1. hahaha, I clicked onto this holding a bit of metal I unscrewed from my rack today. didnt previously know what it was untill I read that. for some reason I only have the bigger bit and not the smaller bit. if anyone wants it your more then happy to collect it or send me postage costs.
2.
Ha ha! I hardly think hard drugs are stupid. All those particpants can't be wrong.
+2 ...apart from the smack/crack heads. those guys are loosers... well the poor ones are, Jim Morrison was a legend.
3. Just waiting to hear if I got a job in the Morris Pub in Val D'isere, my mate got offered the bar manager job so hes gonna try and wangle me a job behind the bar. The problem is this, last season my mate was out there and his friend had an acoustic guitar, his other mate played in a band 2 nights a week and had a lovely Natural MM Sterling. Im not going to have an amp to play thru out there, its gonna be played in my hotel room but it is a possibility I might get on stage a few times over the 6 months using someone elses bass amp (which could mean I could borrow their bass too) do I.. a: Buy a crap acoustic (£50 ebay jobby) when im out there and get it delivered to the bar? more then likely leaving it at the bar when I leave b: Buy a decent acoustic over here and ship it over with me, which is going to cost as ill have a huge suitcase, and a snowboard bag too. c: Take my Shuker, with same thing as above. d: something ive not thought of. Edit: btw, id pine over my Shuker every waking second if I didnt take it, but id stress every waking moment about it getting broken in transit. plus its very unpractical to play it unplugged in a hotel above a bar cause its doubtful id hear it.
4.
Cheers! Yup! They are a matched pair, even jon doesn,t know how to tell them apart. They are signed under the scratchplates and numbered 1 and 2, they have dual jack plugs like rics but one is for output without leds down the neck lit up and the other with the leds on.
Thats fantastic. Do you have a build thread for this? I had a quick search and couldnt find it. Got so many questions. Why 2 identical? I know some people like having a back up on stage but identical? Do you favour one to the other? or do you play them equally? Is one tuned difrent?
5. You cant have learnt EVERY song from RHCP, there are millions! (slight exageration) My favs are: Mellowship slinky in magor B Soul to squeeze Cant stop Pretty Little Ditty My friends Aeroplane Naked in the Rain Californication.
6. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for it, Im sick of getting together my mates and not acomplishing anything. my guitard usually sits there and plays something random and ill pick up the roots and create something round it and the drummer makes it up as he goes along. The guitard always asks me if ive wrote anything but I havent got the first clue where to start, ive always just got the roots from what he plays and created somethign that compliments the tune of the guitar. How would I go about doing it the other way around? I create little dittys but it never seams "good enough" to put guitar to. Take for eg if id write a bassline like I wanna be adored by stone roses where its the same throughout the song, he cant work with that. or even something simple like Stooges with I wanna be your dog with simple bass with a slight change for the chorus. its just not acceptable. hes a very tallented guitard and musician in general on a multiple of instuments so i dont want to 2nd guess him as I have no experiance of writing my own stuff from scratch. The only things we play is generally 4 chords over 4 bars, maybe twice, bit of a chorus n back into it. how would I have to structure it so I dont change chord in the 4 bars? just a simple loop if you get me. Sorry, loads of questions, and I havent worded it well. If you could point me towards a book to read, things to learn etc id be more then greatful.
7. Electro have had a few in but they never stay in there long, ive not seen one in there without a sold sign on it. South yorks is terrible to find musicmans in general, Electro always have 1-2 'rays in but very seldom have anything else in. Sheffield music shops are terrible. Id head out of s/yorks if I was you, ring around some places find one and drive over. But... if your thinking of buying one 2nd hand, they keep their 2nd hand value very well, so if you have the cash spare, buy one 2nd hand if you dont like it sell it on. I kept mine for only 3 months and made £100 on it selling it via ebay. I bought it on a whim without playing it first and they are fantastic. I love bongos and if it wasnt for the fact I cant stand the neck pickup as I find it hard to slap (and it had 1 too many strings) I would have kept it much longer. Edit: Id love a bongo 4H if anyones selling one?
8.
ERNIE BALL BASSES: Built well, look good, but sound like garbage. A cottonball has more sustain than any Ernie Ball I've ever played. ANYTHING BY FENDER: Look good, sound somewhat 'tolerable'. The U.S.-made models are waayyyyyy over-priced. The active models have no character. The Mexican models aren't much better but you can work with them. The best value for your money is the Vintage Squier models, half the price or less, and respectable sound quality.
Ernie ball... Sound amazing, especialy the Ray and Bongo. And the sustain is emence compared to Fenders imho, more sustain then I would know what to do with. I 100% agree about fender.
9.
heh, I had a problem with the top string rolling off the edge of the board (probably because I use light strings) on both 5 string Bongos I had, so I moved it inboard slightly by modding the nut. No such problems with the 4 string versions though.
I wondered why my nut was moddified when I got my 5HS, I thought someone had broken it and fixed it lol. The output should be stupidly high, it was rare I had mine more then half way and I play all my basses up full usually. If you have changed the batteries then I really dont know whats up there. re the B, the bongo was the best 5er ive ever played in regards to the B, I was using Elixirs though, I have a elixir B string hanging around somewhere if you want to try it out? PM me your address and ill post it out to you.
10. Awesome, Cheers Dood! I think I was just going mental, the strings coming off the bridge look like its practically touching the fretboard so I was wondering how that worked. im guessing its a little further then I think.
11.
peter hook
I met him last year. propper sound bloke. I got a pic with him altho it was in a club and on a cam phone so it came out sketchy. what got me started was my mate who got a 5string and wanted rid of it for a guitar, so I bought it off him thinking "yes, im gonna learn some Doors" but then shortly after realising the Doors doesnt have a bassist, moved onto other things.
12. 3rd post. sorry. can anyone tell me how this fretboard works? looks like the strings where you'd normally play are only a few mm from the f/board, does that even work?
13. Oh yeah, I bought this off Eude. If there was a way to have sex with it I would. (stole your pic Eude, mine are all grainy as hell, hope you dont mind)
14.
I wondered where this thread went!. Most people have already seen and heard about these but here they are again.
I played spot the difference with these... I lost. did you get 2 identical basses made or am I missing something? BTW, BEAUTIFUL!
15. I cant play 5 strings but id seriously consider buying this bass. Why the hell would you sell it? REALLY? are you mental?
16. I turned up on my own tbh. But everyone was really friendly and warming. Just wish there was another bash up north again cause I really dont fancy London for the next one.
17.
Quite tempted on an aerodyne, problem is I have no decent music shops close that I can try anything in
Ive never heard a bad word about them. I was gas'ing for one for ages until I got this shuker (which looks a lot like it actually except its just got jazz pups) Looks like they keep their value a LOT too, £600 new, £500 2nd hand. I was really tempted to buy it new even without hearing it first.
18. The knob surround would suggest a Musicman Saber without a scratchplate? and no mutes on the bridge?
19. If you can find one 2nd hand for cheep. Id LOVE to own one of these. Edit: I just gave myself GAS
20. After I got my Shuker I got rid of my other basses. Now thats a GAS curer if ive ever seen one. (altho I would love another Shuker with a MMJ set up for pickups.)
21. My Shuker, similer shuker with MMJ pickups with blue flamed top, Bongo 4H with a ray neck (or unpainted neck like a ray) im happy with my rig. Ampeg SVT3 pro - 610hlf cab.
