Hi Dave and welcome from a fellow Yank. I've been over here for 12 years and love it. I hope you get to travel around a bit while you are over here. I live "up North" which to "southerners" is anything above the M25 . Seriously, get up to the Dales and Lakes and Peak District if you can. And also to the Highlands if possible. Stunningly beautiful. You might try gravy on the side with your fish and chips for a variation. I personally never got accustomed to the salt and vinegar thing. I eat my chips with ketchup or gravy. The $ to £ situation will make it rather hard for you to get a good deal here. You get hammered on the exchange so you will be right in looking for a trade more than a purchase. Let me know if you come up to Leeds/Wakefield area and I'll take you to the local for a few pints and to the Empire for fish and chips. They even have a drive thru. Enjoy the site. Cheers,
On the other hand you could always add another £1000 and order a Status Streamliner. Played one at the factory last month & it was a stunning bass in all respects.
How was the tone? Did it lack from the smaller body?

P basses are great, so putting together a P-b@st*rd was a lot of fun. I had a neck, bought a cheap Squire body and bits and got a knock off Bill Lawrence pup. I then proceeded to scavenge the John East BTB01 from the jazz bass and popped it into the scratch plate. The result was a very fat, slightly modern sounding P Bass. One thing with the East pre's I've noticed is that when you roll off the treble, you cut some mids as well which softens the tone and attack too much IMO. This is overcome by adding John's passive tone control. Being a P bass, there was no room for another pot without moving the jack which I thought to be a pain. Reading GreenKing's mod to his P Bass to add a passive tone, I got the idea to do something similar. I ordered a stacked pot from Allparts and some .47 orange caps. Now, they sent me the incorrect pot but in the end it has actually worked in my favor. I ordered the dual 500k and they sent me a 250/500k. I used the 500k for the preamp and the 250 for the passive tone. I had to dig out the cavity some to shift the battery. It used to fit snuggly below the single volume but the stacked pot took all that space. Only about 15 mins with the chisel and job done. Covering it back up with the shielding foil helped hide the messy bits. I'm not really fussed about aesthetics too much on my basses. Wow, now I literally have two basses in one. The BTB had a active passive switch which I kept as a fail safe and the passive tone works for both the passive and active wiring. The active is a hotter signal, but rolling off the volume to 8 matches the full passive volume. I suppose you might wonder why would you need all this in a P, but this might be a good mod for you if you only have one axe. The active signal is lovely and really pumps when you slap and is very big for finger style, but is too modern for Motown type music. Flip the switch and hello James Jamerson. Best of both worlds. I'll get some photos up when I get my camera back. Cheers,

I've got a single Mighty Brite and can recommend it. It's l.e.d. so the light is clear and bright. The light emitted is shaped like a spot light on the stand so no overlighting or blinding, plus the flexible neck is really useful. £11.99 at my local complete with batteries. PM me if you want me to pick one up and send it to you. Cheers,

Andy is tops. I bought some 5 string jazz pups from him and didn't quite like the sound. He wound them a bit more for me for free. I just had to pay postage, and all done in under a week start to finish. Give him your business if you can. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
P.S. And don't even attempt to do the D'Angelo/?uestlove/Pino/Saadiq thing unless you want your brain to melt or you're such a bad mofo that you can't help yourself! Go here for elucidation - actually this is so badass I shall embed it:
That's lovely. I dig the drummer just playing snare, kick and floor tom. What else do you need for groove.

Sometimes know as pushing and pulling. Some Reggae is an example of the bass sitting behind the beat.

There's a crack converter's near where I work in Shipley. I'll pop in every few days to have a look around. I've printed off the list of items to look out for. This stuff will surface somewhere and there are hopefully enough of us dotted around the area to keep an eye out.
