1.
Ernie Ball Cobalts are quite round wound sounding.
In fact too much so for my liking!
2.
I'm not sure I'd want -2dB at 30Hz without some sort or protection!
3. Bruno Mars - cheesey? Ah well, one man's cheese is another man's cracker...
4.
You could start by looking at the gear Mike Dirnt uses. His cabs appear to mostly be 410 an 610. http://equipboard.com/pros/mike-dirnt
I don't expect Mike Dirnt has to carry his cabs up the back stairs of a social club, or through a crowd of drunken punters and past a taxi rank to where his hatchback is parked on double yellow lines with the hazards on. Just sayin'
5.
Best of Dave's World of Fun Stuff (Funny Moments), also worth a watch if you've not seen it.... LOL
That gave me some LOLs, ROFLs, and LMAOs
6. I had the later 'Pro' version, which was excellent - these are reputed to be even better! GLWTS
7.
The CTM-15 is an all-valve job though... could still be quite hefty!
Don't forget to fetch your coat...
8. Ross sent me a broken tuner to have a go at fixing, wouldn't even take postage money!
9. I'd be tempted to keep the head and run it through a more efficient cab, and just sell the original cab for whatever I could get for it.
10. Subscribed (albeit late to the party).
11. I have the exact same Tele but in much less relic'd condition!
12. I've put this in my calendar - unlikely to get a gig on a Sunday!
13. Looks lovely! Sound clips?
14. I was a long-term Ashdown user until about 5 years ago, when I made the switch to Barefaced cabs and (mainly) light-weight Class D heads. I have considered trying an Ashdown head with my BF cabs, but I don't really care for the EQ arrangement - I prefer 3 or 4 tone controls at most. I suggest you pick up a used head in the BC Market Place - try it, and if you don't like it, move it on at little or no net cost.
15. WTAF? And a cassette - how quaint!
16. On Friday night I was playing a pub with a rock covers trio. We had just gone back on after the break when a lady of a certain age approached the stage area and asked, ‘Are you the band?’ I swiftly replied, ‘No, we’re painters and decorators’.
17. I don't have virtuoso technical ability, but as a semi-pro I get dep gigs because I (1) can hold down a groove; (2) play for the the songs; and (3) turn up on time. I expect this experience would hold equally true in the fully pro world.
18.
Another alternative is to use online mastering - I have had excellent results from here: https://ariamastering.com but as in standard mastering, the better the mix the better the master.
I ran a track through LANDR with good results but you can only do 2 per month FOC, you have to pay for any more than that.
19. Thanks all, I will give some of those a try.
20. To me, tort only looks good against white. I've gone for gold based on this MIM currently in Bass Direct:
21.
If 2TSB is non-negotiable then ignore this. There is 50s MIM P in black at Bass Direct for £600; it's been there for a while so a better deal may be available: http://www.bassdirec...0s_Special.html
Oooh! Tempted myself...
22. I enjoy a bit of home recording, normally short demos that I put on my website*, but I have never got to grips with mastering and I'm wondering where to start. Can anyone recommend any free or inexpensive plugins that I can try - multi-band compressors, clever EQs etc? I am using Reaper. Cheers *See link below - if you want to hear some of my un-mastered efforts, go to the 'Guitar' and 'Bass' pages.
23. Got any hen's teeth? Or rocking horse poo? GLWTS!
