I'd be wary of any teacher who imposes a "This is the right technique" regime - what's not right for him may be very comfortable & natural for you. There are plenty of excellent players who's techniques are very idiosyncratic & would be frowned at by the "Correct Technique Nazis"..
Yeah look at Fleas slap technique! his thumb is down not across. doesnt stop him being amazing at slap. Every time I see the name RhysP it reminds me of my mate called Rhys D who is a snowboarder. anyways...
2. Im in a quite happy smiley mood and want to learn a new song. Just been playing and singing along to Heroes by Bowie. Can you recomend me some songs to learn? Basically I want them to be pretty songs easy to sing (im a terrible singer) Nothing too complex bass wise (I strugle multitasking singing and bass) something that sounds nice with just bass and vocals Any recomendations would be great. Im into: Bowie RHCP The Doors (doesnt have a bassist so ill strugle haha) killers kings of leon Johnny Cash Joy Division The Who Stone Roses Oh and before someone mentions it. Not Pea by Flea. Thanks Jobie

4. Be careful if you buy OBBM cables. Its a word of warning. Your mates WILL steal them from you. They are that good. I aint seen my 10 foot one for over a year now.
5.
I have a '78 fretless P for sale. It has a tobacco sunburst body and maple neck. It is very nearly perfect nick. Any decent offer considered. Davo
OH MY GOD! That neck is to die for.
6. THEY ARE AMAZING. They increase your sustain HUGELY, they look AMAZING, you dont get saddle wobble like the bent bit of tin Fender used, I bought one for my Jazz and its made SO MUCH diffrence its untrue. Reality: I only noticed the a slight dif on the sustain, but that might just be me thinking it helps loads rathen then it doing loads. It was a MIM Jazz, I havent noticed much dif changing to a BA on more expensive basses. They do look good. Result: Get one if you like the look of them. they are nice things and it does stop the saddles moving.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VppuD1St8Ec Just about anything by Talk Talk! Jennifer
Any chnace you have a tab or preferably guitar pro tab for that Bowie song? I grew up on Labyrinth. Its one of my fav films. Plus I have a fretless bass thats not getting any use. haha.
8. I remember that ad, remembered thinking... God I really want a Aerodyne Jazz. haha.
9. No idea sorry, I used tabs for a long time until I descovered Guitar Pro tabs which are far more acurate then tabs, but once again its still a tab in essesnce
10. Ive not played a crapish bass in a long while. but I picked up a squire P today to take on holiday with me. got it from basschatter 2x12 (sound bloke) and played it thru my rig. its really nice. ok... nowhere near my Shuker but my god it sounds well for something I paid very little for. This is the first time ive really realised that the amp means a lot more then the bass for tone.

12. Noticed 2x15 didnt have feedback so started a new thread. Just bought a squire off him. Nice bloke, very easy to deal with and very friendly. Spot on. Cheers Will. Chris
13.
I agree with SS, sounds like there's something going on with the wiring/pre here. Without the battery you should get bugger all sound and with the battery you should get a healthy dollop of cut and boost on the bass/mid/treble knobs. Get a tech to have a look see.
Well if thats correct then the fact its playing passive means it has a bad earth or has been rewired right? +1 on the tech. it will be well worth your while to pop it in somwhere and have a word with them about it. Make sure its a good tech tho, im sure if you tell people on here where you live they will tell you a good tech in your area.
14. I always wondered who he was. His Flea bass with his cool little logo on the 12th fret was on sale on here not long back.

16.
I did six months in Grenoble in 2006 (no, not skiing, engineering - it was in the summer). When I arrived I just wenth through all of the second hand junk shops till I found a bass that I liked. When I left I gave it away, it was cheap enough. EDIT Saying that, I wasnt doing gigs with it so maybe not the best idea for you.
Had a quick look but couldnt find any music shops in Meribel. Im not gigging out there, im working in the kitchen of a pizza express thats attached to the nightclub. Just going out for the snowboarding really but id miss my bass too much if I didnt take one. Just want something to have a play about with when I cant ride that day. Plus I think one of the guys is taking his guitar too. which leads to another point, I need some type of amplification. Might buy one of those crappy guitar clip on things Jack Black uses in School of Rock, will sound TERRIBLE but at least its noise.
17. Those Vintage Modified are quite nice actually. Id really consider one of those if I could find one cheap enough. Just looking for something with a nice action and nice neck profile, it'll prob get sold on when I get home anyways but I dont wanna loose money on it if I can help it. I recs I could bubble wrap the sh*t out of any bass and take it in my board bag no problem at all. but living with a load of people in a nightclub might have its drawbacks, im not always gonna be around when people are in my room. I dont really want them messing about with my shuker, its my pride and joy.
18. Ive been offered a job at a ski resort for the winter in Meribel France. Dicks Tea Bar nightclub if any of you are out there this season. I want to take a bass with me but I only have my Shuker and my fretless left after i sold my others. I dont really fancy taking my shuker cause I dont want to damage it, and My fretless needs some work to make it work right (wiring itsnt great and cuts out, needs the action sorting hugely) So im wondering, should I buy a new bass to take with me or should I bubble wrap the hell out of my shuker and take it in 2 bits? Im not exactly flush at the mo so I dont really wanna buy anything too expensive to take out there, and in all honesty I dont really want a new bass becuase im REALLY happy with my shuker. I wouldnt mind a Geddy Lee tho, I suppose I could buy a cheep one of those and take that, can always sell it again when I get home. How much do they go for 2nd hand? Cheep geddy? cheep MIM jazz or something? take my shuker? Or does someone wanna lend me a bass for the winter? haha Cheers
19. would something else acompany this to make it a EMG pre then?
20. Sorry if this is the wrong forum, please feel free to move it mods. I got given this from Eude when I bought his shuker. It originally had an EMG pre but then was replaced with a ACG pre. I really dont have a clue how electronics work but I was pretty sure the pre's have those green chip board things with them. What do I have here? do I have an EMG pre or do I just have 3 pots + knobs? says 15a25k 0614q on one, 15a25k 0608q on the other 2 pots. was thinking about selling it cause I have no use for it, but its kinda hard to list something I know nothing about. Thanks.
21. well TBH, cash wise, you would be better off buying a 2nd hand bass for around £500 then a new crappy starter bass. You will never get your initial cash back when you come to sell a crappy starter bass but if you get a 2nd hand bass at a reasonable price they will keep their value in general. The only bass ive lost money on is my first ever bass. I must have had 6-7 2nd hand basses around the £500-1.5k mark and always got my money back on them (not inc postage)
22. Looking at it again im wondering if he did a very light coat and let it dry then did another coat over the top.
