2. If I hadn't already just bought a limelight (number 186) I'd be very interested! Thanks for the offer though. :-)

 5. Awesome bass at a really bargain price!
 6.
33. I need help.
PMSL!
 7.
I quite fancied one myself and considered selling my (little used) 2008 USA Precision to fund it. I've dithered over this but finally decided to keep the Precision. Looking at the used value of my P bass and the selling price of the Flea Jazz it doesn't stack up for me. The US bass has a quality case and all the other nice USA features, rolled fingerboard edges, graphite neck rods, excellent hardware and superb fit and finish. The Flea Jazz seems to vary so much in weight, fit and finish, no case, Mexican built, (I wouldn't care about the MIM thing if they were decently made.) that honestly, I'm put off spending the cash to buy blind online. Which is a pity because the Flea has a specification that really appeals to me. The reputation they seem to be getting on basschat makes them far less appealing though. Frank.
Frank, I think you summed this up for me too. I too have dithered terribly over the last few weeks about getting another one of these basses for all the reasons you say. I think if I could get another one at a cheaper price from new (with security of returning it, if it didn't work out) I would. I think the original price was very appealing for so many reason. I think this latest price hike has just tipped the balance for me not to purchase.
 8.
Partially true. Having worked in Music Retail for a number of years, almost all of the manufacturers have an annual price-hike regardless and Fender are no exception. I very much doubt that the Brexit decision will have had much of an influence on their decision to continue with their incremental price increases but it will obviously affect us additionally because of the Brexit decision. Just for context, one of the reps from one of the big brands we stock told us that the American Guitar Centre stores sell more of their instruments in a year than ALL of the European retailers - Thomann, GuitarGuitar, Gak etc all combined (and as a result, they get first dibs on almost everything). This is also the reason why some companies like Ibanez have models that are available in the US only (like the Buckeye Burl SC Ibanez model. We only get the Poplar Burl option) . It's not because we can't have it but because the brand and it's distributors often think the volume of sales wont be large enough to justify it. Europe isn't that big a deal to these companies. Gibson instruments in Europe only make up about 10% of their global market. I imagine bigger brands like Fender are the same.
I fascinated by this as I have no idea about how the market works with regards to musical instruments, so thanks for sharing. Europe is a huge market, so I'm surprised that big companies like Fender don't do better. Maybe it is the whole import costs, that make European made instruments far more competitive?
 9.
No i agree, prices have risen as usual this year in line with annual rises, but even stores have announced that the prices will rise/have risen post-Brexit due to the issue with the £. Andertons had a post on their website stating it.
I think, for me at least, the price rise is even more noticeable because (the flea bass) was selling for less money for only a short time. Maybe this is due to when this bass became available in the price hike cycle. I haven't been following the $ versus £ exchange rate since brexit, but a few shops I've spoken to have all said that the basses have gone up due to strength of the pound (or lack of it) since brexit. Two shops have said it is costing them more to purchase these basses. I don't know if this is true, but it seems a common reason banded about, rightly, or wrongly.
 10.
That, together with the QC issues littered throughout this thread, should put off most BC'ers I would think! I don't follow Fender much, but the way they have gone about this bass is frankly odd, from every perspective.
I think by the looks of it some people here have got an absolute cracking bass at a very good price. Then there are some of us who didn't! It is a shame because this clearly a very popular bass and Fender could have handled it so much better. They still seem to be selling, so maybe they don't care!!
 11. Well it seems the price of these has 'universally' gone up to £949 - which to me is quite a big jump. I definitely was contemplating getting another, but I don't if I can knowing that the price used to be £70 lower.
 12.
Now the guy that will buy it will benefit from a 0.25 mm relief, a 1.25 mm action and a lemon oiled fingerboard courtesy of me!
Where did you return it too ;-)
 13.
Thanks naxos10, that's useful to know. I have been tempted, as I live in a rural area, and finding and getting to a bass tutor is quite tricky. The consensus seems to be that SBL is pretty good value. I will have a go at the free trial and check it out.
The value for money is amazing. Loads of courses, loads of plays longs, transcriptions to the free YouTube stuff, there is usually a live guest seminar from a top player around once a week (which can be watched anytime if you miss it), a bass hang with Scott, plus feedback from Scott on your videos and loads more. For me, at least, there's more material than I have time!
 14. And when folks like Sandberg are shipping out basses with flawless set up and quality, it seems crazy that Fender can not be more consistent. Clearly they have desirable products, but they just seem to be letting themselves down.
 15.
Not for me. I have always wanted a Roadworn Fender. I have always wanted a shell pink Fender. I have been interested in stacked knob Jazz basses for a while. I had no clue these would hit the market as a sig model with quality pickups etc.
Agree (despite mine going back). Think these basses tick lots of good boxes and this explains why they have been so popular.
 16.
Jesus. Reading the last few pages isn't good. What percentage of BC'ers have had some kind of issue? Broken pickups, flaking paint, threaded screws, pole pieces not lining up, warped plastic, chunks of pick guard missing, chewed truss rod, dead spots, super high action, the list appears endless! Fender QC, people don't exaggerate do they! I wonder if they will release a proper US Custom Shop version at some point?
I sent mine back too. I really wanted to love this bass and there was lots I did love, but overall I struggled with the quality of it. Firstly the set up was very poor the more I think about it. For a bass near a grand that's not good enough. But there was something that felt this was thrown together. However, I was starting to really like it and I really did love the concept of it, when the whole control plate came out when I pulled my lead out! So it went straight back. Bizarrely, I'm contemplating ordering another one. I think it's the flea affect, or the vintage jazz vibe, or most people saying theirs is amazing! :-s
 17. Same on the one I had, with regards to washers bent.
 18.
The screws in my control plate were/are like the poster above less than secure, I was going to pack them with a match stick, I might do that next time it's on the bench. Also what are everyones thoughts on the strings, I don't think they sound as balanced as the Fender flats I'm used to. I have a bit of volume increase on the E, over both pickups so I assume this is a string issue ? It's not an issue.
Both my pickups were not flat to the body. I.e. the pickup was higher under the G string than the E string. To compensate any height difference in the string? Not sure if was intentional in the set up, but the volume seemed fine across the strings.
It was the second time at band rehersal with the bass and first time after a setup tweek, sounded and played really nice last night though the new nitro got a bit sticky in the heat and humidity.
The nitro finish seems/feels different to the nitro finish on the RW Jazz. I get how it might feel a bit stickier in heat. Still a really nice finish though :-)
 19.
could just be bad luck. When you've owned P basses and broken the scratchplate, you do learn to support the plate when you unplug. (this comes from years of the plates being held together with tape because I couldn't be bothered to change it)
Lesson learnt!
