  1. Is it that simple? I'd have thought that the volume in the port would need to be halved, too, as it's the cabinet resonance you're trying to harness. IIRC, the port should be tuned to just below the resonant frequency of the cabinet for "best" performance (optimum contribution, I presume!)
  2. The title has a typo. It was meant to be " You can only keep 11", but the OP caught the shift key. Nonetheless, 11 represents an unacceptable degree of down-sizing.
  3. Not all of the issues I've mentioned have even affected me. It's what I've seen and heard of. Warwick have changed over to regular strap buttons, and the Just-a-nut (JAN III) has long since superceded its fragile predecessor. If you were buying new, neither of these would be an issue. I'd have another Warwick (new or used) without a second thought.
  4. Can't comment on Mayones, but the one issue I've had in many years of multiple Warwick ownership was a tuner that stripped its innards and promptly exploded without warning. Don't be put off by that. Particularly since I had a proper replacement delivered in 48 hours and installed in 10 minutes. Generally rock-solid instruments, but with the advantage of easy-to-source spares and they're easy to work on. Beware the barrel jack-sockets, they can work loose. The Just-a-nut II is fragile, and vastly inferior to both the I and III. And the old school recessed straplocks can supposedly cause the bodies to crack. I've not experienced any of these, though. The construction is very robust, but functional rather than elegant. The necks are pretty stable. Some of the pickup/EQ combinations are arguably a trifle bland sounding- but some designs (Dolphin, Infinity, Thumb) don't seem to suffer from this, in spite of using ostensibly the same parts as some other Warwicks. Maybe it's the wood choice and pickup placement.
  5. Same year as the Fortress I've got.. Does it still work with just the one 9v? Maybe a trim-pot instead or (whisper it) turn the volume control down? That's what I do with my Vigier. That's 18v and can be a bit "peaky" rather than particularly hot (yes, I know compressors exist!)
  6. That's interesting; Suggests that the active MECs can only take 9v... Assuming that you have MECs and not EMGs!
  7. I thought her name was Amanda?
  8. Thanks for the replies everyone. From what I've ascertained, the MEC circuit (and presumably the active component of the pickup) will not handle 18v, so series is out of the question. I'll have a nose around the Warwick Forums and see what I can uncover. Alas that I don't have a multimeter, or I'd have a quick measure across the output whilst playing.
  9. I forgot about the SBV. They even look good the wrong way up!
  10. Loving that Flashback. Never seen a red one, mostly green or blue! I also like the black hardware on the Masterman.
  11. Thanks for that. Forgot about Warwick Forums! So you've got a One, Masterman AND a Flashback, then? Did they do a Pro-M, or was that just Streamers?
  12. Dare I say Rickenbacker 4003?
  13. I guess it's the Warwick Corvette you're not liking... So anything that's passive and 2x single coils counts? Hmm. I'll have a think.
  14. Pau Ferro on Shoreline gold is a nice combo on the Roscoe Beck..
  15. Whilst it's unacceptable, I mightn't send it back. I'd find a luthier, who'd doubtless remove the hardware, pop some decent glue in there and clamp it for a day or so... Job done. The bass you get in exchange might have other issues...
  16. As per the title, I guess! I've a Warwick Fortress Masterman 5. It has the MEC active twin Jazz (also used in the Infinity, Dolphin & Vampyre at the very least) In this application, it has a Volume & Pan (stacked) , and a Bass/Treble (also stacked) for EACH coil. As far as I'm aware, the MEC active 2-band won't run at 18v, so series connection of two 9v batteries is out. There's enough room for 2 9v blocks in the cavity if I remove the original single holder. I'm sure I can improvise something that'll hold a pair. What am I trying to achieve? A bit more headroom, I think. It can all sound a bit compressed sometimes. Battery life is ok. I don't need to double it! Does series connection double the voltage and parallel double the available current? Anyone with a bit of knowledge, feel free to chime in! Thanks in advance, Alex.
  17. Just stick a magic tree in the accessory compartment! Huge choice of flavours, even some wooden ones!
  18. I can never get anything to sound right (to me) unless it has a tap tempo function. Then it just slots right in, reverb in particular.
  19. Depends how you practice. I like to jam along to songs, so I like a stereo line in that I can mix to taste. I have a Zoom b3, but it lacks that facility. I've used a Korg Pandora PX4d, but it's pots are worn out. I've settled on a cheap multi-track mixing desk. It may have no built in fx, but it does have a blendable loop, and if you want a stomp box as a front end, it can deliver 48v phantom power if needed, so only one cable to the box. Keeps it tidy. It's also really clean-sounding, is all analogue and can really drive a "proper" pair of headphones. Best part is its flexibility. It's been partnered with various stomp boxes and pre-amps, myriad different basses, fed power amps to drive cabs. There's not a device that I can't patch into it one way or another. It's about 30cm² by about 5 cm deep and sits on a desk in the corner, permanently ready to go. If I record again, I'll take it along just as a personal headphone monitor mixer. I've had problems with the sound I've had back from the desk before, and this would have eliminated that, too.
  20. Me, too.
  21. Pretty much. But may include anything that the owner percieves to be an upgrade, including, but not limited to; Pickups, Neck swaps, bridge replacements, active EQ, passive modifications (as per the Kiogon loom), Tuner changes, other aesthetic or functional alterations.. Many companies sell such items, Sadowsky being a fine example. I'd suggest that the only aspects that would prevent a bass being described as a "super jazz" would be a move away from 2 single coils in loosely the correct position and the retention of some sort of offset body shape.
  22. Best I could manage! The only non-black bits are the Vigier/Benedetti logos, frets, strings and the EQ switch. The neck and headstock are painted, too (but aren't in shot) Can't take photos at the mo' as my phone camera has given up 🙄
  23. A Tony Levin 3 string 'Ray, please MM. (Yes, I know there was only one. And it's a bit burnt now 😓)
  24. No matter how bad the assorted beverages of Watney Combe & Reid may have been, they could never be as dreadful as my experiences with some Warwick Strings (Reds and EMPs) Yellows are alright. As for the £6 six sets, are the gauges as arbitrary as the lettering on the packaging?
