1. Price or Trade Value: £750 I’m selling my Fender ‘60s Road Worn Jazz Bass (4 string) – 3 Colour Sunburst. I’ve had this bass from new and it has never been gigged. It comes with original soft case and case candy (see photos). I have had this bass previously professionally set up along with a fret dress (via SGL Guitars). It plays really well and has a great tone. I’m no expert in Jazz basses but you only have search on youTube for these basses to see that they get pretty favourable reviews. Local viewing is welcomed (West Wales), although if this is not possible I can provide as many photos as required. More Photos here: https://www.dropbox....XzpeOgk3Ma?dl=0 These seem to be selling around the £1100 mark new. So this is a bargain! Basschat Feedback: I have previously sold a bass here and bought one. Please check out my feedback: http://basschat.co.u...back-for-maldy/ eBay Feedback: I have also previously sold three basses via ebay (a Warwick Corvette Fretless Standard, a Fender Precision Lyte and a Warwick Corvette Hot Rod ). Purchasers were extremely pleased with the basses, the accuracy of the listing information, delivery and overall service. My eBay profile and feedback is here: http://feedback.ebay...rval=0&items=50 Shipping and Trades: I’m prepared ship and can discuss shipping costs depending on location. I’m not really looking for any trades, but may consider a Sandberg VM4 Hard Core Aged bass. Specs: The bass specs from the Fender Website site: http://intl.fender.c...hell-pickguard/
2. Thanks for all the replies - always reassuring to know people have bought from a shop and it has been a good experience. They really do have some great prices.
3. Just had a reply from them that was very detailed and helpful. Maybe they have just been busy and I've been too eager!
4. Norris, that is an excellent idea! I just didn't think of that! Thank you.
5. Has any one bought from, or dealt with the shop Musik Produktiv? I emailed them on Friday about a potential purchase and not had a reply yet. Thought I may have sent the email to the wrong address so tried their email hot line(!) but still no reply.

Feedback for Harry

Harry, just bought the book, All The Good Stuff: How I Practice by Janek Gwizdala, from me. Great communication, very friendly, no fuss and instant payment. Couldn't ask for a better transaction. I hope you enjoy the book when it arrives. :-)
9. I order, All The Good Stuff: How I Practice by Janek Gwizdala, and when it arrived another one also came in the post. It seems my brother bought me one as a present. So I now have two. One is for sale and is in perfect unused condition. I'm actually selling it on Amazon, but there you will have to pay additional postage and I will have to pay fees. It is for sale here for £15, postage included. Payment by pay pal gift please. http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/150324105X
10.
Brilliant show last night. Setlist here: http://www.princevault.com/index.php/04_June,_2014-2 (and the earlier show, http://www.princevault.com/index.php/04_June,_2014-1).
I would have loved to have seen these. What were the band like? I like the idea of a more stripped back band as a change from his previous bands.
11. One of my favourite Chilli Peppers songs is, Soul To Squeeze. I love the bass part (spent months transcribing it when I first started playing) and I also love some of the subtle guitar parts. I was just reading about it on wikipedia the other day and it mentioned the below, about the composition: http://en.wikipedia....Soul_to_Squeeze "The song's intro is played in A major. The verse then shifts into F major following the progression F, C, Dm, B-flat major7, Dm, F, C, Gm. The solo has a melody similar to that of the vocals of the song. The chorus follows a similar progression of F, C, Dm, B-flat but with a bass-line melody that evokes an Am in the second half of the bar containing C. This allows the vocal melody over the words "know" and "mind" to contain a pentamorous supertonic note. This note over the dominant chord in the guitar is a rare combination, giving the chorus its distinctly mournful sound." What is a pentamorous supertonic note?!?! Can anyone explain this to me - I'm very curious. What I do know is that often when I try to sing this song, I often can't get the right pitch of the notes on the words "know" and "mind". They kind of sound a bit flat - bloomin pentamorous supertonic nodes!!!
12. One of my favourite basses for a great finger style tone.
13. I sold mine in March and there were hardly any for sale - since then I've been noticing a few surfacing. This is a seriously beautiful bass. The craftsmanship is stunning and it is super light. Lots of eq on board and a fatter tone than your usual warwick. This one is going for a cracking price too. Bargain :-)
14. What an interesting thread. I for one have learnt a thing, or two. Glad it all worked out in the end. The bass looks stonking too!
15.
I always like listening to Billy Sheehan talk about his gear, equipment and general philosophy. I don't always agree with everything he says but he has clearly thought about every aspect of his set up and gear. The fact that he is willing to go into such detail as well always make him a good interview. Also, a lot of stuff seemed to be 'rock solid' in that video.
Totally agree with that.
16.
Compliance
This is great and puts to rest some of the misconceptions I had. Thanks for sharing :-)
17.
I disagree! For well over 90% of us anything more than five or six basses is into collector territory. Yes, the odd person here or there has a genuine need for more but even most pro bassists don't "need" a lot of instruments. There's nothing wrong with being a collector (I do it myself!), but I think it's good to be honest with ourselves about these things. Kidding yourself on that you "need" something instead of just being honest with yourself that you "want" it isn't very healthy in my opinion.
