  1. Don’t mention Kelvin then.

June 1968, aged 17. In September I joined EMI on an engineering apprenticeship and a immediately went into the training school, one year of off the job training. From the moment I entered the training school, I never used imperial measurements. The engineering industry in the UK had already adopted the SI, more commonly known as metric system. I did not find it difficult and even at 73 can still easily do mental calculations to convert from the imperial system that I learned at school to the SI system that I used every day at work. Changing to the SI system and decimal currency was easy we all know how to count in tens, and I do wonder about the sense in teaching children in the third decade of the 21st-century there 12 times table. My good friend @Passinwindassured me some years ago that where he lived in northern Oregon there was no problem sourcing metric screw sizes.
  3. I love the Nexus and am surprised they are not shown more love.
  4. The received wisdom seems to be that guitars & basses use linear pots, despite the fact that our hearing is logarithmically responsive to sound. The reason is that the pots are not used as potential dividers. However, I put in some DiMarzio pickups into my bass a few years ago and saw that the DiMarzio wiring diagrams used logarithmic pots. After a long conversation over a few weeks with DiMarzio Tech Support, I wired it as instructed and found that volume and tone worked well with adjustment at all around the rotation of the pots. I have since used that same circuits on about 8 basses with the same results.
  5. I don't know if you have fixed this but to me that looks like two issues, firstly the pic with the red arrows seems to indicate broken tracks alongside the DC connector's solder pads. The remedy for this is to solder a piece of wire between the two closest pads. Secondly, the patch to the left indicates a liquid ingress. If you would like me to have a look, PM me .
  6. Yes you need another one. Seriously though, I have too many projects on the go, so that is why I am selling.
  7. I have to say that my Monza is not lacking in any way. It is a very early one and still rocks my socks.
  8. I believe that the early ones had a smaller port and crossed over at about 2KHz. @stevieis using a different compression driver now that allows the crossover frequency to be lower. Mine is an early one.
  9. £179 new from Andertons. You may need to drop the price a tad.
  10. That looks like it uses the amp section from the original Rootmaster series. That was a class A/B amp, although the 500 and 800 versions were class D.
  11. I will check the back tomorrow to see if it is really damaged but I do not remember it like that.
  12. I have now added the extra pics so will bump.
  13. i think you bought it from me, and I have since had many basses that were not as good. I fitted the Gotoh battery box as I was fed up keep unscrewing it to change the battery. You can still see it in my avatar. Good luck with the sale.
  14. Pickups, Bridge are included as well. I have the Roland pickup too and happy to include that at the asking price. I will add pics tomorrow afternoon. One of the pickup/pickup rings is damaged although being away at the moment I cannot inspect it to confirm. I was going to replace the pickups when I was going to refurb it myself. I think it is the pickups itself but cannot be sure.
  15. I Bought this on a whim on eBay. As far as I can see, the FB series were originally made in Japan, but the production switched to South Korea. I believe that this is a Korean made bass. The oddity is that it looks like the neck has been coated in some way. It frets and plays fine but looks a little odd straight on. The Neck seems to be a typical P type, with 42mm nut width and I suspect a chunky D profile. The pointy end of the headstock was broken when shipped to me, but it has been glued back on. It looks like there is a lot of wear on the back, but I do not remember it and as I am away until Monday, I cannot check. There are some filled holes (blue) on the back of the head stock, I have no idea why. If I kept it, I would get a new bridge and some new knobs. You might have other ideas.
  16. wanted a "Jack" and bought this a few years ago, I knew it was a project but was surprised at how much refinishing/modding the bass needed. I do not have the time to work on this, so maybe someone else could try? The body has been heavily modified to take a Roland Midi/Synth pickup. There are three areas that need repairing, the pickup gouge, just in front of the bridge then the extra holes for the mini switches and finally the whole near the output jack where the midi pickup was connected to the "brain". I still have the midi pickup and electronics if anyone wants them (£20) There are also a few light scratches over the body and a small dent in the back of the neck. The Steinberger bridge works fine, and it comes complete with some old, but just about usable, double ball-end strings. The pickups are licensed EMGs and the bass is very playable from what I have seen. It looks like the frets have been levelled, but not properly crowned from the picture but they may just need a good polish. Fret wear is small, and the truss rod moves easily, both ways. Any questions, please ask. Shipping will be about £20.
  17. What is the current firmware version?
  18. Those Tone Wood activists just won’t Lego…
  19. Me too, do I need a stack? No. Do I want one? Yes. However don’t tell @stevie
  20. It uses the same 700AS1 ICEPower module as the Ashdown and Mesa models that either claim 800 watts or have 800 in the model number, so RM800 all Evos. Mesa Subway D800 series plus Ashdown Retroglide 800. There will be others that I do not know about.
  21. I asked Thomann and they said that the power section was the same on the current version.
  22. Around 1969-70 I was invited, with others, to the home of a girl I knew. Her father was chief flautist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. In the loungs, was a very nice turntable next to a Leak amplifier and in two corners, two horns atop concrete plinths rose up from the floor. I asked about them and were told that they were Lowther drivers, set in concrete. I believe they were 8". Of course the father played classical music on them, but we played Hendrix, Cream etc along with some electric folk. I have never heard any of those albums sound better. I have to add the caveats that it was a long time ago and maybe my ears were not a well-trained then (I later worked at the EMI record factory and EMI research labs). However, this was a stereo amp giving 30 Watts per channel and those speakers were so sensitive. You must also add that in those days we never heard the lows of the base owing to the equipment at the time and the quality of the playback equipment. Being a Flautist, I assume he (or rather his speakers) had some kind of tweeter in each side, as I do not remember any lack of top end.
  23. I think, thank goodness the finger noise is gone.
  24. @Woodinblack, Are your Evox still under warranty? I have never had any RCF products so do not know how well there are supported in the UK, hopefully better than the orange Italian brand.
