really challenging because it's not the sort of thing I naturally lean towards. But, the music is so cool and the other guys are really cool and talented. I really wish I could dedicate more time to it but my marriage is ending, my job is manic and seeing my kids all take up most of my time. Look for us next year, we'll be ready to gig then. Good luck with the drum lessons...it's a great thing for bassists to learn. I'd really enjoy stopping round for a bit of playing. Might not be until Jan though. Cheers,
10. Yeah that's right Tony, I played with them for a few months this year, mostly through the summer, but I quit for personal reasons around August or September. You know Jez and the (now completely new) gang?
11. Gig at a club with a well known soul group. We the band played great, but the 4 singers...sounded like a tarzan competition
12. Welcome Bren, I work in Shipley and the view from my window is of Salts mill. Ours is the red brick building next to the tall red brick chimney. We frequent Fanny's or the Pride for a tipple at lunch time. Have to hook up and talk bass (instead of me boring my workmates ) Cheers,
13.
Skywalker, a little village called Scholes near Cleckheaton ( a slightly larger town !! ) nr J26 on the M62
I work in Shipley so I pass Clecker's almost everyday when coming from Wakey on the M62. That new bit of road works connecting the M606 and the M62 is really helping the already congested area, isn't it... Anyway, welcome again
14.
Hey Tom, A lucky hit, enjoy it Cheers, Dan I've already sent it this morning....
Thanks bro, can't wait for it to come. Cheers,
15. Just won this. I can't wait to get it. My old one bust a few years ago and I really miss it. This is going to to be a welcome addition to the tone family. Cheers
16. You might consider a Hipshot D Tuner as an alternative to 5 strings as well.
17. Can you let us know the dimensions? i.e. is the neck PU smaller than the bridge PU like traditional jazz basses? Thanks,
18. Hi and welcome from another Yorkshire man. Hope you enjoy the site. Cheers
19. Guyl, I'm sorry but I feel you are making silly sweeping generalizations. The Upright bass is difficult to learn and play. You buy a cheap sh1t instrument and it makes it all the harder. You need to take the Upright as serious as any other instrument you learn. I've never been told to spend a fortune on lessons and thousands on instruments. I researched and found that quality instruments cost thousands. There's a reason for that. You buy a sh1t double bass from China and you'll literally hurt yourself trying to play the thing. Plus you'll spend as much or more on repairs of an instrument that will never live up to what you need. Yeah, jump in and learn but do it sensibly instead of chucking money away and physically hurting yourself.
20. Not wanting to sounding like a bone head, but what do you use this for? Is it for home recording or live work? Any colouring of the sound with this? Cheers,
21. Bloody heck, look at that. That is stunning. I'd keep it Al and revert it to passive. That's stonkin'
22. Thanks for the input so far everyone. In response to a few comments: The bass is brand new so the frets aren't worn down, the bass just wasn't made well. It was cheap and from China/The States so no returns etc... I've almost always set up my basses so I kind of have an idea about neck relief and such. the neck is set correctly and the thing still buzzes. Like I mentioned, it's cheap so things like this are amost expected. I'll look for that book Burpster. I have "Electric Guitar Setups" by Hideo Kamimoto and his style lends itself more to sand paper than files but I agree with you about the diamond files. They look more efficient. I'll get one or two of those and a proper fret file to make things easier. I'll keep you all posted and thanks again. Cheers,
