I have a Class D all-solid-state head and really like it, but fancy the idea of something from the Ampeg stable with a valve front end and a Mosfet power stage. This of course leads me to consider the SVT 3 Pro, and indeed its predecessor the SVT III Pro. So, if you own or have owned one, tell your BC chums - what's hot, what's not, what does it excel at, what does it struggle with, can you proudly say 'this is the Ampeg sound', and finally - any epic fails?
I thought the LB had just a single vol control ie not a separate gain & master vol?
You're right, I am mixing it up with the PF500 that I also tried. So, volume was at 2pm. Seems like it was that cab.
Yeah, that amp fried on me during rehearsal, a couple months after making that video. I got an SVT-CL head now and use the PF-500 as a backup.
Sorry to hear that, hope you got your money back, and hope you didn't mind me calling you 'some dude'!
Not from Crook in County Durham. Not evn the same continent I'm from Montreal, Canada.
I actually meant DarkHeart - he has Crook as his location beneath his avatar.

South East Bass Bash No.7, Surrey, Saturday 21st September 2013
JapanAxe replied to silverfoxnik's topic in Events
Already bringing a Tele in case someone wants to buy it - you're all welcome to have a go on it, if only because I hope you will be stricken with skinny-string GAS! -
My July 1989 issue of Guitarist magazine (yes, I have every one!) contains a review of the Blade B4 bass. It is a light ash 'J' lookalike, with front-mounted passive volume, tone and pan controls, plus a coil-tap switch. In the back is a circuit-board with trim pots for a notch filter for each pickup (to take out mains hum), and a 3-band active EQ. So - not this one then?

I can't thank Jools enough for my first hearing of the Secret Sisters. But I find it hard to forgive him for playing boogie-woogie piano over every act that he pals up with. -

As previously mentioned, I have room to transport at least one person, possibly 2, in my big feck-off estate - depending on the kit you intend to bring, obviously! I am travelling from Swindon, so will pass Reading, Slough, Windsor etc. If you were thinking of coming but have no transport, or want to save a few bob by sharing fuel costs, PM me with your mobile number. -

I have a Pod 2.0 and have tried it through a PA a couple of times. A bass amp and speaker would probably colour the sound more. I found the main problems were: (1) Sounds that were great at home were way too bassy live, i.e. at volume; (2) Big variations in level between patches; and worst, (3) A lack of dynamic range, meaning I couldn't cut through the mix when I wanted to.

Excellent! Great band and legend combined.
I can't understand why they couldn't fit a tone control, you have 2 knobs one does a 5 position rotary pickup switch and the other volume but no feck'en tone!! Idjits!
+1! Surely the most important control. Won't be queueing for this one.

When a pedal is stomped on, click sound through amp.
JapanAxe replied to pendingrequests's topic in Effects
I do get a bit of click from my MXR Carbon Copy (in my guitar rig btw) as it's a mechanical switch, also last in the chain. But not enough to send me looking for solutions. It's normal, whereas buffered switching (as in Boss pedals) is usually close to silent. -
Just brought up a pic of an RBX270J. The bridge looks no better or worse than what you find on MIM Fenders. Check the dimensions, but it looks like a Gotoh Contemporary would fit the bill for a chunkier bridge:

Congratulations! You can pretty much rely on Yamaha to be well sorted in the build department. Regarding the bridge, take some measurements of base-plate size and screw hole positions, than have a look at WD Music and Axes'r'Us.

How do you stop your lightweight amp from wandering off?
JapanAxe replied to a topic in General Discussion
Closed cell foam from ebay, cut with a stanley knife and holes made by hand with a large drillbit:
Now that is neat! I too used that non-slip-mat stuff to stop an IEM transmitter from plummeting from the top of my bass stack (at that time, an Ashdown ABM rig). I still use a piece between my TC head and BF cab(s) but I'm wondering now whether I really need to. I have put bigger feet on my TC so that it will clear the Midget's handle, but they are cut-down door-stops, and are made of hard plastic rather than non-slip rubber. For this reason, even if the cab shouldn't vibrate, I don't want to risk it. Plus the bass drum pedal about 4ft away could just as easily be the culprit! -

Can anyone help with this? Frustrated :(

Feeling a bit cross with myself that I compromised on this bit of technique. I recall when I moved from plectrum to fingerstyle - it just seemed impossible at first, but I kept at it it and one day it just clicked. -
My 2 active basses don't have a passive switch, so can't be that common ^_^
No it's not. Big selling point for me! G&L - fully passive treble and bass controls, active mode adds a preamp with a preset boost/contour. Sandberg - passive mode ignore bass pot, treble pot now only effective over lower half of range (i.e. cut only), but blend still works (yay!)
Anyone got a spare slot in a stand for my Warmoth Antigua P-J bass?
I am planning on bringing more stands than basses. Will be nice to see you again Rob. -

Try the P into something else, maybe a practice amp or a DAW. Does it still sound bad? Also on a P pickup I like to back off the part of the pickup under the low E by putting a couple of clockwise turns on the pickup mounting screw furthest from the floor - this puts that half of the pickup on a tilt, and stops the E string overpowering the others. You can also do the opposite on the far side of the strings if you have a weak G. -
Tried a LB30 in PMT Bristol yesterday, through a massive Orange 1x15 cab (OBC115 I think). Disappointingly quiet I have to say. This was with a meaty passive bass (Yamaha BB714BS), gain at 3 o'clock, master at 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock. I assume there was some sort of problem, or maybe the cab was not very efficient.
