1. If I ever see a Mark Hoppus bass in a shop, I'll certainly give it a try, especially if it's the less visually offensive white-blonde model. Interestingly, I saw a video posted on another thread with Scott Devine and Chris May from Overwater talking about a new P bass they have specced together, and they've gone for a reversed pickup.
2. I dabbled when I was younger, but I could never really get a handle on it.
3. It's certainly some of the best broom playing I've ever heard.
4.
How to confuse people. http://intl.fender.c...ard-surf-green/
Eww. It really doesn't look nice going against the angle on a J body and pickguard.
5. I've struggled a lot to get my BB414 to sound the way I want it to across the strings. With a combination of pickup height, string choice, preamp, and finger placement I can sort of get there, sort of, but not really. I can't help feeling my life would be a whole lot easier with a reversed P pickup. Why aren't they more common? Is it a solution without a problem? Or perhaps a solution for a problem that only effects crappy basses? (or crappy players maybe )

Zoom B3

I picked up a B3 a few years ago. Just discovered that the whole time I've had the effects order the opposite way round from what I thought it was I've often struggled getting my created patches to behave the way I expected them to, assumed it was down to limitations of the device. I did wonder why so many of the built-in patches had reverb at the start of the chain What a muppet.
7. Do you mean a Kaoss Pad? The Kaossilator is more of a touchpad synth, rather than something you run an instrument through. I can't vouch for the full size Kaoss Pad, but I can say that the mini KP version is not really suitable for running a bass through.
8. I was under the impression that a non-linear master knob that produces its maximum volume before it's turned all the way up was pretty normal for bass amps. It doesn't seem that unreasonable to me. Just like I don't expect pressing the accelerator pedal in a car from half way to the floor will provide twice as much acceleration, or that I have to press it all the way to the floor to get the maximum. My practice amp at home runs doesn't produce much additional volume after the half way mark, but it's a cheap 65W thing. I wouldn't expect this from a more expensive amp.
9. Great news! To clarify what I was saying earlier. I wasn't really suggesting there should have been a literal negotiation of exchange rates It was just an analysis of what had taken place. If you agree a price in pounds, but the actual payment is made in Euros, the currency conversion charges must be covered by one or both parties. There needs to be an agreement on how the charges will be met. It was the agreement part that was missing. One party assumed one thing and the other party assumed another. A private sale is a type of contract. There are all sorts of 'standard' terms that are implied, unless both parties agree to the contrary. But, when it comes to the payment part, I think it makes sense to be as clear as possible, rather than relying upon assumptions of standard practice.
10. It is the OP's problem because the agreed amount was in Pounds but he has paid in Euros without agreeing on an exchange rate beforehand. It's also the sellers problem because they agreed a price in pounds, but he agreed to be be paid in Euros, again without explicitly agreeing on an exchange rate. Both parties are at fault here, because a contract has been made without a meeting of minds on the exact terms of the agreement. Compromising and splitting the difference somehow seem like the most sensible way to go.
11. The problem here is the agreed amount was in pounds, but you've paid him with whatever his local currency is, and you guys didn't agree on a conversion rate for that.
12. Depends what you mean by good. Different people want different things from compressors, and what is ideal for one person won't be for others. I too have a BBE OptoStomp, and I also like it. Boss LMB-3 is £64 on Amazon right now. Plenty of people use them and are happy with them (providing they keep the 'Enhance/Noise' knob turned down). Personally, I'd go for a Zoom MS-60B. Yes, its a multi-fx, but the compressor models are decent and very configurable, and there's no rule that says you can't use it like a single pedal if you want to.
13. It's all a pantomime anyway. All of it.
14. This reminds me of the time I was on the bus when some nutter randomly starts talking to me, then gets off at my stop, and follows me back to my parents house. I tried to explain that there was a wake on for my great-uncle, who had sadly departed, but he was having none of it. He marches straight into the front room, plonks himself down on the settee next to my widowed aunt, and sits motionless, staring fixedly at a blank wall. I stammered to my assembled relations that he was the barman from my uncle's local, and it seemed like I might get away with this, but as my mother brought through a cheese board and cutlery for the assembled guests, he whips off my great aunt's false leg and begins flailing away on it like a demon, insisting that my mother 'drum along'. My aunt is, naturally, distraught and bursts into tears. I pass her some tissues, which this guy snatches from her hands and starts scrawling on them intelligibly with the pen from the condolences book. By this point, the place is in uproar and I have to hold my brother back lest he murder the fellow, who has, by this point, returned to sitting motionless and staring at the blank wall. It's pretty clear there's no salvaging this, so I go through to the hallway to call the police. When I return I am informed that the guy has run off, pausing only to steal a vase of daffodils and one of a pair of carved wooden deer that sat on the side table.
15. I've been unsuccessfully trying to get rid of a Mockingbird; my girlfriend remains derisive.
16. It makes you wonder doesn't it?
Ok, what should we call our new bass model? Well, 'Precision' 'Jazz' 'Stingray' those names worked well. Let's call it the 4-250X
17. Bought a DHA VT2 pedal from Chris. Arrived quickly, packaged great, and he was really helpful too.
18.
But does Marcus actually use it? I know there's the video suggesting that he does.... but he's certainly remembered for his Fender bass over a Sire...?
That endorsement seems to be of a less common kind, where it's not so much that he plays the bass himself. The idea that he would happily use the basses professionally is there, but the main selling point is the idea that he was personally involved in the design of the bass; that it's the kind of instrument at a particular price point that he wishes was available when he was starting out. It's more 'Miller approved' than 'as played by Miller'.
19. Not sure if any of the following qualify as large quantities. Just some endorsements that sprung to mind. The Sire Marcus Miller basses surely owe a lot of their popularity to his endorsement? The basses stand upon their own merits I'm sure, buy it was the endorsement that helped bring them to our attention in the first place. Flea's name must have sold a fair few basses in the relatively short period they were available. The Pino signature bass would be just another quality but overpriced P-bass, but with his name on somehow some of the man's integrity seems to rub off on it. (definitely not large quantities, but relative to the price of the bass possibly)
20. They are lovely. Only slight downside is that the very light satin lacquer on the top means it pick up little nicks and dings so easily. Did you go for the cedar or spruce top? Pics?
21. What if he moved the bridge back a few inches? This effectively changes the pickup positions, but at least it would intonate, wouldn't it?
22. Please don't polish those they look *amazing* Personally, I'd be happy to have mismatched hardware on my bass - that way it tells a true story. But if it's annoying to you, you could maybe buy new nickel plated hardware and artificially age it yourself.
23.
can you have a flat radius?
A flat board has a radius that tends to infinity.
24. An quirk of the 2i2, or with mine at least, is that the direct-monitored sound is not identical, tonally, to what gets recorded. Fortunately, the discrepancy is the good way around, and the recorded sound is always a bit fuller and richer sounding. Also, the built-in headphone preamp is a bit weedy, which might be an issue if you have fancy high-impedance cans. Neither of these things have been an issue for me, but I just thought I'd mention. I love my 2i2, although, in hindsight, I wish I'd stumped up the little bit extra for the 2i4.
25.
Are you talking about the Ditto or the Ditto X2 here? I have a X2 and have never noticed this problem.
The Ditto, the one with just one footswitch.