I literally don't need all my basses. I'm not even in a band at the moment. Sometimes I tell myself I need them, or might need them one day. But like you said, for me at least, it is that I simply enjoy these basses and the difference they have. I enjoy swapping between them and it kind of gets me excited to practice; thinking I'm going to play a certain bass. It is an indulgence. I literally only need one bass to continue my hobby. However, I don't get out much (kids) and it's what I choose to spend my money on. Also when I hear the cost of proper good double basses, I feel comforted! So maybe I am a collector. Although I feel there should be a better word collector. That sounds to me like someone who doesn't actually use his/her collection.
18.
I never understand this argument at all. Too many for what? If you are playing for the public then to my mind at least you should have a backup instrument so that if something goes wrong, you don't let anyone down. What if some tunes require fretless? Do you also need a backup fretless? Extended range needed? Mmm... 5 string, 6 string... should I have fretless versions of those as well? And so far this ignores the fact that a Jazz sounds/ feels different to a Precision or Ibanez or Alembic or Wal or Musicman etc. etc. In my opinion, owning and using lots of different basses makes you more rounded as a player. You are more able to cope with all of the different idiosyncrasies of tone, feel, action etc. and that can only be good for you as a player. Your only restrictions should be the practical ones - can you afford it, do you have room to store it? The others like can I justify it, do I really need it? etc. are purely imaginary constructs of your own making. Who here would claim that John Entwhistle was more of a "collector" than a player? Not that I'm opinionated or anything... Cheers Ed
I like what you are saying here. And the fact it supports my multiple bass habit, is irrelivent ;-) Good point about being able to play lots of different basses though. All mine are quite different - number of frets, string gauges, set up, controls and tone. A long time ago I used to get flummoxed at jam nights when not playing my own bass. I think I would be more confident these days. Not saying this is highly important, but it is definitely a factor.
19.
I'm having similar thoughts at the moment - do you keep gear that isn't getting played (well, on rotation) or do you move it on so that somebody else gets to put it to use?? I'm not sure when to start with downsizing my collection as I love all my gear for different reasons...I'm sure it must be the same for many other BCers.
Me too! I got down to 4(!) basses and was quite happy with the variety. However, I've just bought another one. I love it, but am already feeling guilty about the cost and whether I actually need it (obviously I don't as I already had 4 perfectly functioning bass!). I also don't really want to get rid of any of the previous ones. I know it is all pointless and I don't why I get caught up in this gear trap, when I see it happening!!!!
20.
I like Scott's Bass Lessons, but I'm not good enough to begin the course. His program of lessons I've got seems to start with how to hold the bass and alternate your fingers, then jumps to stuff that's beyond my ability. I've never found anything much that's in the middle ground. Probably I'm just being thick.
I don't think you are being thick. I think you make a real good point of where do you best go after the beginners course. There is so much information (and misinformation) out on the net it is difficult to decide what you should and shouldn't practice. I posted a comment about this on the SBL academy forum. Scott's team are pretty good at taking feedback and trying to fill in the gaps of what is missing. Maybe they have a next steps course already planned. I'll let you know what they say.
21. I'd definitely recommend the academy. I really think it is great value for money and the amount of content is massive. I can't always keep up with the output of material! He's also in the near future going to release two full courses that will be part of the membership only - technique deep dive and then a complete course linking and explaining scales and arpeggios. And naturally it will be done the usual Scott way where he seems to make everything easier. I'm particularly looking forward to the latter course. Also the forum there is great with loads of people giving help and advice. Some people could spend the cost of membership on a night out. So if you think of it like that, it isn't too expensive!!!'
22.
One day Fender will offer a new service by which they start making basses that are actually made properly. You know, where the neck fits in the neck pocket properly and that kind of thing. I shudder to think what kind of Frankenstein's monster might eventually arrive on your doorstep if you actually ordered one of these creations. Fender seem to have a hard time knocking out consistently-made basses when they are in control. If the customer gets any degree of autonomy then anarchy could easily ensue.
That made me laugh very loud.
23.
I have nothing against Bass Guitar magazine and I'm glad it exists , but it does have to be said, most of the features are pretty devoid of any really interesting content, and overall the whole magazine reads like the text is an inconvenience and an afterthought, really just excuse to hang the advertising on . The interviews and features are too short and usually pretty vapid , and, for the most part, the equipment reviews aren't precise enough or impartial enough to be useful. The problem all these magazines have nowadays is that they no longer have a captive audience that will automatically gravitate towards specialist interest publications and buy them because there is precious little else available that is about their favourite hobby . The internet is choc-a-block with far more interesting bass guitar orientated content than Bass Guitar magazine could ever hope to compete with and it's all free , but compete they must do, just to survive. In that respect, I sympathize with them.
I used to subscribe for years (and to bass guitarists before that). Then I stopped as I just wasn't reading them. Back when I bought them late 90s it really was the best source and one of the only sources of bass information around. As Dingus says they are competing with free online material which is tough. They did get some great players to interview, but I was always left thinking they could have asked more.
