1. Full set of gut strings. These came off the Duke when I purchased it from Rabbie. Lenzer plain gut G, D and wound A, and a Dluglolecki wound E. The Lenzers would be around £190 new from Thomann and the Dluglolecki would be around £120-ish after import and taxes. The plain guts were oiled regularly and are in great shape, still feel oily now after being stored for a year. The wound strings are in great shape too, the E shows more signs of wear than the A. I'd like to sell the set together if possible. £150 o.n.o shipped. UPDATE: All gone, thanks. Full set G string (fnar) D string A string E string
2. Price very negotiable type bump
3. SOLD locally. I bought this O1V to use as a monitor/in ears mixer for a project, but the project never took off. Selling this as it's not getting used. I played around with it and it all seems to work...automation, dials, lcd etc... The Stagg case is a bit ratty but works for storage/transport. I also have a hard copy of the manual. For sale £225 o.n.o. Collection from Wakefield or meet up within an hour's drive.
4.
Thanks for reply. The answers here are making me think about the Chadwick Folding Bass along with the Duke Composite. Chadwick has a very large following that swear by it. I believe Ed Friedland has one too and raved about them. I am waiting for an answer from Thomann about several basses including the Composite, so I will keep the ply option open too.
If you need a DB for travel then the Chadwick is a no-brainer. They have a proven track record from pros around the world. They may not have the acoustic loudness of some other basses, but reviews indicate they do fine and the travel convenince makes it all worth it. Plus, you can recoup much of the cost if/when you sell it on.
5. My Duke is loud and bassy, when it wore guts and now with Spiro weichs. It's different sounding than my hybrid which is a loud and shouty thing. I don't play rockabilly, but play country, punky rock originals and some jazz. It's a very resonant bass and throws a lot of sound. I have no experience with the composite basses but if they were better than wood, more people would probably be playing them. Ply and carved double basses can take quite a bit of abuse and any good luthier can work on them. I don't know how many luthiers would be prepared to work on a composite bass.
6. I think it's a "try and see" sort of thing. Basses all seem to respond differently. Spiro mittels choked my heavy hybrid bass, it likes Velvet Animas and Innovation Honeys which are lower tension. The unfortunate thing is that DB strings can be costly but if they don't work, you can usually get a fair amount of your money back selling them second hand.
7. I guess we now have our baseline.
8. They'd have to be plucky.
9. That's a great deal. Virtually the same as a F115 but an easier footprint.
10.
Thanks Tom. Just been enjoying the videos on your link there - pretty much the sort of thing I'm aspiring to, although minus the singing, I can't even sing and play the electric bass at the same time, or sing at all for that matter! As a bonus of getting this Stentor though, it was considerably cheaper than a Bassix, so holding on to my Sire 5er is looking like a distinct possibility - although it may still have to go on the one in, one out rule. I've been arguing its not a 'guitar' therefore that doesn't apply, but the fact its got strings, tuners and even a pickup is making that argument a bit tenuous...
See, a double bass also makes a lovey artistic addition to any room. So, you could argue it's a piece of art and/or furniture which therefor negates your need to sell anything Here is my art-filled front room as an example
11. There was one for sale here a little while back Maybe send the seller a pm and get their thoughts.
12. Andy purchased my Handbox R400 amp. Great comms, great to deal with and a really nice chap. Enjoy the amp
13. SOLD
14. Along with the comments above, the bass makes a difference to the strings too. I've had Spiro weichs on one bass that just didn't work, but on another bass they are fantastic. Getting something for all three playing styles will be tricky, but maybe look at putting together your own set from different singles. You may find most of what you need in the Innovation range, maybe just not all in one set.
15. Price drop bump £400 and I'll split postage costs. I'd prefer collection or meeting up within an hour or so from Wakefield.
16. Nice one. Enjoy
17. Surprised to hear F112 and "not deep" in the same sentence... Yes, maybe get played in a bit. If you have access to other amps, try them too. I've found that the F112 reflects the type of amp used so if an amp is "focused" with no real preshape, like an AI Focus, you need to dial in the depth with EQ or a pedal. The MB800 seems to already have that and I usually turn the bass down.
18. Congrats, you're on your way
19. Paul bought pedal from me. Great comms, and a very easy transaction. Great to deal with. Thanks again, Paul.
20.
Are only 2 of your bananas fair trade and the other ones couldn't care less about the working conditions of third world farmers? You sir, have semi - racist fruit. From U pick to Ukip.
Not semi-racist, but maybe skint and looking for a better existence. Bananas have a hard life. Speaking of fair trade, I may be open to offers of a trade for a nice P bass if that helps get this nice amp out of my equipment cupboard and onto the stage where it belongs, making lovely sounds. PM me any trade offers.
21. John built a custom loom for my 5 string jazz. He helped me every step of the way about options and how it would work up to instalation and help afterwards. His work is fantastic and he is very willing to help get you the right setup. Thanks again. My bass sounds great now
22. A hopefully not fruitless bump
