1. On the flip side of the coin. I sold an iPhone 4 on eBay. Buyer received the phone & emailed me to say how pleased he was with it, "exactly as described". Four weeks later he files a claim for item not as described, says he can't get a good signal & the phone rattles when he shakes it. I provide paypal with a copy of his email saying how pleased he was & point them to the positive feedback he left. I lost the case & was forced to refund. What was returned was a knackered iPhone with dents that were clearly not there in the auction pics. Paypal didnt want to know & refunded £420 from my account. I ended up filing a case with the Financial Services Ombudsman to get my money back. By eBays own admission they settle in favour of the buyer in the majority of cases.
2.
I don't give a damn about what YOU agree with. The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine. There is I feel a tendency to want to be popular and side with and support the OP in this matter but in reality that isn't helpful. As for comments like 'Out of interest can you name & shame the buyer, he has a place reserved in my banned bidders list'. I do wonder. We have one side of a story and as is not unusual on BC folk are forming a lynch mob. Get real Peter
I don't give a damn about what YOU wonder about. The OP asked for opinions & gave mine.
3. Unquestionably he sounds like a chancer & I know it's really frustrating when you know it but have to convince Paypal. If it all goes wrong you know his address & I know someone who can get you a gun .
4. This bass has been on eBay since well before Christmas, I think the original BiN was in excess of £1200. As others have said, G&Ls with the original headstock are creeping up in price but there is no real "pre-BBE" market outside the minds of opportunistic sellers. The complete lack of interest in the bass should tell the seller that he has seriously mis-judged the market.
5. I wish I could be as confident as everyone else, but I can't. Ebay & Paypal are bastards to sellers in dispute cases, they almost always find in the buyers favour. In the shell of a nut, unless you describe in detail any cosmetic/functional issues with an item then Paypal will expect it to be perfect, it it aint they cite "non-disclosure" & you lose. The buyer is clearly a dick if he expects a case to be perfect & he should have checked first, but ebay don't go with the Caveat emptor approach. I speak from first-hand experience. I think Paypal will take the usual spineless approach & instruct you to refund. You can dig your heels in & fight to delay matters but the chances are the little twat will be out gigging your bass & treating it like crap for a couple of months in the meantime. Out of interest can you name & shame the buyer, he has a place reserved in my banned bidders list. Good luck & keep us posted.
6. This is a really good price, if I were near it would be sold.
7. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Jazz-Bass-50t...e#ht_500wt_1156 Mucho BS pricing but the description of the strings made me laugh.
8. I had the 4 string version, superb bass in every respect. A boutique Stingray for Stingray money, you won't be disappointed.
9. Nice - hand't even realised they were making 75 reissues in 1985.
10. Hi, nice bass & very Jaco. Forum rules are that you must state an asking price though.
11. Need to get this in to the hands of someone who will use it. Call it £1450, you'll never get a better Jazz at this price.
12.
"I bought a sh*t bass with a twisted neck. What will I do? I know make up some sh*t about it and flog it for profit". He should go back to his "luthier" and tell him that aircraft propellers have been adopted universally (well globally at least) ..... on aircraft.
It wont have been sh*t when it was made. Jim makes fantastic, if a little idiosyncratic, guitars & his strat pickups remain personal favorites of mine.
13. Well it's pretty much what it owed me so I wanted to pass the love on. I have my eye on something at the moment so needed to move it & my Lakland on, otherwise I'd have kept it.
14. Lol - sorry mate. Would love to keep this but a Ricky c64 is calling me.
15. Sold, thanks for all the interest folks. Piccies;
16. New pictures type bump.
17. In answer to a few PMs, weight is 9lbs on the bathroom scales.
18. Okay, I bought this bass off Birdy a few weeks back but love has not blossomed , no reflection on Birdy - right bass, wrong player. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...&hl=lakland Teal green metallic finish with matching headstock, binding and blocks, PJ pickups & stack knobs. I priced this up on Lakland's website & you would be looking at about £4300 to order a new one. I always thought "no Jazz is worth four figures" but this has made me change my mind. It is a GREAT jazz bass, superb build quality, great neck & great range of sounds - having seen & played it I now "get" why someone would pay so much for Jazz. For reasons I can't quite put my finger on it's just not for me though. Condition is as per Birdy's thread & it has the lush Lakland case & the tools. I'm asking for what I have in it which is £1500. Happy to pack it if you want it shipped but would you organise your own courier to collect please. Local pick up or try out is more than welcome. EDIT - Looking for a straight sale now, something has caught my eye
19.
So this is increasing in price....
Get in now, whilst you can still afford it!
20. A little tale about Mr Vigier, if you'll indulge me. About 20 years ago I knew a guy who had a lovely Vigier bass, one night he tripped over his lead, yanked the bass of it's stand & took about a 4 inch area of paint clean off it. He was pretty heartbroken. Anyway, a year or so later he sent the bass back to Mr Vigier for a re-fret. When the bass came back it had been completely refinished & had a note in the case to the effect "thought you would appreciate having it back to new, no charge, regards PV".
21. Great player, will be sorely missed.
22. Thanks for all the kind words guys, the 'ray is now on hold.
23. If Pete's pre-EB is an '82 I suspect it wont have a string thru bridge either.
