  1. What's music got to do with bass? GAS, buying and selling, sending cardboard boxes, researching gear, shredding at high speed, slapping ditto. Yes. Music? Can't see where that's come in. I've been at this game 10 year and ent played any musik yet. Ca't see the point.
  2. I wasn't trolling, I was hoping someone would idicate me as to its appeal. I once tried to take up DB only for the teacher to refuse to take my money because I was 'clearly a natural'. I hadn't at that point touched the instrument. I took this as a sign.
  3. I'm lucky in that, try though I might, I can't bear the sound of a DB. So points 1-9 simply reenforce my disinclination to buy one.
  4. We do Teenage Kicks which is a farce because we're between 67 and 78 years old. But we do it because apart from Honky Tonk Women it gets the best welcome from the crowd.
  5. I'm way down the list of advisors. Not only is your daughter not my daughter I don't even have and have never had a daughter. But one thing has struck me about yoof - it loves to be different as long as the different is exactly like everyone else's different. I have a great niece who is totally radical and bleeding edge: so, is woke, vegan, leftwing and in every other way totally like all her friends. Thus, my point is that maybe your daughter would just DIE if she had some cooky bass that was a bit odd thirty years ago. Find out who her favourite band is and research what their bassist plays. Then double check it's reliable, playable and holds resale value. Then buy that for her.
  6. I'd seriously look at Sire, in one of their iterations. About the right price secondhand, hugely flexible sound pallete and very well made. OK they're so good almost everyone has one (uncool), but IMO it's a great starter instrument after the classic P bass clone. I'd avoid Gumtree and Facebook Marketplace unless you know what you're doing - lots of tat with the v occasional gem.
  7. Update: now worked with this for some time. The bridge is very crude, imprecise and long winded to adjust. The range of string height adjustment available is between 2.5 + and 2mm. TBF that is Cort's recommended range for 'basses', but I like my high strings lower than that. I’d be interested in hearing from anyone who successfully replaced this original bridge with something better.
  8. Posted elsewhere but thought I might find advice here too. I have an older A6 with the seperate string anchor and saddle rack. How do you adjust the string height on this model? I can't show you pic because my card reader is bust, but each saddle is like a little grey slot-top dome on a lockable sliding shoe. Do the domes screw up and down to adjust height? I can't see how I can lower most of them before they clout the bridge body but the string height this leaves me with is still way too high for me and I'm not looking for super low.
  9. @binky_bass and other A6 gurus, how do you adjust the string height on the models with seperate string anchors and saddle units, please? I can't show you pic because my card reader is bust, but each saddle is like a little grey slot-top dome on a lockable sliding shoe. Do the domes screw up and down to adjust height? I can't see how I can lower most of them before they clout the bridge body but the string height this leaves me with is way high for me.

As binky_bass says, its at the very bottom of the upmarket boutique six pile.  It's mostly very good quality, although my older one has the two part bridge, which is a mare to adjust. And I'm not a fan of thick glossy finishes. EQ offers a massive range of sounds. Far from being hard to play it's transforming my playing for the better for reasons I don't yet understand. I took it to a practice because my main bass is being fixed but the Cort perfomed so well it's going to be my main axe frokm now on. Glad I bought it, on a whim.  Thanks whim.

  11. Now sorted. With an older Cort A6, arrives tomoz. Thanks everyone for your advices.
  12. So... I just bought an older Cort A6! Bridge looks a bit awkward but we'll see how we go.
  13. Thewy come up on here secondhand fairly often. My preferred Dunlops is 67 for a 4 set!

    LENX

I bought a Cort A6 from Len. i wasnt super sure at first because he had like 1 post to his name. But then I read his Intro post and he seemed all right. Transaction went smoothly and he despatched the bass promptly. I haven't got it yet so if there's owt wrong with it I'll soon holler. But if I don't amend this post assume everything else went swingingly too.
  15. Apparently not. Good wall socket, good amp socket. Somehwere betweenthe otherwise new Amazon kettle lead failed, I guess
  16. Running a P bass clone with ToneRider pups on a KiOgon loom through a LM3 into a BF 210. Started getting bad hum and bad crackle but only when the tone knob is turned up. Turn it down (off) no issue. No obvious earthing issues. Tech couldn't find anything. Eventually replaced everything, including kettle lead which turned out to be problem. Can anyone explain why that might be?
  17. Hi Anyone got a steer on the best all round 6 string bass under say £500 secondhand? I have 3x experience of the Hohner B Bass VI but they come up rarely now and anyway, done that. My only other dig so far was around the Cort A6 and I'm getting vibes early ones weren't as a good as the later ones. Any other suggestions from personal experience? Thanks *NOW SORTED TNX*
  18. Dunlop flats... buying these will instantly give you bass superpowers and guarantee a lottery win. I love em
  19. Should find it's way into the BC quotes page
  20. Sorry, why didn't I read your first post. I am a muppet. Thanks
